I do find it very interesting that when teams from other conferences alll beat up on one another SEC fan say it’s because the conference sucks. When SEC team beat up on each other, it’s because the conference is so deep.

Probably because the SEC wins most of the national championships and ends up with more draft picks every year than a couple of the other conferences combined. We default to the idea that the top teams in the SEC are national title contenders because we have yet to be proven wrong.

Probably because Georgia, LSU and Alabama win most of the national championships and have more NFL draft picks every year....there, I fixed it for you!

It leads to another observation. When another conference like the ACC has a super dominant team, like Clemson was, SEC fans, denintegrate the rest of the conference as weak. But when the SEC has a super dominant team, SEC fans just promote that as an overall strength of the conference.

I'm actually not saying the conference is great and deep and have not been saying it. I've been saying that, by historical standards, the conference sucks. For decades, there were always three or maybe four top-tier, nationally contending teams in the league every year. Right now, I'm not sure we have one. We have, at most, three teams that are above respectable. The era of the 16-team SEC has converged with the post-Saban era and the league appears to be not in a good place.
