While I wasn’t a fan of the play call, using the analytics helps you understand the importance of getting that info on how many scores you need earlier than later.Trying to get ahead of the analytics and failing means everything next is meaningless. You remove the momentum from the TD. Take the XP, and it's a one score game. Cross the 2pt bridge if/when you get to it. And when you do, don't f*cking call a joke play like a swinging gate.

Do you think that the chances of converting the two point conversion are higher later than earlier?
If no (which would go along with most's thinking), then would you rather find out how many more scores to need to win earlier, or later? If you find out now, it opens up the possibility of kicking a quick FG, since you know that you'll need two more scores. And, you know that you need two scores, so you'd never consider kicking off vs onsides kicks (not really in play here since the score was so late).
If you score on the last play of the game and miss the two pointer, then it's all meaningless. You score now and miss it, and you still keep remote chances alive of winning.
Though an 8 point game is a "one score game", it's much different than a 7 point game. I have no desire to "extend a game", I care about winning a game. It's the same logic that gets basketball coaches in trouble who won't foul up 3 late, because they think it brings losing in regulation into play. I'd rather foul knowing that I have a 10% chance of losing in regulation, than letting them shoot the 3 and a 30% chance of going to OT...but "old school" thinking is that you don't foul since worst case, you get to go to OT.
Momentum is a huge factor and getting to a one score game, at HOME, is critical is keeping it alive. To answer your question, yes, the chances of scoring a two-point conversion on the second touchdown would be better since the momentum would have ramped up and Michigan's defense would have been in full panic mode. While I wasn’t a fan of the play call, using the analytics helps you understand the importance of getting that info on how many scores you need earlier than later.
