It made me think of the song Hotel California which I haven't listened to the words of the song in years. But, read the lyrics and give us your interpretation of the song. I think it could have numerous meanings, interpretations, etc.

On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then she lit up a candle
And she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (any time of year)
You can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted
She got the Mercedes Benz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys
That she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard
Sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember
Some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain
"Please bring me my wine"
He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here
Since 1969"
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said, 'We are all just prisoners here
Of our own device"
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax, " said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave"

Well, at church camp in the early 80s it was clearly about satan worship (which obviously the Eagles were into). But after a few decades, I believe it’s a cautionary tale about cults, where dying is the only way out.

And also about needing new adjectives to describe knives.

That's a very good interpretation. I like that interpretation.

The reference to "Steely Knives" was a nod at Steely Dan, who had the lyric "Turn up the Eagles, the neighbors are listening" in the song Everything you did.
The song is somewhat of a cautionary tale about the hedonistic lifestyle and greed that was prominent in Southern California during the 70's
I have never heard or read rumors about the Eagles being into Satanic worship, and I used to read all the music trade magazines religiously during the 70's thru the 90's

I think the lines about
"And she said, 'We are all just prisoners here
Of our own device"
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast"

could be about any of the demons inside any of us. I don't care if someone is as straight as 6' O'clock people have demons in them regardless if they have never drank excessively or taken any type of illegal or prescription drugs, whatsoever. A demon could be something that is inside you that prevents you from being the person you think you could actually be or it could be an eating issue or anything of the sort.

Not an original guy, but I met Don Fedler at the BMW tourney. Super nice guy. He approached me, and spent 10 minutes or so just shooting the bull while his group finished their hole.

And no, all celebs that play at these things aren’t nice or approachable. In fact, as much as it pains me to say, I saw Sterling Sharpe walk right by a 5-6 yo kid waiting at 18 on him. It was his last hole, and the kid was the only one waiting/wanting a pic or autograph. He just ignored the kid, just walked straight to his car, caddy put the clubs in the trunk, and off he went.

That’s not the first time I’ve heard such things about him

Has anybody ever really looked at the album cover, weren’t they close with Stevie Nicks, I thought she was in to that stuff, but just rumors!

I have never heard or read rumors about the Eagles being into Satanic worship, and I used to read all the music trade magazines religiously during the 70's thru the 90's
In a similar vein, I always thought it referenced the entrapment of the California based music industry which used to be about the music but made the turn to being corporate business and greed driven in the 70's and hence the lyric
"We haven't had that spirit here since 1969".

All attempts to fight this by the musicians at the executive level were met by corporate attorneys and financial threats referenced in the lyrics
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before

Again referencing a desire to return the way it used to be back in the late 60's when it was all about the music.

Just my thoughts, along a similar line of the hedonistic lifestyle theme previously mentioned

I assure you the people who talked at church camp about the Eagles and Satan were not reading trade magazines 😂
The Satanic Panic was a whole thing. Back-masking, etc. How the Eagles got included, I have no idea. In fact at a concert in Greenville about 10 years ago Glen Frey even joked about a time period “that was during our country-western satan worshiping years”. All tongue in cheek, of course.

Goodness. Church camp was a long time ago, and certainly never kept me from playing my Eagles Greatest Hits Vol 2 cassette in the car 😂

It's a picture of the Beverly Hills Hotel, shot at dusk. Not much to really examine.

The character "Russell" in Cameron Crowe's movie "Almost Famous" was inspired by the late Glen Frei of The Eagles.
