I didn't say you want him to fail, and I didn't say he's above criticism. I said you're criticism is unjustified. And no, fans like you don't help. Coaches on the hot seat can't recruit, and having fans like you is by definition being in the hot seat. Exceeding expectation in two of three years, improving the roster and having a 5- win season against a top 10 schedule in an injury laden year 3, even the roster isn't even all his yet doesn't remotely justify talking like it's even reasonable to think he'll fail. I'm saying stop undercutting the coaches until we see what the season looks like, because he's earned the benefit of the doubt going into year 4.

I don't care who agrees with you. Quite a few Mizzou fans told me I was wrong about how good they'd be last year.
For what it's worth, Nick Saban agrees with me. He said we weren't far off last year. And unlike all these taking heads who liked no further than Rattler and XL getting drafted, he watched all of our games, looked at our roster, looked at our class, said we weren't far off last year and sounded a lot like he thinks we'll be decent this year. But maybe you two know more than Nick Saban.
We were very lucky to beat Jax St. At home. Some fans, especially on the Insiders page, feel like super duper fans and we should just listen to them instead of using our own eyeballs. And they come right out and say they don't care about our opinions. But believe strongly that we should care about theirs. We all know people like that.
I think we will be surprisingly (to others) good this year. I posted long ago on this site that I predict no worse than a 7-5 record this season (and I was criticized for that prediction). Why do I think we will be good?
1. It's Beamer's 4th season. Most of the players are HIS recruits
2. A better overall coaching staff on board than in prior years
3. I like Clayton White as DC; the last 2 seasons defensively have been disappointing; but White has a good track record
4.The defense will be good, no matter what; but if Rocket Sanders lives up to his billing at running back,, our defense will stay off the field and be better than I even think
5. With all the injuries on the OL last year, surely we bring back lots of people there with experience (and I do think Beamer has recruited well at OL)
6. Sellers potential at QB is high
7. And this is important: 2 years ago, our Transfer Portal class was ranked 3rd in the nation. We had a 8-5 season record the following year. The Portal class the following year was not good. It was inadequate. We then had the year we had last season. The Portal class that followed was ranked 10th. Thus we have new quality players on board that can play right away.
Joe, what's your prediction for this season?
We have had lots of close calls against inferior teams during Beamer's time. And that admittingly gives me pause. I'd be lying if I said it does not. It should all Gamecock fans. That's why, while I am optimistic for this season, I would add "cautiously" optimistic. Only a fool would that not give pause.

Sellers needs to be our Cam Newton and carry this team on his back. I know we have Sanders but I think we'll go as far as Sellers will take us.
We haven't played a game this season. I already said criticism would be fair AFTER this season if we fall flat, but to this point, it isn't warranted. I'm not making a prediction with this many new faces, I'm just gonna say we're going bowling.
I wonder how much of our games Saban watched last year, considering we weren't even on his schedule.
Now Saban is a talking head, and I still wonder how deeply he's even looked at our team.
He's an analyst for the SEC network now. He said point blank he watched every game every SEC team played to prepare for his coverage of media days. Ate your serious right now?

Stock is actually calling for 7 wins, so he's more "optimistic" than both of us.

I watched Saban on the GameDay show. Every time he gave an opinion he had his arms crossed over his chest. Body language says defensive but he just might not be comfortable yet with his new role.

I predicted a 7-5 record and gave reasons for that which I think is good and positive and certainly better than you think. And I just asked only what you predicted. Then, you go back to a prior post where yes, I was critical? So what? That had NOTHING to do with my prediction for the coming year. You are not easy to get along with guy. Put me on IGNORE because I'm not leaving this site.
Read your first post, the one I was responding to. Ask yourself if it sounded like you were giving him credit or assuming he's undeserving and won't win. It's all in your post. Or do you think calling him a nepotism baby who is in over his head and doesn't deserve the job isn't jumping the gun? Do you think that's flattering? He's not the only one with that opinion. Beamer's coordinator hires are also open to opinion. If you just want "flattering" opinions the Insiders is the place for you.
Look, I don't take back anything I have posted. That does not mean I am not optimistic about the coming season. And I gave reasons why I am optimistic. I believe they are good reasons. If they go 7-5 with this schedule, that will say a lot to me. I want him to succeed. His success in the Portal this year is what makes me optimistic for the coming season. When he has had success in the Portal , we did well the following season. When he didn't, we didn't. I don't care whether or not you believe that. You may find this hard to believe but, we are all on the same team.
You know what, I think I was kinda responding in my gripes with something earlier you said, I thought it was halfway a taunt where you were getting out of the back and forth where you weren't fair about coach by being like "put it on paper, if you're so smart." These arguments never feel like they let up in print without a conclusion to the argument and I should've seen the olive branch.
You're not reading very carefully. I didn't you say I wanted only flattering opinions, I said those opinions aren't supported by his track record here, but only your biases. His track record here has given him the benefit of the doubt going into the show me year.
