We have another temporary commitment

With all the flips and portal movement, I've totally lost interest in recruiting. No one honors their word anymore.
The coaches are the principal ones to blame. . A player commits to a school, and coaches from other schools still pursue to "flip" him.
A recruit is just not going to wake up one morning and think "Hey, You know what, I think I'll head to a school that didn't even initially try to recruit me, and take my talents there. "

The entire system is screwed up. It’s taken the fun away, and if your team is no good (e.g., us), there’s really nothing to look forward to. At 105 schollies, the big boys with money, prestige and history will dominate like they did back in the 1970s. For instance, schools like Texas, Notre Dame, USC-w and UGA can pay 105 players more than we can pay 10. We have no shot. The only silver lining is it will likely hasten the day Tanner is gone.

Do we have a "Phil Knight" among our alumni to bankroll NIL like Knight does for Oregon?
Not many have a Phil Knight with quite the deep pockets and sports interest. However, we did have Darla Moore. But we ran her off so she now gives to our in-state rival. We possibly the hate the dumbest board of any university in America.

He is ours until he either sign or decommits, so stop the drama because of our insecurities in the past. Stop telling players we are expecting them to treat us like a second option if they don't get an offer from the Georgia or Alabama and LSUs please!!!

We don't have to tell them. It has been demonstrated on a number of occasions that we are the bait for the bait and switch.

Not if the NCAA gets the rules they want for giving a little. The direct payment and 105 limit is attached to a batch of rule changes that include 3rd party arbitrators examining NIL deals, to make sure they're not just pay for play. They couldve avoided all the crap happening now if they were pro active about it 10 years ago, now they'll still have some obstacles to getting control again, but the 105 limit and direct compensation is part of them maneuvering to reform instead of getting sidelined and leaving the sport to the wild west rules happening now.

Correct.....but I recall 50% of the people on here being all about the NIL and transfer portal. I did not and still fully understand that there was no way it was a good thing for CFB, and definitely not us given our stature within that game. I wish rapid, radical change would be brought about ..... and for those thinking they're too good for it they could take 1-2 years off college play. The College game might suffer for a couple years, but it would make sure of it's survival.
If we continue in this trajectory.... in five-six years we will be going back to watch random games from 2003 just to remember, feel and get excited about that old sport called football.... because it ain't that now, and soon it will not resemble it at all.

A "commitment" is no more than a player ploy to stimulate higher bidding from other schools. That's what we've come to.

That's why I like Dabo's approach and philosophy. If you're committed to us, you don't take other visits. In return, we're not going to recruit other players for your spot. It's mutual commitment. His philosophy is simple: if you want to be recruited, don't commit. Enjoy the recruiting process, make the most of it, take all your visits, but if you commit to Clemson, the recruiting period is over.

It's a fair approach and basic, common sense. It teaches players to be men and honor their word.

It would be nice if every team did the same, but I would worry if I was the only team operating like that.

The clemson model was enviable for a long time. I'm not convinced it will stand the test of time in thr NIL era. But I don't know for sure.

Along with the proposal to increase the number of scholarships a school can give out, the intent is to divide college sports between the "haves" and "have nots". One guess which group we will fall in. That's fine. In 10-15 years, it won't matter to me. But it will be unfortunate for Gamecock fans who have to endure that. I remember South Carolina football in the 1960s, as I am sure you do. The best words to describe our football program back then are "minor league".

I'm really more about discussing stuff as a pastime in my seniority. I really don't care about the games themselves anymore.

Just along for the ride and some conversation, eh?
We used to get the same thing at the barber shop, back when we had hair!

Just along for the ride and some conversation, eh?
We used to get the same thing at the barber shop, back when we had hair!
That reminds me of my Mom telling me to tell the barber to give me a hair cut like Perry Como. She evidently was a fan of the crooner back in the day. I was just a young, little kid about 8, but I resisted. I kept telling her that I would be laughed at if I told the barber that. But, she kept bugging me about it. I got tired of hearing her. She eventually wore me down. So I gave up. I went to the barber shop. The barber's nickname was "Shorty". I said, "Mr. Shorty, today I want you to give me a "Perry Como" haircut.". He said, "What?" I repeated a "Perry Como haircut". One of the teenagers waiting to be called up to the barber chair yelled, "Hey Shorty, when I get up there, I want you to give me a "Cary Grant haircut", Everybody in that barber shop laughed. The barber turned the chair around and said "I will just give you the haircut you have always had." I said, "That's fine".

I was angry and told my Mom how much that embarrassed me, She got a good laugh over that. Periodically, over the years, all the way towards near the time she passed away, I would, in good humor, remind her how that embarrassed me. She always laughed about it, as did I over the years.

I have a fear that interest in the great game of CFB is rapidly heading down the tubes and it is surprising how quickly the decline has progressed.
The hotbeds will continue to be hotbeds, but only by robbing heat from the warm beds. Interest will flag where people can't possibly compete but at one time entertained aspirations. There won't be any concern among the powerbrokers until and unless the TV numbers get funny.
