It was understood that Lowe was gonna be a two-year guy. Which meant Lewis likely wouldn’t be the starter until his Junior year. While I do think it was a ***** move by Lewis to run from the competition, I also think the situation could have been avoided by signing a one-year portal player. And Pope tried… he just struck out on all of them. Lewis is tearing it up right now for Villanova, really wish we could have kept him and paid Caleb Wilson more.
Not hanging onto Lewis, losing Wilson to UNC and Wilkerson to IU when we basically had both were huge hits. Totally changed the potential of this team.

Good turn around this season…I’ll give Pope props

But come on with the rest of this stuff.
- Wny did ament and Gillespie get to play HORSE for a half. Did we really need an adjustment at half…ee played the same damn team theee weeks ago…Tennessee has two options to score …so shade then and make the rest make plays

- This team will have ten losses by ncaa play. Is that the standard…and you can’t blame injuries….they went in a run after all the dudes got hurt

- Why are we sitting here with zero recruits for next year? Whose going to replace Oweh Aberdeen?

Wwll see how the season ends…but this ain’t the standard
Can’t blame injuries?! Lmao what?! We have 3/6 OUT! One of which is our PG, best shooter and best big man. Idc when they started their run. You can’t just say injuries don’t matter. That’s insane.

Pope has to fix recruiting.

Pope has to STOP the Jekyll and Hyde stuff with the 25-30 point beatdowns we are receiving.
Do you want Pope to recruit the same type of players that Cal had.........and flamed out with almost every damn year. I am good with the players that Pope is recruiting. Top five recruiting classes hadn't been getting any results for KY.

Pretty sure cal also went to 4 final fours n 5 seasons. Something no other UK coach has done. He also won 38 games twice...but also won 9 games. Guy was an enigma at times but let's not pretend when Cal was getting his guys he didn't do well overall.

If anything when he pivoted to embracing the transfer portal more 2nd half of tenure is when he had the least success.

Need to close the dea on players. Not all but key ones. Pay them. Wilkerson reportedly verbaled. Went to IU. Had Wilson locked up if we had only paid more, UNC. Needed to retain Lewis. Yes I know he bolted to Villinova because of Lowe but do what it takes within reason.

He was playing a lot better when he got hurt. I don’t think I’m rewriting anything because he could 100 percent be a solid player for us right now if he was healthy.
I’m on record saying I hope Pope succeeds but also questioning if he can. Having said that, in my response, I said the team will miss him but he certainly wasn’t a stater or intricate part of the starting line up the majority of the season. That just makes it sound like homers using crutches to justify multiple spankings this year and shielding Pope. It sucks we lost Kam and it will definitely affect the team but to say out 3 starters seems like pretty weak excuse.
Wasn’t directed at you personally there’s a lot saying we lost 3 starters and that is part of the reason the years been rocky. No we didn’t lose “3 starters”. But we did lose 3 good players. What’s even more funny is if you go back just 3-4 years ago the biggest debate on RR was it didn’t matter who starts. Now suddenly evenone is using losing starters as a sole reason the seasons been rocky.

I know what you mean im not taking it personal or anything. I don’t mean to sound like I’m making excuses I just wish we could have better luck than we have with injuries.

So is Lowe Kam and Quantenance are starters…whose minutes do you reduce?

Want to sit Moreno?
Pulling Aberdeen for lowe chucking it no. Stop?

Kam us the man loss of the bunch../.we csn enjoy the win and I’m all for it. But to the other extreme../OP arguing it’s non debatable Pope is the guy….hes just not
Saying he is not the guy after a year and 2/3s is simply wrong. i've had my doubts too, which is normal with some of the results but because of some of the bad results, a lot of what is accomplished has been pushed aside, minimized or overlooked. Is sweet 16 with zero returning players and 10 wins over top 25 teams is a humongous accomplishment.

I love Pope and hope he can turn around the recruiting and slow starts but with that said I see no way with the schedule we have left that we win the SEC. Best case to me would be a 3rd or 4th place finish.

He just needs to recruit a little better / not overpay role players. And for God’s sake have 2 capable PG’s on the roster.

If he can do that and we can catch a break with injuries, he’s capable of taking us to an FF. Title? I don’t know. But the man can coach.

He needs a legit gm. That should be non negotiable this off season.

Yes. Using semantics to try to win the argument. Not starters? OK fine. But like you said 3 of our top 6 out.
This! Let’s go around the country and pluck 3 key rotational players off ANY top 50 team and let’s see how well they would do. Even a team like Arizona, being very deep. Take their PG, best shooter and their most talented big man and see where they finish. Bet they have a worse record than we do.

they have looked so bad this year he'll have to make a final four before im onboard. I don't trust they he can build a dominant top 5 team. this is what we should have every year.
No program has a dominant top 5 team every year lol. With standards like that, I expect you to be miserable year-in and year-out. I wish the “Kentucky standards” folks would at least study some history first before forming these unreasonable expectations. Average Kentucky season is a Sweet 16 and a 3 seed. You’ve been lied to if you think anyone is top 5 every year. Won’t happen, ain’t happening.

Can’t blame injuries? lol wow man. Three starters down and two of them haven’t been 100 percent at all the entire season.

Theirs still good high school recruits left and he can replace Oweh and Aberdeen out of where he got them in the first place, the portal. What’s up with the negativity?
Amen

Just like we had no chance of beating Tennessee? Yet we did it twice! I understand that, on paper, it looks like a near impossible feat for the Cats to win the SEC, but they keep reminding us that you can't give up on them. So, you never say never.

I never said Kentucky couldnt beat Tennessee. I do say though that they will not beat Florida at Florida. Hope I am wrong.

Sorry but he’s going to have to do more than what he’s done and actually prove he has what it takes to be the guy here before I buy in.

Against my better judgment I reluctantly bought in after last year even though there were some glaring red flags. The way the first half of the year went has made it where im not buying in on Pope until he makes a final four at the very least.

I refuse to lower my standards like so many here clearly have. Double digit loss seasons with a S16 exit followed up by 18-7 (so far) doesn’t cut it here. If that works for you then maybe you need a refresher on UK’s history. I’m not settling for anything other than the best and nobody else here should either. I like Pope personally and he gets this place, so I’d rather win with him than someone else but he’s gotta get it done.

Every coach that has ever coached at UK except for Pitino has had multiple double digit loss seasons and Pitino had 1. Every coach has had years where they didn't make it past the sweet 16. By YOUR ridiculous and impossible standards, not only would no coach in our history make the cut for you, there's not an active coach for any other team that would either. You are delusional.

We are 🤏🏼 this close to that and going on a 5-7 yr run that will rival Rupp in the 40s and 50s, Pitino in the 90s and Cal in the 2010s. I mean we are right there. We got our guy and 3 weeks ago people was ready to run him out of town.
That might be a tad bit of an overreaction. The last week and a half has been encouraging, for sure. I'm just living moment to moment with this team.

I am and have been on board with Pope. Nothing wouid be better for the program than for him to have huge success here. But he has to start landing at least a couple stud freshman every year. And the games like Vandy have to end. The effort in that game and a couple others bordered on making me wonder if guys were intentionally tanking games.
This is a completely sensible take, IMHO. Agreed on all fronts. Land some real dudes and quit getting punked a handful of games. One would probably help the other, if we're being completely honest.

I would LOVE to see him recruit an Acuff or two every single season. Mix them with returners and portal vets. Honestly, I think Pope, with Cals rosters could've gotten better results. And I'm no Pope lover for sure. His biggest current issue is recruiting elite level talent.

Lmao yall are some contrarians. I’ll give yall that. We have 3 of our top 6 or 7 out. Simple as that.
Beginning of the season for the projected time, 2 of the top 7. Once play started, Kam had played/practiced his way out of that. Once injured he'd played his way back into it. The 3 starters thing is just disingenuous. But yeah, it's safe to say we are down 3 dudes they had hoped would be in the top 8-10. If anything, I really truly think the injuries have made things easier on the staff. It forces roles to be defined. Pope was trying to play way too many players. His "max efficiency" stuff on subbing is silly. Your top 7 should all be getting 20-30 mins. 8 and 9 should get 10ish dependant on matchups and foul trouble. That's it. Trying to fit 12 guys into a rotation is just bonkers.

Kam wasn't the best shooter. JQ never was "the most talented big". He played like 70 mins all season. Basically played about 20 quality mins vs StJ on the season. You can't take away what you never really had.

Sorry... I wasn't referring to you in particular. I do realize that the chance of us beating Florida twice is slim, but this team has just proved that you can't count them out.
