I don’t hate anyone. And certainly not Franklin. But results are results. He will have yet another (undeserved - 11 years…who else gets this long to figure things out and perform on their job?) chance at this point to get a decent win.

Another poster talked about O$U reeling off 5 straight Top-5 wins. Now that’s results!

O$U has better material than us. But not that much better.
One of the three or four winningest coaches in the country in the last four years and you think he’s still trying to figure it out. Man, your entitlement is off the charts.

POSITIVES
- DDS (dominant)
- Amare Campbell (leading tackler, plays under control)
- Transfer WRs (Hudson & Pena were effective. Need to get Ross involved)
- Special Teams (FGs. 4 for 4; excellent PR by King Mack)
- Allar was efficient
- QB #2 Grunkemeyer played well and looked poised
- Zane Durant disruptive and had INT
- Alonzo Ford, Jr looked good teamed with Zane even with limited reps
- Xavier Gilliam, Ty Blanding, and Enai White did well w/their reps at DT

NEGATIVES
- Allar running (scrambling too much against inferior opponent)
- Starting OL allowed too much pressure on Allar
- Starting OL weren't sustaining blocks in run game (still work in progress)
- Desperately need Zuriah Fisher back @ other DE position
- Young DEs were often pinched inside allowing Purdy (QB) to scramble. They'll learn
- Rojas & Deluca slow start. Rojas did better as game progressed
- Still no clarity on LBers beyond the primary three

Your thoughts?
Good post. I thought Keon Wyle 32 played well in his reps at LB.

Name the coaches you think will have more top 5 wins this year than Franklin.

Top 5 during the regular season will usually finish the regular season about 55-5. The field goes 5-55 vs the top 5. It is usually the top 1-2 who have the wins over 3-5.

Ps. Tell us the coaches you wanted to replace Franklin. Make sure they have a winning record vs the top 5. Rhule and schino have zero wins vs the top 20 for their careers.

First of all, the idiots who post this stuff never define what losing to a top 5 team is - nobody knows how good a team is until the end of the season. For instance, counting duhO$U's win against Texas is stupid - Texas does not look like a Top 5 team. Last year Vanderbilt beat #1 Ranked Alabama in week 6 of the season - did Vanderbilt really beat the best team in the Country last year? No, they didn't - Alabama didn't even make the postseason Playoffs!

Fans love both Rhule and Schiano, and they are both mediocre. They would be no better than 7 or 8 win per season coaches at PSU at best.

I just read this:

James Franklin (2-20, .091)
And here he is, the reason we’re here today. Franklin did come into Happy Valley already carrying an 0-5 record, but since arriving, he’s lost 15 of 17 opportunities against top ten teams. He’s won one game in eleven chances vs top five teams: 2016 against Ohio State. Nine of his losses (and seven of his top-five losses) have come on the road, with just six opportunities coming at home. He’s 1-1 in neutral site games, winning the 2016 Big Ten Championship Game over Wisconsin before losing to USC in the Rose Bowl. He’s in his ninth year, and faces a top-ten foe every five games on average. Credit to him, that is a lot, but it’s also a lot of opportunities.

Our Alumni chapter watched the game at Carolina Ale House in Augusta Ga....we had 42 members present and if you are in Augusta on a game day stop in at the Ale house and have some fun. I was pleased with most things as I agree this game was coached more as a scrimmage since there is no practice to simulate game conditions.....and the reps for 2s and 3s are very valuable.

Biggest positive- Allar & WRs were solid
Biggest Negative - No Fisher. I’ve got big concerns about our lack of depth across the entire d line.

Not cool.

Do you expect anything else from that fool? He's just angry the Amazon driver is 'round back with his mother-wife again and he's drinking and taking it out on Franklin and the board ... for the thousandth time.

Tomorrow, when the mother-wife assures him it'll never happen again (at least until the next time), he'll be cooled down and yapping about how he's happy with 10-2 now ... and then we'll have to listen to endless imaginary cars and imaginary trips that no one cares about.

You definitely don't want to pound the rock and increase the % of getting people dinged. Also, Nevada "held the ball" snapping to shorten the game. Smart. However, I think it forced PSU to go up tempo more than they may have planned....in an effort to run as many offensive plays as possible.
The reality is, that PSU had no chance of beating Ohio State yesterday 😢. LOL
So instead, throw the ball more…slowing down game, creating more plays and then expose your most critical player (QB) to a half dozen hard shots when WRs could not get open and best Oline in CFB could not sustain their blocks? Yeah - that makes sense!

Sorry if that wasn't clear. The out routes, the deep comeback route, etc. were designed NFL throws which had separation.
I've been to many games in person--the experience is better at home. You can also break things down with video.
I don't expect a ton of deep balls this year. That's not the strength of the receivers. They are better route runners though that bar was low
Singleton had, I believe, 8 carries--doesn't really mean much. He was effective as a receiver.
Better at home? Perhaps PSU’s coaching staff should stay home since it is better for breaking things down lol!

This makes 59 years since I attended my 1st Penn State game. I've always been able to enjoy my role as a fan/spectator. Life has taught me ( as well as simple common sense) that if you don’t enjoy something....stop doing it.
Could not agree more. But you can enjoy games without being a look aid drinking fan boy.

If your constant irrational attacks on Franklin are not evidence of you hating him ... what's it like when you DO hate someone?

Boiled bunnies? Horseheads in the bed? Death threats for the entire family? And all that just before noon on a Monday?
Lighten up Francis. Hatred is a powerful world. I just call it like I see it…and with one decent win in 11 years it does not make me a soothsayer.

Ryan Day had as many in ~11 days.

A couple things. I'm not sure we ever saw what the starting OL will look like. There were so many subs and 2nd and 3rd stringers and TRUE Freshman playing that it was hard to keep track of. I think we'll see the same thing next week as well. The starting OL will start to come together for Oregon. MO is they used this as a better live practice.
I also think Nevada reversed last years tendency on defense and played with a really, really deep safety taking away the deep stuff so Drew and the WR's and O adjusted. Something I was very happy to see.
We’ll know for sure after our game im Columbus.

Ah, so you hate him, but don’t want to admit you hate him, because you’ve attached some magic power to that word.

Got it.

It’s been so much fun watching Franklin & Co. be successful over these years. Semis last year. #2, maybe #1, this year. It’s good to be a PSU fan.

Glad he’s going to be around for many more years to make you hate him even more.

You didn't see anything different? Last year we had zero games where a WR had 6 receptions. Both Hudson and Pena had 6+ yesterday. WR play and the passing game was obviously improved.
They looked ok…but showed nothing that will cause O$U not loosen up the front 7. N sign of a vertical threat.

On the plus side, Texas ran the ball fairly well. Perhaps we can load up a lot of runs with Allen. But O$U knows Allar well by now and they have shown him little/no respect - nor has he earned it. So they will stick extra guys in the box. No Warren security blanket this year.

Like many here, I expect a low scoring game. Our Special Teams looked good. Maybe we can spring a play there?

Suspect it will be ~ 21-10 O$U.

1 decent and zero decent road wins in 11 years. Yes, he is still figuring it out. And it appears that will never happen. But he will get yet another chance this year. Wins over Nevada and Villanova and whatever other cupcakes impress no one but fan boys.

Entitlement? I am entitled to nothing and expect nothing.

Because I am honest has nothing do with enjoyment.
The receivers are better. Whether that translates to getting open vs Oregon and Ohio State we will see. Also, we still know nothing on whether Allar finally has some big game moxie. Franklin's pathetic big game record and if he can get the monkey off his back rests on the right arm of Allar and inside Allar's head.

Someone who can win a big game? A road game? You figure it out. There are many, many who deserve a chance. With PSU’s resources and fanbase, I bet we don’t need to wait a decade. And a decent road win? Right now the number is zero. How many chances do you get at your job? 11 years?

Again, I don’t hate. And certainly not Franklin who seems like a decent dude. And not for a coaching performance.

I enjoy following the team. But the results? Losing again and again and again of any significant game gets old.

You must be a newbie. I have attended multiple PSU games where we won against #1 in Country - ON THE ROAD. Now that was a great time to be a PSU fan.

I’d like to see us get back to that level again. Does not seem possible with Franklin. And 11 years of results back that firmly. But hate a human being for that? Grow up.
