When Muschamp was hired, Martin made a comment along the lines that Champ was a screamer like Martin. No big surprise to me that they are now both gone. I did not care at all for either from both a production and personality standpoint.

Martin made Muschamp look like a choir boy. Most of Muschamp's anger was taken out on the refs. Martin's anger was directed to his players.

Eh. We loved Martin during the Final Four run. I don’t believe anybody that says otherwise. Every coach’s personality sucks when you lose. If he was a nice guy, we’d be upset he wasn’t lighting the players a$$es up when they weren’t performing.

There were plenty on this site that didn't like him from day 1. I soured on him just before the NCAA run when I had a personal run in with him. Ever since, I have viewed him as a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Meh. Every coach has their distinct coaching style. Some scream, some don't. The only thing that really matters is wins and loses.

Yep. Yelling is fine when you're winning.

I've got a friend who coached high school basketball and he had the opportunity a few years ago to watch a practice at Duke. He knew of Coach K's reputation and thought he was prepared for it but said Coach K's language still left their eyes watering. He absolutely blistered his players in practice. But they were ok with it because they knew come gameday they'd be prepared and most likely would win.

If at any point fans and the media are focusing on a coach's personality, then it means things are not going well on the court/field.

Except when he screamed at Thornwell vs. Gonzaga. Pretty ridiculous.

I never loved him. Frankly (no pun), I was surprised over his FF run. It turns out, he had some great players gel and get hot at just the right moment. But, his offensive strategy always sucked and was boring to watch. It's why he couldn't recruit. Don't forget, we were a fallback for Sin. You can thank Williams at UNC for advising/encouraging him to come to SC . Martin's over emphasis on D, and his idiotic, hard-core practices on game day, left many players rubber-legged, which explains the poor shooting. There were several reasons I didn't care for Martin. His demeanor is just one of them.

Uh, not exactly. If those wins and losses come with severe interpersonal behavioural issues, e.g., sexual harassment, it can (and should) do a coach in. Other than that, I agree with you. FM was done in because of his overall record.

If you are a nice guy who wants to coach and teach, and wins/losses are secondary, that's fine. Unfortunately for you, a P5 D1 program is not the place for you. A DIII or NAIA school might be an excellent fit.

I did not like the hire. I don't know much of him other than "court Frank." There is virtually nothing about court Frank I like.

For me, I don't want to know coaches, buddy around with them, worship them or get my joy from playing a round of golf with them. There are many who are all about that.

They have a job to do with players in school and in the arena. That's what I care about.

Screams aside.....
On paper, FM was a reasonable hire while Muschamp was a horrible hire.

Early on, Frank was borderline abusive. Muschamp might have sucked as a coach, but don't think he was ever abusive.

Let’s not start the Martin bashing. Overall, he cares about people and he gave us a hell of a memory with that final 4. He left us better than what he took over. WM can’t say the same.

Why don’t we try the thank you for your service approach. Frank will always be welcome and is one of us. It was just time for a change and he probably agrees. I wish him the best.

If he only took us to the Dance one time, and if many of his players and recruits bolt, did he really leave us in better shape?

He still got us to the Final Four. No matter what it took, no other coach has even sniffed that here. We’ve been a lot of guys fallback plan. We aren’t Duke, UNC, or Kentucky. Not to mention, turns out Nike was paying a **** ton of $$ to the players families…so there’s that too.

Frank can coach. It didn’t work out here in the long run. But had we won more, his “personality” wouldn’t have been an issue. It wouldn’t have been.

The comparison Tngamecock is making is how Horn left the roster vs how Frank did.
I’m not defending Horn, but I guess that’s yet to be seen. I’m thinking the Miami kid is gone as is any player with professional aspirations next year. There’s 3 of them, right? What does that leave us?

Our kids and wives crossed paths. Not my choice to interact with him. I am far from a coach or player worshiper.
