Beamer is on his way to being better than Spurrier.

If my recollection is correct, Spurrier didn’t win 8 regular season games by his 4th year at USC, AND Beamer is set to win 8 this weekend. Maybe 9 regular season games after Clemson. Beamer is also the first coach—and that includes Spurrier—to beat three ranked teams in a row.

So, if you think anything of Spurrier (and don’t have an Orange Crush on him), you’ll agree Beamer has potential to be the best ever at USC.

Spurrier had a rather steep increase in wins after season what 4 or 5? Are we anticipating the same?

I just cringe when we start saying things like he's "better than spurrier".

Maybe, his start here was comparable to spurrier's start here, which happens to be the worst stretch of spurriers college career? I'm still holding my breath for the three straight 11 win years before I start an earnest comparison.

Spurrier didn’t reach 9 wins until his 6th year at USC. You‘re right about Spurrier underperforming at Carolina until his 7th year. For all his “experience” and success at Florida, it still took him longer than Beamer to show progress.

Besides, he’s sitting in his Gator office now while USC finally has a coach who is a true Gamecock.

Agree...everything is different. It is technically easier sledding to get a program up and running quicker these days. I think they can also fall off just as quickly. SOS walked into a bad situation...I love Lou Holtz but his last 2 years I believe he was going through the motions and somewhat bitter that Skip wasn't being seriously courted to take over ...and he left the cupboard bare. That last recruiting class signee list had 3-4 on there that were outright "F you" to the University.

How is Shane Beamer more of a "true Gamecock" than Steve Spurrier? Neither man attended the University of South Carolina. Neither man has a degree from the University of South Carolina. Both men coached at numerous other schools.

What makes someone a "true Gamecock"?

Our AD was compelled to stick his neck out a mile when all other viable, notable options were exhausted. He went after Kirby Smart. How much of a Gamecock is he?

The fallacy right now is that people act is though we have attained some sort of permanence. We're one year removed from staying our @$$e$ home during bowl season. We have a lot of people playing key roles who won't be back next year. People overcome by euphoria need to get a grip.

Lol I forgot Shane was born in Charleston. Anyway, my point remains...how is Shane Beamer a "true Gamecock" if Steve Spurrier wasn't?

Probably because he's the current coach. That status will change the day he leaves this job, and can only really be permanent if he retires from here.
