He really doesnt pay full attention to college basketball. To him its only about the few teams that are "name" teams and highly ranked teams. So he names Kelvin Samson national coach of the year! Really??? They were expected to be good this year. They did nothing out of their expectations. So Lamont Paris and the guy from South Florida are who EVERYONE else believes did the best job and are 1-2 for Coach of the Year but he goes with Kelvin Samson. Way to go Dickie V, way to go!!! You really studied things for that award.

He was fun in the 90s when I was a teenager. I haven't really found him all that insightful. He's a personality.
I don't think folks hang on Dickie V's words about basketball any more now than they hang on Lee Corso's words about football. But we listen to them and watch them because we like nostalgia and tradition.
Personally I’d go with the coach at Iowa st over him for Big 12 COY.Sampson as National coach of the year doesn’t make sense to me.
His schtick is old, but I thought Sampson would be the frontrunner - mostly because I thought he'd be the media's frontrunner (which he is for at least one of the media). The media plays more to big names, #1 teams, national-title contenders, etc. (just like when voting for the Heisman).
