I just saw a commercial for this one coming up on Hallmark Channel.

Which romantic Christmas movie on Hallmark or the like is your favorite to curl up to with a latte and scones? 😀

I am a huge Jill Wagner fan. I also, weirdly, really like Hallmark Xmas movies. My wife goes to bed ~ 9:30 so I will watch sports (this week is MACaction/MAC football) and switch to Hallmark during commercials. The plots are so light you don't have to invest in the whole movie. And there is something uplifting and energizing about them.

Regardless, I like a movie named Christmas Cookies starring the beautiful and talented Jill Wagner.

Hallmark movies have good-looking leads, the female leads usually being fairly well-endowed, high production values (other than hit-or-miss writing), and a happy ending. The wife watches them and I look up from my math every now and again. You don’t feel guilty about watching Hallmark the way you do watching, for example, “Mike and Molly.” (I swore only last week to never again watch M&M. I got my dignity to consider.)

The Hallmark channel has been pushing Christmas movies since October 20th, with total disregard of 'Gratitude and Thankfulness' found in the get-together, the day and the Thanksgiving meal with family and friends. I may be in the minority, but that company makes too much off of cable channels and additional subscribers just to sell Christmas cards.

In watching these movies, I have found only two that do not have too many producer mistakes that could be rated above average - and my wife loves this channel. May I humbly suggest a total boycott next year until after Thanksgiving, there is too much hype and too many commercials from this greedy company !

Good luck with that. My wife without her beloved Hallmark Christmas movies before Thanksgiving? There’s not enough alcohol in the world to get me through that.

Just got back from a 4 night, 24 man golf trip to Pine Needles , NC. Delved into this plus 15 cases a beer , 4 fifths of Casa Amigos and a few more handles of Tito’s . A little left over to make it through Thanksgiving.

'We are just blasting your *** with these!'....LOL.

you could build a hallmark movie based on grabbing plots from three categories

Woman
  • Marketing Exec from the Big City
  • Lawyer from the Big City
  • Writing a Novel or Large Spead for a Magazine
Man
  • Single Father of young son (wife died) who owns a small Xmas related business
  • Single Father of young daughter(wife died) who's father owns an Xmas related small business
  • Prince (either knowingly or under cover)

Setup
  • woman goes back to the small city and doesn't realize how much she misses it and family
  • woman goes to man to watch his kids and they fall in love
  • woman goes back to rape the city but falls in love with it and the single father

Location
  • Idaho
  • Montana
  • Wyoming
  • Colorado
  • Canadian Rockies

A ****-ton of plots involve bakeries.

I, too, am a HUGE Jill Wagner fan. I used to watch Wipeout with my boys when they were little. They loved it when people wiped out. I watched it mostly for Jill.

In fact, I think I’m now going to substitute Jill Wagner for Halle Berry as my “Hall Pass.” Something about her just does it for me.

EDIT: Not sure how I wasn’t flagged on this. Maybe because somebody already posted a video clip with her in it? Anyway, here’s one for a nice, chilly November morning:

From Dickens a Christmas Carol (All versions):

The Ghost of Christmas Past Scene.

Setting:

Ebenezer Scrooge worked at the warehouse for Mr. Fezziwig. He fell in love with a young lady named Belle and proposed marriage, but his love for Belle was overtaken by his love for money. Repulsed by his greed, Belle left him eventually marrying another man. The present-day Scrooge realizes his mistake of blowing it with Belle.

George C Scott was the best Scrooge.

There are essentially 2 recipes of Hallmark Christmas movie:

1. Mom and pop business in quaint, super Christmas-y town is bought by big city corporation. Hard nosed business man/woman from the corporation comes to run the business the "corporate way". Said hard nosed executive falls for the son/daughter of the mom and pop, sees the error of his/her ways, and runs the business the mom and pop way.

2. Grinchy big city author/designer/stockbroker comes back to the quaint, super Christmas-y town where he/she grew up. Falls back in love with HS sweetheart, sees the error of his/her ways, quits job to be Christmas tree farmer/horse drawn sleigh driver/Christmas village carpenter.

I, too, am a lover of Hallmark movies. The female lead is always "the girl next door" and they always have a happy ending. My favorite Hallmark actress is Ashley Williams.

Agreed. My favorite series for many years was "The Good Witch." The mystical/fantasy part kept my interest, but the fact that I felt better after watching it, elevated my overall mood.

Not Hallmark related, but I’m a sucker for ’Scrooged’ with Karen Allen & Bill Murray along with fantastic support from Carol Kane, David Johansen, Bob Goldthwait, & Robert Mitchum.

My favorite Hallmark Christmas trope is the character, who is not an arborist, that exhibits an unhealthy amount of knowledge about evergreens while picking out a Christmas tree.

Some of the Hallmark movies are shot on locations outside of their British Columbia bubble which makes for some fun eye candy for an architecture nerd like myself. ‘Christmas in Vienna’ had some great shots on location, and since Vienna is on my bucket list, I‘m hoping I can dvr it this year.

George C Scott was the best Scrooge.
He was good but my fav is Alistair Sim, followed by
Reginald Owen and finally my childhood fav, Mr Magoo! The first Christmas cartoon special produced for TV. It aired December 18, 1962.
It predated Rudolph by 2 years.

Growing up in NEPA, we also got to see this Bell Telephone special every year with the Beaton Marionettes.

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday, I want the thank BobPSU92 for starting this thread.

The true power of the McAndrew Board is on full display. We are recovering from a miserable Saturday hosting the Wolverines, licking our wounds and optimism does not exist in many of our hearts. Bob has managed to restore some balance and even Fairgambit has chimed in with another "favorite".

Again, thanks Bob!

In the “true” nature of some on the board, just to rep them appropriately!
