One of LSU’s biggest needs in the 2023 recruiting cycle was tight end.

And after some big news came in on Wednesday, it’s evident the Tigers addressed the depth concerns at the position.

On Wednesday, Vanderbilt tight end commitment Ka’Morreun Pimpton flipped his verbal pledge from the Commodores to the Tigers. Pimpton then signed with LSU, officially joining the program’s 2023 recruiting class.

It’s a massive win for Brian Kelly and the Tigers in the Lone Star State. Pimpton is ranked by On3 as a four-star prospect and the No. 6 tight end in the country. He’s ranked as the No. 135 overall prospect in the class.

LSU will now ink three high school tight ends on Wednesday with Pimpton, Jackson McGohan and Mac Markway.

As a senior at North Crowley, Pimpton appeared in 12 games and made 57 catches for 914 yards and 17 touchdowns.

He finished his high school career with 28 games played, 85 catches, 1,326 yards and 21 touchdowns.

With only one scholarship tight end on the current roster in freshman Mason Taylor, there’s a good chance Pimpton – one of the best pass-catchers at tight end this cycle – will see immediate playing time in Baton Rouge next season.

On3 Scouting Summary

Long-bodied tight end prospect who may arguably have the widest catch radius in the entire country. Complete mismatch in the redzone. Natural pass catcher that can high point the football with ease with strong hands. Smoother athlete that lacks ideal twitch but can separate with his wiggle and long strides. Willing and active blocker, raw power is evident but lacks necessary mass at this point for the next level. Threw a tremendous 54-foot-10 in the shot put and a 160-foot-10 in the discus during his junior track and field campaign. Will need a year or two to develop mass in lowers but has the frame and build to carry it. High floor prospect who could play an immediate role in an offense the day he steps on campus. Should turn into an every down player as he continues to develop his lower half.
