NC State women’s basketball landed its third commitment of the 2024 class Wednesday night. Elite five-star point guard Zamareya Jones joined the Wolfpack during an announcement ceremony at Bethel (N.C.) North Pitt High.

ESPN’s class of 2024 rankings consider Jones the No. 17 recruit in the nation. Standing 5-7, the senior point guard is the No. 2 player in North Carolina and head coach Wes Moore’s highest-rated commit of this cycle.

This is the Wolfpack’s second-consecutive year landing a commitment from a five-star point guard after Zoe Brooks signed with the program in the 2023 class.

Following the commitment ceremony at North Pitt High, the elite senior spoke with High School OT.

“I love the coaches, I love the players,” Jones told High School OT.

During that same interview, Jones also shouted out Wolfpack assistant coach Nikki West, who played an important role in her recruitment.

Earlier this year, she released a top five that included Mississippi Sate, Georgia, Florida State, Alabama and NC State. Jones took an official visit to Raleigh Sept. 29. Prior to that trip, she also stopped by Georgia, Mississippi State and Alabama.

Per Sports Illustrated, Jones finished the 2022-2023 season averaging 28.8 points, 5.6 steals, 4.7 rebound and 7.1 assists per game with North Pitt High. She also took home the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association girls basketball player of the year award.

The elite guard joins a Wolfpack class that also includes four-star guard Devyn Quigley and forward Lorena Awou, who both officially visited campus Sept. 15 and committed earlier this fall.

Per the qctimes.com, Awou, who plays for East Moline (Ill.) United High, averaged 12 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a junior. Quigley, a 5-11 wing prospect from Manchester Township (NJ) High, ranks No. 47 nationally and scored 34.9 points per game last season, per nj.com. She also recorded 11.3 rebounds and 3.75 steals per game.

Starting Nov. 8, high school senior basketball commits can officially sign with their college programs, so NC State will make this elite class official soon.

The Wolfpack heads into the 2023-2024 season with 11 scholarship players, including center River Baldwin, center Lizzy Williamson and forward Mimi Collins, who are all graduate students this year, and senior guard Madison Hayes. NC State’s staff could sign a large class this year, one season after bringing in 4 scholarship freshmen.
