The entire QB market is so out of whack that all of those mid/bottom tier QBs are getting so overpaid. Teams are afraid to miss out on the QB merry-go-round, so they end up overpaying for someone like Jones (or paying too much for Dak, overpaying for Cousins, overpaying for Watson, etc). The side-effect to it is all of these QBs being drafted in the top 5/10 even though they shouldn't have a top 5/10 grade on them.

I think most agree that paying Jones was a mistake. The problem with benching him is that you don't have a potential replacement on the roster.
They aren't going to move forward with DeVito or Lock. They are probably better off letting him play and maybe getting somebody interested.

Interested in what? There is no one that would be interested in his current contract. And, the only way they need to pay him next season is if he gets hurt. Benching him is the obvious move if you're ready to move on from him.

SIAP but this just hit me....

Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito. Flip their first names.

Tommy Jones and Daniel DeVito. So I looked around........

Tommy Lee Jones and Danny DeVito (uncredited) were both in "Men in Black".

"Men in Black" was released in 1997.

In 1997, the Giants' starting QB was Dave Brown. He was injured in Game #6. Danny Kanell was the starter for the remainder of the season.

In 1998, Kanell sucked azz and was benched after the Giants started 3-7.

After the 1998 season, the Giants cut Kanell to create salary cap room for the signing of Penn Stater Kerry Collins.

It’s next yrs injury guarantee they are worried about. If he gets hurt this yr next yr is fully guaranteed. If he is healthy they can release him
