I did not know Amos transferred to Wiscy. Was he not an Iowa commit if I am not mistaken?

Not sure, but him being only being a NQ type guy is one of the bigger surprises of the season for me. I know, I know Freestyle =/= folkstyle, but I was thinking he would be challenging AJ this year.

I never understood this. If you can't beat a guy on the mat it's not likely you can beat him in a fight. Sure, you can strike but chances are the other guy turns it into a grappling match.

I think something like 85% of fights end up on the ground. Even in MMA, it's no surprise that the most common base is wrestling. Throw in some BJJ subs and learning that being on your back is better than your stomach and away you go.

When my son started wrestling, they had to teach him not to pull guard if being taken down. Was pretty funny actually.

285 R1: Kerk vs. Brandon Metz (North Dakota (hmm, I think I'll use Metz instead of initials)

Per 1
Kerk in on double shot which he switches to a single for a TD, 2-0. Met to his feet and nearly out but Kerk stay with him. OOB with 2:11 left. Metz tries to stand but is flattened. And a stalemate. Metz not doing a lot on bottom, but Kerk not doing much to tilt him. RT goes over 2 min. Ref tells Metz to get active, but it doesn't have much impact. End. RT @ 2:41 for Kerk

Per 2
Metz takes bottom. He quickly gets flattened. Kerk working a one-on-one but not much happening. Metz finally works to his feet and gets driven back down and flattened. Kerk comes under the arm and gets a tilt, he gets swipes, and he gets the pin @ 4:17!!!!!

Bottom line……We need bonus points starting at 7:00 !!!! Our crowd is so freaking quiet it’s upsetting to be honest. If anyone has social media to tell our PSU crowd to be more vocal please do especially when it comes to stalling. 🥇

Lewan was 4 seconds away from going down and we needed it. Instead he pulled it out.
Exactly what happened at bigs. Lewan pulls it out and berge and hidlebrandt lose with final point.
Just don’t get what is happening with hildebrandt he is just gassed that last two weeks.

I'm not a wrasslin guru.. but it would seem as though a cardboard cutout would have done as well as Hildebrandt the last 2 times out?
If you have never wrestled, you have no idea the amount of mental and physical conditioning that occurs during the season. Not to mention nagging injuries that worsen or, at the very least, linger throughout the season. We have no idea what Hildebrandt has going on in wrestling life, personal life, academic life, etc. Putting the kid down for making the national tournament and losing in OT in the toughest sport on the planet is uncalled for. He has already probably achieved more than anyone on this message board.

We are going to need another round of bonus points. It appears the folks seeding this thing might know what they are doing.

See y'all after dinner

The good news is Lewan faces Young in the next round so one of them will get thrown to the consolation bracket. If Cameron Amine wins tonight, he will more than likely face Marinelli in the quarters so one of those guys will get thrown to the consolation bracket.

Amen. He collapsed at year end; I have no idea why. Hopefully, Robbie Howard can come in and do something. Ditto for ‘57 and ‘65.

I noticed these. Why change unis at Nationals?

Perhaps we're spoiled at PSU with having classic unis, but I just don't get this.

View of expectations vs results after Round 1 for PSU, Iowa and Mich?

A tad early to assess, but let's take a look

125:
PSU - #16 seed Drew Hildebrandt
Iowa - #13 seed Drake Ayala
Mich - #1 seed Nick Suriano
- Hildebrandt and Ayala lost; Suriano won. Hildebrandt @ #17 lost to #16 -- kind of a toss-up. Ayala @ #13 lost to #20. PSU and Iowa were hoping for/expecting wins here. Michigan assumed they'd get a win. So, below expectations for PSU and Iowa; met expectations for Michigan

133:
PSU - #1 seed RBY
Iowa - #5 seed Austin DeSanto
Mich - #6 seed Dylan Ragusin
- RBY won by MAJor, DeSanto won by TF, Ragusin won by DEC. RBY and DeSanto were expected to win and they both got bonus points. A slight plus for Iowa as DeSanto got a TF. Ragusin won but did not score bonus points, so a negative for them

141:
PSU - #1 seed Nick Lee
Iowa - #2 seed Jaydin Eierman
Mich - #24 seed Stevan Micic
Lee won by MAJor, Eierman won by DEC, and Micic lost. Lee and Eierman were expected to win. A plus for PSU as they scored bonus and Iowa did not. Michigan was probably hoping that Micic could summon some of his former prowess, but he was a #24 facing a #9 seed, so by chalk his defeat was expected

149:
PSU - #13 seed Beau Bartlett
Iowa - #8 seed Max Murin
Mich - no wrestler
- Bartlett won by DEC, and Murin won by fall. A plus for Iowa with the bonus points, especially since that was the only fall at 149.

157:
PSU - #16 seed Brady Berge
Iowa - #9 seed Kaleb Young
Mich - #8 seed Will Lewan
- Berge lost, Young won by DEC, Lewan won in SV. Berge was in a #16 vs. #17 match, so that's a tossup, and the match was really close. Young won by 1 point in a DEC. Lewan won 4-2 in SV. PSU was hoping/expecting a win from Brady, but by seed it was a toss-up, whereas Young and Lewan were expected to win. A slight plus for Iowa and for Mich

165:
PSU - no wrestler
Iowa - #3 seed Alex Marinelli
Mich - #6 seed Cameron Amine
- Marinelli won by DEC and Amine won by DEC. Marinelli was a 3 seed vs a #30 seed, and Amine was a 6 seed vs a #27 seed. PSU scored what they expected. Iowa and Mich got advancement, but both were likely disappointed in not getting bonus

174:
PSU - #1 seed Carter Starocci
Iowa - #5 seed Michael Kemerer
Mich - #3 seed Logan Massa
- CStar won by PIN, Kemerer won by DEC,and Massa won by MAJor. A plus for PSU, a negative for Iowa, and a push for Mich

184:
PSU - #2 seed Aaron Brooks
Iowa - #18 seed Abe Assad
Mich - #1 seed Myles Amine
- Brooks won by MAJor, Assad lost DEC, and Amin won by TF. A slight plus for Mich in getting extra bonus points but it's about what PSU and Mich expected. Iowa had a #18 against a #15 seed (Bolen, VT), so by chalk they should have expected the outcome. I'm sure they were hoping for a win

197:
PSU - #1 seed Max Dean
Iowa - #6 seed Jacob Warner
Mich - #4 seed Patrick Brucki
- Dean won by TF, Warner won by MAJor, and Brucki won by DEC. A slight advantage for PSU, and a disappointment for Mich

285:
PSU - #4 seed Kerk
Iowa - #3 seed Tony Cassioppi
Mich - #7 seed Mason Parris
- Kerk won by PIN, Cassioppi won by DEC, and Parris won by MAJor. A plus for PSU, a disappointment for Iowa, and a slight plus for Mich

That's the data for each weight class. Others can draw overall conclusions.
