Frustrating to see them swept by the Rangers in this series and for the season. That's not exactly a great team in the other dugout, but of course the Phillies have shown they can have many of those same tendencies, as well. The bad defense, while expected, is so frustrating to watch.

At any rate, onward to San Diego, which out to be tough. Padres have won seven of their last 10.

Time for the TEAM to pick up Bryce. Schwarber, Realmuto, Hoskins, Bohm, Castellanos, and Gregorius. Moniak is hitting .313 for the Ironpigs. He’s hitting the ball hard. Bet on him back in Philadelphia, soon. If he is brought up, he better play. Phils are notorious for playing head games with guys.

If you’re a Phillies fan, it’s bad feeling when you wake up to the news that Harper has a broken thumb.
I saw it happen on Comcast. If he didn’t get hit on the thumb, it may have hit him in the face. Pitcher came up and in on him. Legit baseball. After he got over his frustration at what was clearly a bad injury, he exonerated the pitcher by yelling an apology for getting upset initially.

Snell was visibly upset right after it happened from video I saw of him when he was off the mound. Not deliberate, and some idiots say Harper turned onto it!! He was trying to avoid another head beaming. 97 mph fastball up and in!

Yup. Figure its two months just like for Jean Segura. Late August maybe for both to be back on the team.

Sadly, this stretch without Harper is going to feature a lot of frustrating nights like last night. Think I've seen enough of Moniak. Another 0-for night for Castellanos. Yuck.

Losing Harper for 2 mos is an insurmountable blow for this club. Their playoff chances are effectively zero at this point. They'll fight like hell, but struggle to maintain .500 while the other wild card contenders stretch well above .500.

Good to see Gibson work his way back from the first inning last night. I don't think he missed a bat until the 4th, but he seemed to get his control back.

A tremendous at-bat by Herrera to end the game. Swinging at (and missing ) 3 pitches that bounced in front of the plate. All 3 were the same exact breaking ball in the same exact location. Pitch recognition not in his game. SMH.

Schwarber was having that problem, too. Herrera did absolutely smoke 2 linedrives in his first at-bats. Helsley may be the best reliever right now.

How we feeling all? Certainly has been a better run of late than any of us could have expected after Harper went down.

How can it be that Thomson knows how to manage the bullpen better than Girardi did? The change was needed, team had become stagnant. I’m liking Stott’s defense and it appears Realmuto, Hoskins, and, hopefully Castellanos, are starting to click at the plate better. Phillies may actually be in the division lead without some of those horrific bullpen performances. If the Mets continue their winning ways, well then it may be their year. Getting deGrom and Scherzer back is gonna help them.

It sure is. That pitching staff is really good. And as for the Phillies and bullpen management, I just think Girardi had some really dumb rules that he was tied to and rigid on and that did no one any good.
