Dominguez clearly didn’t have it and should’ve been pulled.

in a "normal" game, I would agree. However, they were using the bullpen-by-committee approach in lieu of a starting pitcher, and as such, the 'pen was stretched pretty thin.

Sir Anthony almost got out of the inning. The home plate ump called the Card out at the plate on a SF for the third out. However, the Cards challenged the call, and it was overturned upon video review.

Now Alec Bohm is injured sliding head first into second. One could read his lips saying his hand is broken. Do these guys practice sliding, that was ugly.

Broken or dislocated? I had a really bad dislocated finger once, it was in the shape of a Z and had the trainer pop it back in. Hurt like hell to put it back and had swelling but no break.

Either way, not what we need right now.

So much for that sweep there @Tom McAndrew. Whomp whomp. Back to where we started this week.

yeah, that was very disappointing. Some bloop hits for the Cards early on, then some solid hits for them. Once again, the Phils gave Nola very run support. And the Bohm play could be costly. I actually turned the game off in the 7th or 8th inning, and I very rarely do that.

Seems like Realmuto has been avoiding other things beside the vaccine this year, like hitting!

Gotta get a split tonight in Toronto. St. Louis is facing the Dodgers and already won game one. Need to keep pace here. Miami is playing well currently, too. Important four games here coming up before the break.

Badly needed day off today to regroup. Amazing how things went from starting good in St. Louis to absolutely cratering over the last four games. Last night it felt like they had quit. Hopefully they can get it going again this weekend, but I have my doubts.

yeah, they were in good shape in the Sunday game in St. Louis, and gave it away in the 8th inning, which started the trend in the wrong direction.

too many Ks by the Phils in the 2-game series in Toronto. You wonder how much the impact of unvaccinated players had on the results. (FWIW, I read that Kansas City is leaving behind something like 10 players when they play Toronto, as they are not vaccinated.)

A day away from the grind will hopefully allow the Phightins to clear their heads and get back to winning games.

It definitely threw things out of whack, no question.

And yeah, I think six of those 10 for KC are starters.

I thought there was a real possibility they were getting no hit. Alcantara is a monster. Huge win and no matter how they got there, it doesn’t matter. I don’t care about the infield lip or whatever, they grinded a win in a huge first game of the series. Hopefully, the kid tomorrow making his start has some jitters and the bats come alive. I thought 5-4 the last nine games before the break was what they needed. Can still get it done.

Second series vs Marlins they have beat Alcantara.

Yes, some good grinders for both those games. Let’s get these last two in Miami and get to the break where Segura and Bohm can get a couple of extra day of treatment and hopefully get ready. They need another arm since I’m not counting on Efflin. The bullpen seems to have settled but adding a piece there never hurts. Two weeks to trading deadline, hoping Dombrowski is active.

Outstanding effort by Nola. Get Harper and Segura back, we have a shot in a best of three with Wheller and Nola.

They got a lot accomplished. They needed 2-2 against STL to win the season series and have the tie breaker. TOR series was a disaster and at 2-4 going to Miami, the table was set to go 3-6 considering they play poorly there and were facing that monster in Game 1. Sweep the Fish to get to the break 5-4 for the last nine which should give them a nice boost going into the break. The 25 game run after the break sets up decently. Time for Nick and JT to do some of the lifting. Hoskins and Schwarber did their share post Bryce getting hurt. I like where this is going.

The Phillies took prep CF Justin Crawford at pick #17 overall. Justin is Carl Crawford’s son and JP Crawford’s (remember him?) cousin.

Any thoughts on the pick? CF is a big area of need as is just about any high-end OF or middle infield prospect.

Phillies select CF Crawford
