With Atlanta refusing to lose, this upcoming three game series with the Mets is critical for the Phillies. Right now it looks like Buck has Scherzer, deGrom and Bassist pitching, a juggernaut in a 3 game series.Keith is full of it as he is scheduled to be in St Louis this weekend for a Cardinals reunion. He was a great player but he is full of himself. Gary Cohen and Ron Darling are at least balanced, but they are all drooling over themselves with the Mets this year. Season isn’t over yet.

As opposed to early in the season when I was bemoaning the results nightly!Fun rally. I love it when the Phils are playing good. I look forward to flipping them on every night. Feels good to be excited.
Tom,FWIW, in their last 10 games respectively, the Phightins are 9-1 and the Braves are 5-5. As for the upcoming series, it's interesting, and somewhat important, but I wouldn't call it critical. The Phils had such a lousy first few months of the season that catching the Mets is going to be really tough (they are 10 games behind). The Phils would have to remain insanely hot, and the Mets would have to stumble, for the Phils to have any chance to overtake them.
A wildcard spot is the Phils more likely end-of-season spot. As of tonight, the wildcard standings (for 3 spots) are:
1. Atlanta (66-46)
2. Phils (62-48)
3. San Diego (63-51)
4. Milwaukee (60-50)
Kyle Gibson is pitching for the Phils tomorrow. As such, the matchups in the Mets series will likely be:
Friday: Ranger Suarez vs. Max Scherzer
Saturday: Aaron Nola vs. Jacob deGrom
Sunday: Zack Wheeler vs. Chris Bassitt
He’s out for tomorrow, but possible DH for the next few days afterSchwarber day to day mild right calf strain. DH role?
It’s a shame when you think of the guys like Proefrock, Pope, Uncle Hughie, Dallas, Arbuckle, etc. and the fact that the game doesn’t or wouldn’t have a place for them today. Those late nights at The Beachcomber in Clearwater when the booze flowed and the baseball talk seemed like it would never end was magic.Former Phillies executive reflects on career, state of a changing game
The consummate behind-the-scenes lieutenant during his time with the Phillies, former front-office exec Scott Proefrock reflected on his career, the Phils’ glory days and how baseball has changed. By Jim Salisburywww.nbcsports.com
Hey, one night for you and good for me as I have Apple TV. I have Directv and Comcast blocks all my chances to see the Phillies if they are on MLBTV. I only see them when the local channel has them on (rarely) or when they play the Mets, Yankees or Pirates because I get all those channels.I was hoping the Phils would win 2 of three against the Mets this weekend and thought this was the most likely loss. Great effort for the win. I wish I could have watched it. Fuggin Apple TV.....
This is why The Mets are so formidable this year. Their starting pitching is pretty awesome.Tonight felt like Carpenter-Halladay in game 5. Just couldn't stratch across a run or two. Great performance by Nola in the loss.
Stott isn’t a bad hitter.Well I’ll take that result considering the lineup with Maton, Stott, and Hall batting. Sometimes Castellanos looks like he doesn’t have a clue at the plate plus Schwarber only up once and no Harper or Segura. Phillies pitching has been tough on opponents. Looks like the Phillies are sticking around this year.
Big game today. Wheeler vs Bassitt. Series win would be great right now.
It’s one game, no one said they’re better than the Mets. They own the season series against every other NL playoff team. It’s a rough offensive series but the Phillies still have a deep lineup and bullpen when everyone’s healthy. Along with a solid top 3 in the rotation. The Braves just lost 4/5 to the Mets and didn’t play them near as competitive as the Phils did the first 2 nights.Today is the day that worries me about playoff baseball. This is the Mets 3rd best pitcher and here are a bunch of zeros again. Saw on the telecast the Mets starters have a 2.13 ERA since Max Scherzer returned from the IL, that was over a month ago. In a playoff series against deGrom, Scherzer and Diaz, good luck. Their offense isn’t great but it is plenty good enough and their defense is consistent and solid.
I know the Phillies have the least amount of errors in baseball since June 1st but I saw some concerns in this series that the stats don’t tell the whole story. The Mets scored a couple runs in this series because Nick had zero range in RF. When he does catch it his arm is below average. The biggest hindrance to this team in big games in the playoffs will be Schwarber and Nick having to start in the outfield because Harper will DH.

The Mets weren’t exactly an offensive juggernaut except for one inning today and they were bloop hits. Phillies just couldn’t get a hit when they needed it last night and today. It’s one game, no one said they’re better than the Mets. They own the season series against every other NL playoff team.
