Will you watch? I’m ready for them to be over only because the commercials are dreadful.

Yup. Whenever I can.

Looking forward to the Mass Skiing/Shooting event, which is basically an organized terrorist winter training program.

Bobsledding reminds me of my 82 year old neighbors driving in snow. Or rain. Or leaves on the road.

Ski jumping is like Acapulco Cliff Diving with sticks on your feet. They should make them do flips.

Good stuff. Looking forward to it.

Olympics held in Asia are tough to watch live. That said, I'm looking forward to them, and will watch a great deal of the competition.
Conversely, for Asians, Olympics held in the Americas are tough to watch live. As my extended family complains to me whenever the Olympics is held in the Americas.

Conversely, for Asians, Olympics held in the Americas are tough to watch live. As my extended family complains to me whenever the Olympics is held in the Americas.

The 2022 Winter Olympics are being held in China. The 2020 (2021 due to COVID) Summer Olympics were held in Japan. The 2018 Winter Olympics were held in South Korea. The 2008 Summer Olympics were held in China, and the 2000 Summer Olympics were held in Australia. That's five Olympics held in Asia or Oceania this century.

By comparison, during this century your extended family in Asia has had to deal with the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada, and the 2002 Winter Olympics in the USA. So they've gotten to complain three times, whereas Americans have gotten to complain five times.

Looking ahead to which continents/regions future Olympics are scheduled for, there is the 2028 Summer Olympics in the USA, and the 2032 Summer Olympics in Australia.

Hate winter but enjoy the Winter Olympics. Figure Skating is one sport I ignore.

I enjoy watching some events but not others. I like both alpine and nordic skiing, women's figure skating, curling, and both speed skating disciplines. I'm not a fan of events which are scored by judges. The exception is the above noted women's figure skating which I admittedly watch simply to check out the sweet bodies. There aren't any bad events in the winter Olympics, IMHO. All can be interesting. I can't say the same for the summer games.

I care much less since NHL players won’t be partaking. Olympic hockey with NHL players was IMO the absolute best part of the Olympics - summer or winter.

“A few years later, the U.S. began using professional athletes at the Games - Dream Teams. I always found that term ironic because now that we have Dream Teams, we seldom ever get to dream. But on one weekend, as America and the world watched, a group of remarkable young men gave the nation what it needed most: a chance, for one night, not only to dream, but a chance, once again, to believe.”

Fair point Bob. I’ll still watch without the pros playing but the engagement will be less for me.

Don't care, but will tune in for whatever is on. It's mostly pointless posturing by countries. The Winter Olympics are more entertaining than summer IMO. Will probably make a point of watching Chloe Kim compete.

For just about every athlete involved, it will be the highlight of their career. You have to respect that. They’re going to go in with everything they’ve got.

I have a nephew who is an archer. He’s a borderline Olympian. Archers have long careers, too. It’s going to be a hell of a challenge for him. But he is consumed with getting to the Olympics.

I don’t care but I’ll probably watch out of curiosity. The x games skiing events have turned me off to them. Their silly.

My wife LOVES the Olympics. I soured on them substantially when I saw how terrible they are for the host cities, their inhabitants, the local ecology and the economy. So you know, everything about a place.

Who hasn’t been waiting 4 years to be able to watch some fascinating curling match? 🥌 🥌🥌.
Lovely, 47 year old, Jennifer Jones, the Canadian curling skip and an attorney, is worth watching all by herself. She was the Olympic champion as skip of the Canadian team at the 2014 Sochi Games and is the first female skip to go through the Games undefeated.

Not going to get sanctimonious but I have a hard time getting excited about an event held in a country with a recent history of major human rights issues

JMO friends
I can relate, but opening up the country to outsiders might have some benefit.
