I thought the challenge was good, in that Andonian was awarded a TD there then it was waved off. (I didn't think it was a TD in real time or on replay.) Yeah, Levi got to catch his breath, but so did Andonian.
@Tom McAndrew did you get a good view or side view of Haines? Did he throw a massive bridge to avoid being pinned? Was it as close as it looked? I only saw the top view and had to take a business call.

174 Quarters: #1 seed Carter Starocci vs. #8 seed Bailee O'Reilly (Minnesota) (I'll use BO)

Per 1
They each have an early reach, but nothing. Fast pace by both guys early on. BO sort of shoot, but CStr blocks. CStar with a low single, he has him bouncing and gets the TD, 2-0. They are on the edge. BO tries a sit out, but nothing. OOB with 1:15 left. Optional start by CStar, so it's 2-1. CStaw with a lazy reach/shot, but BO doesn't make him pay. CStar in on a single, BO with a good whizzer. Again, they are on the edge. CStar tries to pull BO back in. BO does a split, CStar pulls him in and gets the TD just before the buzzer, 4-1. RT @ ?? for CStar.

Per 2
CStar takes bottom. He's out in about 18 sec, 5-1. RT down to 19 sec for CStar. Pace has slowed. BO reaches/shoots, blocked. Collar ties. Both guys doing a lot of head control. End. RT @ 19 sec for CStar

Per 3
BO takes bottom. He works up, then tries a switch, then to his feet, then another switch, then another switch and he's out, 5-2. RT up to 40 sec for CStar. Bo not shooting -- hard to win when you're trailing if you don't shoot. End. 5-2 DEC for CStar.

PSU is 5-0 in the quarterfinals

I answered this in response to a different post. Here's what I said:

I went back and re-watched the 1st period of Haines's match. A combination of a good bridge by Levi, and his right shoulder/scapula not being on the mat, made it never really close to a pin. Haines was in trouble, for sure, but he didn't lose his composure, and avoided the pin.

I appreciate the ability that Beau, SVN, and Levi showed to comeback from sizable early deficits, but they need not do that again…

it's just a reminder that when you get to Nationals, all of these guys are good. We're so spoiled by watching PSU wrestlers dominate. Beau doesn't have a lot of offense, so a close match was kind of expected. SVN is always a wild card. Levi rarely gives up 6-point moves, but it was pretty much all Levi after that.

I salute each of them for staying with their technique, and finding a way to win

Romera refuses to wrestle anywhere but the edge. Love that AB took him down on the edge. If he wrestles anywhere else it's a major.

Whew... I made the mistake of going over to their board.... Don't anyone thinking about it. It's everything from Ped State, PSU is on steroids, to the refs and the NCAA are giving PSU the title and want them to win. It's flat out ugly. They get butt hurt every year when PSU pulls away in the Quarters/semis knowing Cael is that much closer to Gable's record.
I've learned a lot about wrestling over the past few years and one of the things I found most interesting is that a lot of Iowa fans are clueless homers. In that way they are not much different than any other fan base, but their arrogance about their "knowledge" of the sport makes their mindless protestations all the sweeter to read.

184 pounds: Aaron Brooks, PSU vs. Kaleb Romero, OSU

First period
Plenty of movement from both wrestlers to kick this one off. Brooks is on the attack now, but no scoring yet. Stalemate called with 47 seconds left in the period. Now it's Romero who dives in on Brooks' ankle and it ends in a stalemate. Scoreless after one. Romero did get called for stalling at the end of the first. His first warning.

Second period
Brooks down to start. He's out in four seconds for a 1-0 lead. AB shoots on a single but they go off the edge. Back to a neutral start. Good bit of action sends them off the edge again. Brooks now tries a trip and they circle as Brooks gets a single leg. Romero kicking away on the edge but Brooks pulls him back in and it's a 3-0 lead for the Nittany Lion as they work on the edge. That's the score after two.

Third period
Romero down. Romero shoulder rolls out with 1:30 to go. Stalemate on the edge with 55 seconds left. Stalling Romero. It's 4-1 now Brooks with 40 seconds to go. An amazing scramble results in nothing as Romero somehow avoided Brooks' grasps. They go off the edge. That's it.'

Brooks d. Romero, 4-1

Tom - with absolutely no due respect Iowa disagrees. The refs are purposely not calling pins against PSU and Cael is paying the refs. I read it on the internet so you can trust me.

Iowa now in 4th place…

Not a huge surprise. If you win quarterfinals, you're assured of finishing in the top 6. So if you win, in addition to the advancement, your team gets the 6 points for a top 6 finish. Basically, there's always a lot of movement in the team scores during the quarterfinals due to the 6 additional points awarded.

Their fall back to "ped state" name calling is akin to references to Nazis or Hitler when losing an argument. It is what it is.

To borrow a line from the Iowa wrestling site from a number of years ago:

"They hate us because they ain't us."

@GregPickel -- I've got to start getting ready to leave, so the Kerk and the Dean matches will be yours in terms of PBP. I may still be around when they take place (depends on how fast things move in Tulsa), but I'm done for PBP in Session III. I'll post something in the Session IV thread tonight indicating if/when I'm good to go.

As always, thanks for your help!

I believe that's something that has to come from either PSU or Learfield. So, we'll see. Tom, what's your experience there?

It's usually available in a day or so in the LionVision archive.

In terms of clips of Ironhead's audio, people seem to do it all the time, but I don't have any experience with that.

Check the pinned post on greatest Byers calls in a few days to see if it's added to that.

Dean and Kerk may not overlap. No assignment yet for Dean so Kerk should be over first

We're just happy to be able to pass along that Jeff Byers is still alive. I, truly, thought the Haines pin was going to cause him some kind of medical situation. And, I'm only half kidding.
If there’s anything to the rumor that Jeff was seen having a cigarette after that call it may have caused something drastically different than what you were fearing.
