Covey being the option here is a sick joke. 2-19 road record 7.22 ERA isn't unlucky it is batting practice. Hamels would do fine. F this ****.

Say what you want about the offense, but the pitching/ defense ensures that many games the team isn’t even in the game enough for the offense (sputtering or not) to matter. Posted before about giving up 4+ runs in single innings and 8 runs or over a seemingly disproportionate number of games. Seems like 1/4 or 1/5 of games are not competitive on the bad side. Amazing that they are still near .500 considering such frequency of non-competitive games.

Meanwhile Schwarber is the worst everyday player in baseball.
A couple of days ago I checked and saw that his K rate is about the same as last year. Same K rate but average is in the tank which means his batting average for balls put in play is likely much worse this year than last. This stuff tends to regress to the mean so maybe this will turn around (hopefully). I’ve said it before that losing Rhys would really impact this team even with the ups and downs that Rhys always had. You don’t replace guys that can carry a team for a couple of weeks when they get hot.

It’s still about the starters and I hop an additional starter with a better Schwarber and Turner turn this around.

Painter getting hurt really put a damper on the starting rotation. As far as Hoskins I personally think he's terrible, yes, he will hit 30 homers strikes out way too much and going to hit around 230 plus his defense will cost the Phils at least a few games every season. The Phils need to invest some real dollars in the minors and stop trying to buy a world series. Just my thoughts.

1. Philadelphia Phillies, 10,551 Losses

The Philadelphia Phillies have spent their entire existence in the City of Brotherly Love and have won two World Championships with seven pennants. The Phillies have lost 1,087 more games than they have recorded victories. It has been tough for their fans to stick with them as they have suffered through 14 100-loss seasons including in 1941 when they had their worst regular season mark at 43-111-1. They have also finished 74 seasons with a winning percentage of less than .500, compared to just 58 seasons of .500 or better baseball.

The Phillies became the first professional team to reach 10,000 losses back in the 2007 season. They only had one World Series championship in their first 125 years of existence. Luckily for Phillies fans, they received a consolation prize in the 2008 season, with the team's second World Series championship after defeating Tampa Bay in the '08 Fall Classic. They followed that up with an AL Pennant in 2009 before falling to the Yankees in the World Series. They've fallen back on tough times with the emergence of the Washington Nationals in the NL East.

Is that your typo, or was that in the text that you copied?

Turner is at .243. Other than his 27-game rookie year, he’s hit at least .271, with .284 being his second-worst. Nine years. He’ll get hot.

This is, decidedly, not great!

This lineup is ultra expensive and crap. I’m worried that Dombrowski doubled down on a fluke playoff run and will be very limited because of it. They may effectively need a new starting rotation after this year. I’m not sure how they have the finances to swing that.

Very fair point, WSL. They're willing to spend but at some point that money has to equal results. Right now in too many areas, it's not.

The inability for this team to get a shutdown inning is truly remarkable in the worst way possible.
...and the opponent doesn't matter...sure it happened against the Dodgers and Braves but it has also happened at some point in almost every series against otherwise mediocre or even below average offenses...

Since there’s no dedicated MLB thread, I’ll post this here: I’ll be surprised if Stephen Strasberg ever pitches again. “Severe nerve damage.” Already, he has not pitched in a game for 23 months.
