Since there’s no dedicated MLB thread, I’ll post this here: I’ll be surprised if Stephen Strasberg ever pitches again. “Severe nerve damage.” Already, he has not pitched in a game for 23 months.
Well, he at least got to experience the ultimate finish to that one season and be a huge reason for the outcome. Saw him make an early minors start and all I remember saying is that he reminded me of Tom Seaver. Gigantic calves and lower legs to create an absolutely perfect engine for a power pitcher.

Yeah, 2019 was special.

deGrom May be in the same boat
Pure speculation on my part but he is always injured the past few years and can’t stay healthy. Always has elbow swelling, not good for a guy expected to throw 100mph consistently.

And sure enough deGrom having Tommy John surgery.

Definitely setting up to be a fascinating call in the off season. I don’t see how the Phillies don’t sign Nola but it will be expensive. If he doesn’t have a good second half, teams will point to his track record and say the contract situation distracted him. It’s almost like he can’t lose given the premium for top of rotation level guys. He’s maddeningly inconsistent inning to inning game to game. Dombrowski has arguably his biggest decision to date this offseason.

Frustrating. Up 5-1, only to lose 9-8. And it looked like (and was initially called) that Clemens hit a 2-run HR in the top of the 9th with 2 out, to give the Phils a lead, but eventually it was ruled foul (correctly).
That was the biggest bummer of all from a game featuring a lot of them. The kind you look back on late in a pennet race and are sick over. Arizona is very good but man, no matter how good they are or not, that place just seems to be a house of horrors for our Phillies.

Ortiz with the three inning save. That’s a rarity nowadays. It’s good for the bullpen though.

Seranthony hangs a slider with 2 outs, 2 on, in the bottom of the 8th, and it becomes a 3-run HR for Christian Walker for the DBacks to tie up the game, 3-3. Phils were cruising until the bottom of the 8th

Phils got a little lucky in the top of the 10th, as the DBacks screwed up a short fly to right (collision between 2nd baseman and RFer).
