Potential OT targets listed:
  • Naquil Betrand (leaning to SEC schools)
  • Austin Ramsey (UK commit)
  • DJ Chester (from GA)
  • Nick Oliveira (Cinci commit)
  • Wait and See (just see what develops at offensive tackle as the season goes on, evaluate tape from this upcoming season and see if any new targets emerge as a result of a breakout senior season, and wait for coaching changes at other schools and guys who have rock-solid commitments right now as they start to look around.

Possible flip?

Staff here said yesterday during the daily show that Smolik seemed to indicate that he wanted to end his recruiting prior to his senior season and that we were likely the favorite unless he took other visits.

I'd say he's a good candidate, but it's very possible he's going to have teams in his ear until signing day.

regarding Zion, is the staff afraid about losing a CB prospect in the near future?...i know he did really well camping at PSU and put up good testing numbers but is there more to this story?...does the staff feel they might have too many guys who are closer to Safeties and not true Cornerbacks?...can Zion play WR at the next level and be like a Marquis Wilson type?...or is with PSU lacking really many true/realistic targets (4/high 3 stars) on their board they are left with lower-tier prospects going forward?...thanks

It's a good question. Certainly Payne is solid to PSU and Washington decommitted from Bama, made visits, and seemingly chose PSU over MSU so one would think he is solid (surely he could have stayed in the south if that was important to him but he instead looked to two Big schools). It also seemed that maybe Haynes was going to get a look at CB had he stayed with PSU so perhaps this is Zion replacing Haynes and another true WR will join the class in the future. With the exception of QB and OT one would think PSU is in "best athlete available" mode and given this kids speed I can see why he would fit that description.

With the spread offenses now the normal, I think they are recruiting more CBs and safeties than before because of the need to defend that type of offense and depth at the position. At least, that’s my presumption.

He visited UNC last weekend instead of our event. @RyanSnyder covered it Tuesday.
yep i remember Ryan mentioning that was just hoping all the momentum gained from Keys last visit would carry us through, guess not...also Jalen Tompson to MSU per Wiltfong...man this class has hit a brick wall since the Rojas and Robinson commits

It's not like signing day is tomorrow, but the staff seems to be behind the eight ball at a few positions. Need pass rushers in every class, and obviously WR and OT seem to be a scramble at this point with a good many of the staff's high priority targets committing elsewhere.

Need a couple of positive surprises!!

NIL is an enemy to PSU football at the moment. It sucks out some hope I have about our future on the field and is kind of depressing to think about.

Bummer about Tomatian Parker decommiting

He is exactly the type of DT PSU needs in this class. Sounds like he felt he pulled the commitment trigger too early and he is looking more @ the southern part of the U.S. for a team to play for.

Penn State recruit blames NIL for decommitments; Elite DL Tomarrion Parker becomes latest departure

The bad news is that James Franklin's program has suffered five decommitments this cycle, including four this summer.

The latest came Tuesday when Central High School (Alabama) star Tomarrion Parker, the nation's No. 49 overall prospect and No. 4 defensive lineman, reportedly decommitted from the program.

On3 was first to report his departure.

Considering the 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman was one of the nation's most productive players at his position last season, the loss is significant.

As a junior, Parker racked up 75 tackles, 23 tackles-for-loss and 9.5 sacks.

According to at least one Penn State recruit, those decommitments aren

Brashear High School (Pennsylvania) four-star edge-rusher Ta'Mere Robinson took to Twitter to say he felt NIL was to blame for the series of losses.

"NIL is the only reason we keep losing players," he tweeted before quickly deleting.

Robinson's frustration is, perhaps, understandable.

Possible options for replacing the de-committed DE Parker. From what I've read from the staff about Ta'Mere Robinson I believe he stays at LB, but some of what's suggested implies a move for him to DE.

that's a so-so article. Most of the options listed in it are not viable.

I agree. The article starts off saying PSU got devastating news? No. That’s a huge overstatement. Getting sanctioned with bowl bans and severe scholarship limits is devastating news. Being told you have cancer is devastating news. Finding out a relative passed away or had a horrible accident is devastating news. Losing a high school kid who may, or may not, turn into very successful college football player is disappointing news, not devastating. I guess I should cut the author some slack though as it looks like he is very young.

To all those who wanted the players to be paid above and beyond the scholarships and other perks they already had, careful what you wish for.

I get this but frankly the pages should be flipped. When I go to the thread the latest news is on the last page... imo, that makes zero sense. Flip it such that the most distant posts are furthest from the front page and the most recent posts are front page news. [And yeah, keep the OP post as a header]. Not crazy about this format.

And it seems there are occasions where certain occurences (such as losing someone of this magnitude) should get its own thread.

Isn't going to change anything but those would be nice upgrades. imo, of course.
