Iowa coach throwing a tantrum after their loss. Apparently Iowa took too long pouting about a loss to do their post game conference that Nebraska was asked to go first.

Didn’t realize Iowa was a no show. Too funny! Dawn, Geno, even Mulkey show up after a road loss and say nice things

I feel bad for Kamilla she played her heart out and against some WNBA pros and top overseas talent. I hope she uses this disappointment as fuel. She did make the all tournament team.

Does that mean that they did not qualify for the olympics since they lost all 3 or is there another way in?

They showed up eventually but they wanted to be first, but they took too long. I'm starting to believe the #2 ranking is cursed. No matter who they keep losing.

It was strange ending. Brazil probably could have won, buy they had to win by 8 to qualify for the Olympics. So they were trying to send the game into overtime in hopes they could win by 8 or more. They were deliberately missing shots. Very difficult to play for a tie with a shot clock, though.

I didn't understand that. They had a tie within the last minute or so of the game. I don't know why they chose to foul instead of trying to play them straight up at that time. But overall the guard play for Brazil was atrocious

They have an opportunity to reshape and rebrand the PAC 12. One of the major issues was travel. The league was too spaced apart. There are some schools that they can attract. San Diego State, Fresno State, The Dakotas, Wyoming.
We've been discussing the Pac 12 situation on another thread and I wouldn't want to muddy this thread with that discussion. What you suggest is one way of looking at it, but it might be propitious for them to hold tight as a two-team league to split a full share of CFP money until the current agreement expires.

But in terms of the long haul, it would seem more plausible that two would join an existing conference such as the MWC than for two to try to reshape the Pac 12. I would have thought we would have already seen some overtures toward other schools if the two were going to attempt reshaping the Pac 12.

But I'll admit to anybody, so much unpredictable craziness has happened with conference realignment and expansion that I wouldn't bet a nickel on either possibility. One thing is certain, any such confederation, regardless of how it is branded, will be decidedly second-tier in terms of television appeal and payouts.

The young woman at the mic is clearly disconcerted, and understandably so. The Iowa coach was throwing a tantrum, her petulance probably fueled by the knowledge that she had just blown a game.

True but someone from Nebraska should address their poor sportsmanship

They were playing music etc. during free throws (per the outraged coach)
Likely in between free throws like everybody else. If it was during the game you know the officials would be in trouble for allowing it happened. She's just mad she blew the game and looking for an excuse for the loss.

Clark herself said she didn't hear it btw. The only person complaining is Blunder.

I also felt like this team had another gear, that gear being: Paopao looking for her shot. And even though she didn't score much in the 2nd half, her first-half performance forced UCONN to start switching in the 3rd quarter. And what a mess that was! Here are 3 examples of UCONN leaving one of our players wide open. In 2 cases players are unintentionally doubling Paopao.

USCD6.JPG

USCD7.JPG

USCD8.JPG

The top example you can actually hear Nika Muhl yelling "switch" on the TV broadcast. Most of the blown assignments were on the two freshmen, Arnold and Shade.

That's not bad coaching, obviously. It's just a case of having to play two freshmen more than Geno wants. Remember Fulwiley was pulled from the UNC game for missing an assignment. It's going to happen.

Seeing these defensive miscues makes me appreciate why Dawn plays basically the same defense every game with little variation. We could have played zone against Auburn, for instance, the entire game--Auburn can't shoot--but she's looking to develop team chemistry for the defense she's going to run against elite teams.

Oregon State team is putting it all together and they have a lot of size. They just may come out of nowhere and take that conference championship. I don’t know who wants to play them right now .
They have 2 players on their team who were ranked ahead Ashlyn Watkins in the 2022 class. So the talent is there. They still have both LA schools and Stanford left to play, all at home.

btw, Ice Brady was also ranked ahead of Watkins by ten spots.

It’s time to give UT some attention as we play them twice in the next three weeks. They play Arkansas tonight so it’s a good chance watch them.

I like Kellie Harper but it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that this is her 20th season as head coach and UT is her 4th school.

Frankly UT could have done better than her but they are stuck in the myth that the UT coach has to come from the UT/Summitt family tree. She has finished 3rd four years in a row but has been less successful than Holly Warlick. Warlick was horrible in game but a great recruiter. Harper is pretty good in game but an abysmal recruiter.

The absolute best they can finish regular season is 17-11 and 10-6 in conference. Even that may not get them 4th place and a double bye in SEC Tournament. They will be a double digit seed in the NCAA’s with little hope of making the sweet 16.

I don’t think Harper can survive this season. She is however a legendary player who is upbeat and keeps saying the glory days are just around the corner.

IF she does survive, what does she come back with? Just 7 players. Recruiting is finished and she signed top 40 guard Kaniya Boyd who is on campus rehabbing, also Talaysia Cooper who is redshirting but that’s all the new blood.

She Will return one starter, Sara Puckett. Solid contributors and part time starters Striplin and Hollingshead. Wynn, who is the 10th player in the rotation. None of these play more than 18 minutes per game. Lastly Strickland who averaged 10ppg last year at Pitt but has played a total of 60 minutes all season.

Harper will need to bring in at least 5 players through the portal. Not just support players
but 2-3 starters. Tall task for a program on the decline.

Now for this year. Harper is 1-5 against the Gamecocks. We are 10-4 over the last 9 seasons. Spear and Jackson are elite scorers. Puckett averages 10 ppg has size but is slow and a liability on D. Key, Striplin, and Hollingshead give them a trio with size. None do all things well, but as a trio they rebound and play interior D solid, with spurts of pretty good. Not a good shooting team from 2 or 3. Generally tough on the boards. Turn the ball over too much. Give up 71 ppg in SEC play. I don’t think they can stay within 20 even at Knoxville.

Iowa didn't lose over poor sportsmanship. You can do almost anything while the opposing team is at the line. We are going to cry over music now? LOL! They lost being focused over getting Clark a record instead of getting the game. Should use it as a reminder to focus on priorities instead of what another program decides to do while your player is at the line.

Bluder also whined, “We have plane to catch!” Really!! You flew charter to Nebraska. The plane ain’t leaving without you.

They may not care who starts since they all play. That’s if they are wanting revenge and are a team working together.
I believe they all want to start. They all want to start for #1! Dawn actually said that Watkins was disappointed she was not starting. But, I agree in the sense that it they share minutes among a bunch of all-stars, and if they are team players, and they are prepared to take the next step, they should in theory be happy. Heck of a job by CDS keeping all of our 5-star egos in check and getting them to believe in the concept of sacrificing for the good of all. Lot of players wouldn't.

Quote from today’s ’Power’ rankings article in ’The Athletic’ :

“The curse of the No. 2 ranking continues. After I waxed poetic on the virtues of NC State’s season last week, the Wolfpack lost their first game at full strength, proving no match for two-time ACC player of the year, Virginia Tech’s Elizabeth Kitley. The AP’s second-ranked team didn’t fare much better, as Iowa had a bewildering fourth quarter in Lincoln and blew a 14-point lead to the Cornhuskers. Colorado didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to move up; the Buffaloes were down by 25 at home to Oregon State before mounting a futile fourth-quarter comeback.

Perhaps the second-best team in the country is the one that sits on South Carolina’s bench”

Happy Monday Gamecocks.
That's what they said about John Wooden's UCLA Bruins.

I can’t help but feel bad for T Cooper. I just don’t see them being good at all next year. Clearly high level transfers have to see the writing on the wall for Harper as well. I would be shocked if she is able to assemble a tournament team for next year if she makes it to next season.

I believe the experience Dawn had coaching the Olympic team has really helped her coach our roster. Twelve players!! Everyone of them in the top 40 players in the world. Everyone deserved to start. She articulated that personal glory wasn’t the goal, Gold Medal was.

Earlier this year Chloe was asked about starting over Watkins. She said something to effect, “Ashlynn being on the bench motivates me, because I know she is coming for MY job every day. I HAVE to work hard every day.”

This team is so competitive and in a good way. I got to get better, do better because my teammates are getting better. Every challenge this preseason and season has been taken on.

That's what they said about John Wooden's UCLA Bruins.
Yet he customarily played only seven, eight at the most, unless they were way, way ahead late in the game. No portal and transfers had to sit a year back then.

But he didn't deceive anybody, either. Everyone knew how he was. He even said so in his book.

The Picks

UCONN Gamecocks✔️✔️✔️
Too much D, too much speed, too much size, too much depth. If KC were in town I would predict a beat down. We win but I am clueless on margin

Vanderbilt✔️@ UGA
Vandy gets out of their slump at the dawgs expense

AUBURN✔️@ Mizzou
Mizzou is dreadful and appears to again be without Haley Frank.

UF @ Miss st✔️
Miss St is better and just tougher.

LSU✔️ @ Bama
I want to pick Bama because they are playing well and I hate LSU. But the Barbies have made the change at PG and played better

A&M✔️@UK
A&M rights the ship against a bad UK squad

Ark @ UT✔️
all the metrics and stats say UT, but having picked them that means that Ark will win. I am
1-9 in picking Ark this season
Went 6-1. EVEN picked Arkansas correctly. Really bad Arkansas showed up tonight. Down 63-37 to start the 4th

Protocol is visiting team speaks first. They played music when Iowa shot free throws. I've never heard of that before. I don't think she was being petulant over a blown game. What about our own coach and her irascible nature?

Why didn't she complain about the music during the game? Why was she not ready to go first? Bluder acted like a petulant child and should be ashamed. Dawn has nothing to do with Bluder's conduct. You seem to want to ignore one's actions while crucifying the other. Wonder why that is?
