This is the kind of trash that needs to be policed by the mods.
Meh…. I think The thread has rather organically and unofficially taken the stand that ignoring him hurts his ego worse than anything the mods could do.

He knows his WBB, especially recruiting. He loves The Gamecocks just not DS’s politics.
He is traveling to see us play UT tomorrow night, it’s the closest game to him this season. He will wear Garnet and Black tomorrow and cheer loud enough to make UT fans even more forlorn. No need to whack him around

The only people making the University look bad is people like you. If the game was that important to BYU maybe they should have signed a contract. People cancel games all the time, please get a life. We've cancelled a game with UConn, Stanford and UNC have cancelled games with us and life have moved on fine. It's been like 18 months please let it go.

That is just so rich.

As long as he whacks Coach Staley I think he is fair game to be whacked. He should go see Clark and Bluder since he seems to think they can do no wrong. Should stop in to see BYU too.

Here's another article out of Knoxville. Whew, lots of doom and gloom.

https://www.knoxnews.com/story/spor...ball-dawn-staley-kamilla-cardoso/72539419007/
The writer says that Cardoso is our only player who can matchup with the 6-6 Tamari Key, but Sakami Walker is 6-5. I think Dawn might give Walker some run in the 1st half. She said today that Cardoso is going to start but might be on a minutes restriction. I assume we want Watkins to play more 4 than 5 in this game because we want her matched up against Rickea Jackson. Of course, Feagin will also get some minutes at the 5 as well. UT plays 3 capable bigs, but none are particularly fleet of foot. All our bigs are faster getting up and down the court than theirs, so I'm sure pushing the pace is a point of emphasis for us.

Thursday THE PICKS

Gamecocks✔️✔️✔️@ UT
Cardoso is angry about the Olympics, Swatkins is angry about not starting, Kitts is angry people are saying she shouldn’t start. I think that anger gets vented on UT. UT People are preparing emotionally for a beat down. Of UT’s last 6 games Gamecocks X2 plus LSU. 3 beat downs and no way Harper survives. Coaching for her job tomorrow. Doesn’t matter beat down dead ahead.

OM ✔️@ UF
UF has played well after a 1-5 start winning 3 of their last 4. They are trying to get out of playing on the first day of SEC TOURNEY. Still no Kyle but Broughton is back and playing well. Matharu and Correa off the bench is quite a punch. OM D is sticky and gums up the game for the W. They are in a battle with UT and State for top 4 seeding

UK @ Auburn
Auburn also trying to escape to the middle. UK needs a win to avoid 3 way tie for the cellar. Welcome to the cellar UK, there is no wine down there.

Vandy @ A&M✔️
Vandy has had a successful season already but they are in full swoon. They have lost 4 of 5 with the win, a nail biter vs cellar dwellers UGA. A&M has been a disappointment. Gut check time for both teams if they want post season. Tougher team wins. In a rock fight A&M

Finally, someone gets it...I'm tired of her politics.....Just coach basketball and recruit across the full spectrum of players that are ranked highly....all I've ever said is before Chloe hit the scene was why has there never been a white girl on the team that has started for Staley?...especially when we are getting ready to have a White girl win the Dawn Staley award 4 years in a row. White girls are starting to show up in large numbers on the ESPN Gurlz Hoops and the next WNBA draft, there a possibility the top 4 taken will be white girls, that is all....

Just observations, politics, and opinions.

Yes, winsoleortie may get your argument. I think a lot of people do. However, it doesn't mean that your arguments make any sense. First of all, there is only one Caitlin Clark. She goes to Iowa. So, that white girl is out. After that, did you ever consider that the white girls who would even approach the level capable of starting at a program like South Carolina is limited in number and have other viable options with even more experience than Dawn has. Before Boston, if there was a Top 25 recruit that was considering Geno, Dawn, or Tara Van DerMeer, they were probably going to choose Geno or Tara if they weren't local (Aja Wilson, etc.). Then, if the politics bother the recruits' family like they do with you, that brings in another complication. So, for you to try to put this on Dawn is tired and just an excuse to say you don't like the woman. Further, Dawn had two white players on her roster over the past five years. Everyone on here would laugh at you if you thought they deserved to start. Finally, it's sort of disingenuous to have a problem with Dawn about race when you are being up front about your desire to have a white player start just because she is white. Isn't that a little racist too? I don't know about you, but I would not care if Dawn had Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers at Guard, Elizabeth Kitley at Center, and Cameron Brink at one of the forwards if that team brings back a National Championship. Sorry, I couldn't think of a White Wing that would play up to the standards that we need, but someone feel free to chime in to prove my point. The point is to win, period. It is so late 1960's or 1970's to be talking about the racial makeup of a team. Yes, that occurred in the past. I lived during that time when people used to say you couldn't start 3 Black players if you wanted to win. That's why Don Haskins purposely started five Black players in the 1966 National Championship game. He did it to blow torch the stereotypes and just go out and play the best players to win a game. So, if this is so important to you. I want you to go down the list of Top 25 HoopGurlz. Find the White Players that play our style of man-to-man defense and give our basketball office a call about them. I am sure they probably have already made contact with that player or her family if they meet the above criteria. That's a better way to go about it then just making noise on a message board about something that you cannot prove in fact.

No, I don’t get it. I agree with how Dawn runs her life and her program and politics. I said previously your statements on race were wrong headed at best. Do not mistake my saying that you are a Gamecock fan as endorsement of your social attitudes.

The isolation you feel on this thread is of your doing. I said you needed to consider walking back or disavowing some of your statements. You refused and said you would not be silenced. You dared people to speak up if they disagreed with you, well guess what they are.

I simply said ignoring you totally was a better way of dealing with your tired, wrong headed vitriol rather than piling on. I am not your ally but I also have no desire to bully you or see you as less than.

I have zero isolation on this board. I'm in different threads responding to folks. I'm much bigger on other forums (I'm pretty big on this one). I don't have to defend myself. If one talks politics, I will talk politics. If someone wants to talk recruiting, I will talk recruiting. If someone wants to talk race, I will talk race. If someone wants to talk UT/Carolina, I will talk with them and be glad to meet them at the game tomorrow nite as fan on another board is wanting to meet.

It's called opinions, observations, ribbing, banter. Satire is something I've stayed away from, as I'm honest with my opinions, observations, etc.

You know we are tired of your politics. You have been on Uconn boards praising CC and Iowa and it seems you praise them more than you spport the gamecocks. Just get you a gold and black sweater and then you can support and cheer for a coach that represents you as you say. We are good over her with our coach. DAWN STALEY!!!!

I had to respond to this. OMG isolation? The joke then is on you. You must be on this thread AND forum only. I'm on many forums.

Ally? PLEASE...I don't need an ally. I have many of the longest running threads on several boards. Most of the people on National WBB boards won't come here. Many that used to come here won't come back because of certain posters (you included)...I won't out them but check out the other boards where Gamecock's WBB is being talked about.

My goodness, I almost want to feel sorry for you. If this thread is all you have, I'm so happy I created the longest running thread on Gamecock Central for you to be a part of as well as others. I have some great memories from the early days of the thread. But as it has grown along with the program, newer folks would then join in and have opinions, observations different from mine, which I find refreshing.

But I as well some others who don't post here anymore, feel like it's tainted politically. As I've always said, I love recruiting, ribbing on gamedays, and general banter which will keep me posting for hopefully as long as I've been a member of Gamecock Central (2002).

And I'm glad for you winlosetie, you have a place to come to. And yes, you don't have to be an ally. (I don't need one);)

I really enjoy this group more than any site I have visited. Let's not allow any one person to ruin it. Most adults have deep seated opinions that won't be changed by arguing so best to move on and ignore. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowd tennessee brings. Apathy seems to have set in for a lot of them but we always draw a crowd. Go Cocks !!!

Amari Deberry didn't score a point. She has to rank as one of the biggest bust in recent memory. I'll be shocked if she's there next season.

Best I can tell, you are the one wanting to bring up race and politics and interject it into this thread. Without reviewing all 7,305 posts in the thread, it seems other posters might respond but they do not bring it up.

Thoughts on Tennessee:

* I think the Vols are the 3rd best team in the SEC. They have lost 3 road games, but they have also won 3 road games, including @ Auburn and Mississippi St. 2 places where LSU couldn't win. It isn't easy to win road games. And I don't think this will be an easy one for us. I expect a challenge.

* UT's biggest issue has been on the defensive end. The starting guards are not particularly good defensively. They have big posts who can make points in the paint difficult for opponents, but outside of the paint they don't help much. Look how much space Key is giving up on this screen.

USCE1.JPG

* Our guards need to continue to be aggressive like they were against UCONN. If UT's bigs are not going to leave the paint, then our guards should be able to get plenty of open looks.

* I expect Jackson and Spear will get their points tonight, especially in the 1st half. The Vols are going to need someone else to step up, if they're going to win this one. They don't win many games with their defense, so they need scoring.

* The matchups on Rickea Jackson should be interesting. Obviously, Ashlyn Watkins will be on her quite a bit. I think Chloe is a better help defender than on-ball defender, but I expect she'll draw the assignment as well. As talented as Jackson is, she has one of the highest turnover rates in the conference. If we can get her to put the ball on the floor, we have a chance at a turnover and a transition opportunity.

* Not to sound like a broken record, buuuut rebounding will be a key, especially for the Vols. They must win that battle.

I thought the same thing last year but she still stayed. So unless she graduates early, I think she stays. She's a junior and I have seen some flashes from her in previous years. But I think he broke her confidence. She seems to play like she scared to get benched again.

Scholarships could be an issue next season if UCONN adds Strong or if any of their seniors return. I don't think Geno would overtly pull her scholarship, but he might suggest she move on. Regardless, looking at that roster, I don't see her getting much playing time.

I have never understood Geno’s unwillingness to play his bench in blowouts. He seemed to enjoy putting up ridiculous margins with starters in the game. Now Granted I have seen some very very ragged 4th quarters in the CLA. Quarters where 30 point leads get sliced by 10 or so.
And as is so Dawn, even when the bench is playing bad she doesn’t call time out or put starters back in the game. Players have to figure it out in a non practice environment.

It does so much good. You get to in the game, practice can never duplicate that. Coaches get film to coach you up. Dawn learns who she can trust. We have heard her say, “Show me you can run the offense and not blow defensive assignments. Do that and you get more opportunities to play.”

Just throwing this out there but.... If Paige Bueckers decides to go pro, which may do so, would Fudd transfer due to bad history at UConn with multiple injuries(not UConn fault) but maybe wanting a new place and forget all that bad luck. Maybe transfer here? She had us as a top choice out of high school. If healthy she would be another awesome three point shooter. She ultimately picked UConn due to friendship with Bueckers.

I'm pretty sure Edwards is gone for the pros and Geno had already alluded to this being Griffin's last year after getting hurt. Geno has made it clear that Amari and Ines won't play but to be fair he generally only plays 6-7 players tops even on a fully healthy team so their scholarships might not matter. I do feel like he's getting closer to retirement with every post game conference I hear. He seems out of it and the lack the fire he used to.

DeBerry is an odd duck and I mean this in the most complimentary way. She is everyone’s best friend on the team. They all say she is the smartest woman on the team, that she knows everything about everything. Everything interests her. You get the impression she has a large life and that while she loves basketball, life is far too interesting to just bounce a ball.

NAILED IT!

When Chloe is in the game I think she guards Puckett and Breezy is on Rickea. Ashlyn obviously takes her turn on Rickea.

Key was never mobile but even less this year. She plays like she has an ankle monitor that report a parole violation if steps outside the lane.

my prediction for UConn - Paige stays. Edwards leaves. Fudd is UConn thru and thru and has already announced she is returning. Where it gets interesting is what does Muhl and Ducharme do and does Griffin return. Ducharme wants to return, but if she was my kid, her career would be over. but she's probably going to give it another go.

For Griffin, all indications prior to her injury was that this was her last year. It seems now she is planning on returning due to any draft prospects she had taking a hit from her ACL tear. for the bottom of that roster, I think Geno is rather pointedly directing his comments in the press about not playing back-ups, etc. to both Bettencourt and Deberry and that it may be time to move on to free up some space.

One thing is for sure, if everyone decides to come back, they are looking at one heck of a roster crunch for next year. that is probably one of things Sarah Strong will be checking on if still seriously considering UConn - see how things shake out with that roster after the season ends regarding who's staying and who's going.

Looks like Tenn. is going to load up on another tough OOC schedule next season as well. Also, with Iowa playing in this, is this a sign Clark is coming back? Personally I would think so.

Some interesting numbers on Jewel Spear in conference play:

4th in Player Efficiency Rating
4th in 2 point percentage (60%) and 7th in 3 point percentage (43%)
1st in Points Per Play
1st in Offensive Win Share
1st in Player Offensive Rating

Honestly, she's been a much better offensive player than Jackson this season. I think Dawn will be hesitant to put Paopao on her. So either Bree or Raven get the assignment. Generally, coach likes Raven on the opposing team's primary ball handler, so she will most likely defend Powell imo.

she can definitely shoot but her defense is terrible. Hopefully, whoever she is guarding is on and can take advantage to offset any offense she generates
