I thought it strange that A&M vs Nebraska starts at 9:30 Nebraska time, but I guess they didn't want a conflict with the A&M vs Nebraska men's game tonight.

So for the gurus? @winloseortie or @DarkCock. Thoughts about the matchup Sunday with UNC?

Obviously, they can match us potentially on the boards. Something tells me we will have a much better game against them the second time around.
Thanks for your confidence in my opinion but in reality I’m just a geek who keeps up and has a loud mouth. I prefer swami by the way.😊

It’s two different teams than the ones we saw in November.
Injuries. UNC has lost starting PG Kayla McPherson and first guard off the bench Paulina Paris.

UNC now has no true PG and no backcourt bench. In fact they have no real scoring productive bench. Teonni Key, Tamari’s sister, gets the most backup post minutes. Pretty good defensively. She has put up some nice offensive numbers but only against the bottom feeders on the schedule. Anya Poole also gets frontcourt minute and even less of an O threat than Key.

Typically Banghart uses the rest of the bench the last minute of the quarter to steal a little extra rest.

Ustby, Deja Kelly and Donarski are the heart of team. They play 35 minutes a game. We can take away Donarski. Kelly can take over a game. I think can wear her down. Ustby is quite simply a pain in the a$$. Relentless and very crafty rebounder. Runs the floor extremely well. Good passer. She is also the quintessential hustle and garbage player. We must stay on top of her every play. Gakdeng is like so many OK post players, looks really good against the smaller posts and just disappears against the big gurlz.

UNC was the first good team that understood who we were AND had a plan. We only really played the starting 5 and Watkins against them. Those were the only ones Dawn trusted in a tight game. Famously Lay made 2 consecutive defensive gaffes(she lost Donarski for 2 open 3s, she only scored one other basket the rest of the game.) and was grounded the rest of the game. Our bench is much longer now.

UNC started the game 10-16 and had an 11 point lead. They finished 11-51. They out rebounded us 41-35 and got way too many O boards. We outscored them by 19 the last 28 minutes.

I think we’ve seen their best shot in their place with a raucous crowd. Play D, rebound and never lose sight of Ustby.

On a side note, Dawn rode the team really hard yesterday. Any mistakes and she was in their ear. If you just watched Dawn without the scoreboard, you would have thought that we were fighting for our tournament life. She knows what we need to bring Sunday.

Several people predicted the Louisville/Middle Tenn game might be closer than some think. So that wasn't a shocker. I was very surprised to see LSU struggle, in what should have been a blowout. I agree with @CockyGirl, if Flau'jae had been suspended like she should have, LSU would have lost. I was at our game so didn't get to see that game but maybe (hopefully), the article that's supposed to come out is creating a distraction. Kamilla's revenge

Before discussing North Carolina, let's take a look at the stats from the PC game.

USCE4.JPG

Chloe Kitts scored 21 points on 9 of 9 shooting. She also grabbed 13 rebounds. We were +13 with her on the floor.

Tessa Johnson scored Zero points on 0 of 7 shooting. Zero, zilch, nada. We were +49 with her on the floor. +49!

You may be asking, how is that possible? It's because Chloe played most of her minutes with Sakima Walker. To only be +5 in 17 minutes against Presbyterian is not good. It's not like she's out there with Enya Russell and Wesolek either. All Walker's minutes were with regular rotation players yesterday. Our offense ground to a halt when she was out there. Look, she's fine for the 10th player on the team. But no one plays their 10th player meaningful minutes unless absolutely necessary. Hopefully, that will be the case going forward. Things are about to get real serious.

The announcers said yesterday that Paopao was set to go to TCU before she got a call from Dawn. Wow. That might be common knowledge, but it was the first time I heard she planned to be a Horn Frog. Put the tweet by the current Oregon assistant who made accusations about tampering in a different light. I thought she was throwing shade at our coaching staff. However, considering Sedona Prince went to TCU, I think that must be the coaching staff she referred to. TCU's coach is a former Oregon assistant, btw. Even without Paopao, he brought in 7 transfers last season. Their season turned into a bit of a trainwreck; they were forced to conduct tryouts mid-season. Paopao avoided a disaster.

What I deduce from that is that we have a couple of people we need to expend before next season.

Looks like winloseortie already went over the matchup in detail. I will just emphasize that the depth issues of this current North Carolina team makes them a different team than the one we faced early in the season. In the two previous games before yesterday, Indya Nivar came off the bench and Utsby started at the 3. Will they go back to a big lineup tomorrow? I'm guessing with our ability to push the pace in transition, Banghart will stay with Nivar for defensive reasons. Offensively, Nivar doesn't give the Heels very much.

With Kelly playing the point, Raven will be matched up against her. In the 1st game, Raven defended the point guard. It's going to be tough for Kelly to be the primary scorer and the primary ball-handler against a player like Raven, who is known for applying tremendous ball pressure.

Considering that UNC only scored 59 points yesterday, despite a significant height disparity, it's unlikely they're going to light up the scoreboard tomorrow. We need to take care of the basketball and don't give them easy transition baskets. We need to make them work in the half-court. Of course, we must take care of the defensive glass as well. I think we'll score enough points to win, if we just play our usual defensive game. It might not be pretty--it will most likely be an ugly defensive battle--but all that matters tomorrow is winning and moving on.

I'm old enough to remember when we trailed our 2nd round opponent with less than a minute left in the game and we went on to win the tournament.

Well, one has already been expended.
Yes, I didn't even consider her since she has entered the portal. She reminded me alot of Eniya Russell. I think both could have developed into a role player for us but probably would always remain buried on the depth chart. Jah started off with alot of promise but as the season progressed and her minutes dimished, she didn't seem to play in our system. Took too many ill advised shots instead of working the floor for the best shot. Russell did the same.

Didn't Walker get some huge honor last year? National JUCO player of the year? Maybe MVP of the national JUCO tournament? She would (1) have to stay another year, and (2) make some huge strides to see any quality minutes next year.

Thought Jah had some potential. Jah seemed to be pressing when she got in the games as her playing time went down. I compared her to Cooper who Xfered to TN. Both had some potential, but both would have been buried on the depth chart. Going to be interesting how Cooper does at TN this coming year.

This story must be quite damaging for this reaction.

Doing what bullies always do when confronted, play the victim.
