UCONN ain’t winning. It’ll be SC vs Iowa or State vs Iowa.
Stranger things have happened. I want to see how Iowa responds as the hunted (favorite). Also, it is about time for Geno to win a big game some kind of way. Hope it's not against us.

That's a joke.
I don’t think so. UConn’s 4 guard lineup will not be punished for their lack of size by Iowa. Their team speed and quickness will be a benefit on D. Iowa has no real depth which is a relief for UConn. Aaliyah Edwards will be the best and biggest big on the court. This is a much more favorable matchup for UConn than us or LSU.
Also Geno is a rather smart an adaptable coach

Thought this was interesting. UNC has had several jump in portal and with their 2025 PG reclassifying rumor is that Deja not coming back for her 5th year
3 backup bigs who were destined to even less playing time with Toomey back healthy and Thomas coming on campus

I’m not saying y’all are wrong, but this is the same team we destroyed without KC earlier this season. If that same UCONN team can keep it close with Iowa, and even win, then I am baffled as to why people would be worried at all that we could lose to Iowa. Regardless of how we look right now.

Our style of Offense, Defense and Depth punished UConn at their very specific weaknesses. Iowa doesn’t play D, they are not a low post offense and they do not have depth.

Not saying UConn will win, just that Geno has the right pieces to scheme Iowa. He does not have the pieces to scheme us.

Indiana beat Iowa by 17. The Hoosiers are comparable to UCONN in style, with Bueckers and Edwards being better than anyone on Indiana. And, yeah, Geno can coach a little.

Joyce was diving for the ball with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter of an All-Star game. Her team up 25.

She reminds me of A'ja: too quick and athletic for bigger post to defend; at the same time, too big for smaller athletic post to defend.

I guess McDaniel on the bench in uniform must mean her recovery from her injury is progressing swiftly. But I'm not a doctor, so what do I know?

Anybody worried that the NC State game will be a highlight reel for a former player (Rivers)? The Gamecocks like to give former players record performances (Couisnard).
I am. But I wonder. She seems pretty high strung. That can work for and against her. When she was here I think she hit one three all year but was invaluable in the tournament. She’s a great passer and defender and can score on the drive and now she can shoot a bit. She can get across the court in about three steps and jumps center for NCSU. She will be a handful I think.

Friend of mine, also big Gamecock fan, watched the McDonald's All American game last night. He told me the co-award for Edwards and Strong was basically a gift for Strong. He tells me there was no comparison as to which player is better overall and we got the better end of the deal. I watched some highlights and Edwards is going to be special at SC as well. I realize it was just one game but she has talent and athleticism, and being in Staley's program will build on that and create a really good player. JMHO

I think Strong is going to either UNC or Duke. Maya Moore is her favorite player, but if she's going to UCONN, why wouldn't she have already announced? The length of this decision makes me think she's deciding between 2 nearly identical options.

Can this week go by any slower????? I am heading to Cleveland on Friday. Anyone else?

And to tack on to Strong and her decision, I've seen on another board where they interviewed her and she had somewhat of a slip up about wanting to stay close to home and then back tracked a little. Has everyone thinking she's staying in NC. If I had to choose I would want her at UNC over Duke or Uconn.

I still hate she won't consider playing the 3 for us. Maybe Joyce got in her ear this week ;)

Here Edwards is defending Shaquille O'Neil's daughter, who has the height advantage on her. But Joyce uses her superior athleticism to beat her down court in transition.

She is so mature physically (and mentally) that I see her playing a good bit at the 5 next season. She will not be easy to dislodge, even as a freshman. I think Dawn may prefer Chloe and Watkins and their slender frames at the 4 to navigate around screens. All the other teams in the Final Four have a stretch 4. UCONN doesn't even start a 4, tbh. It's the way the game is tending. Edwards will play some 4, of course, next year, and probably more as her career goes along.

Just being honest, I would play Edwards ahead of Walker this year if she were on the team. JE may give up some size in comparison, but makes up for it with her offense and rebounding.

great points - Joyce was always the must have recruit for this class

Watch Angel Reese on both these plays? Who is she guarding?

LSU4.JPG

Drop coverage on Caitlin Clark? One of their expensive assistant coaches was the defensive coordinator under Vic Schaefer at Miss State. Was that really the game plan he came up with or did Reese decided on her own not to hedge those screens?

The only reason I can come up with is Mulkey was concerned about foul trouble. Maybe she thought they could outscore Iowa if her big 4 could stay on the court. HVL and Poa were offered up as sacrifices. I can't believe HVL would return to this team. She needs a fresh start.

@DarkCock

Is it just me or does Kim Mulkey just have a very weird relationship with HVL?

Mulkey had to know either before HVL arrived or very shortly after she arrived that she was not a PG. Yet she plugged her in and praised her play. In OOC there were no hiccups because of talent discrepancies except Va Tech. Mulkey yanked her after Amoore beat her off the dribble SIX STRAIGHT TRIPS.

Mulkey was just all over the place, one minute praising her, the next yanking her. She would make excuses about how it is a long process to learn the nuances of the position and then say she has got to do better. Toy with Poa at PG and then just set HVL up with defensive assignments where she was just overmatched.

HVL didn’t really help the situation. Look at pics of her last season and then this season. She put on weight …. Not muscle. And her attitude of I’m a great PG Already, L’ville just never let me show it.

Compare to Paopao and DS. TeHina knew she would be primarily a SG with some PG, responsibilities, that she had to get in better shape and play better defense.

Even if HVL stays in college I think she needs a divorce from Mulky

Plus, this is just hilarious

Yeah it’s so strange. I think Mulkey was so used to being able to plug portal players in at PG that she just assumed this experiment would work as well. She was too proud to admit this experiment didn’t work. HVL would be crazy to come back to LSU next year in my opinion.

latest clip from Maxpower247. Once again he’s an Notre Dame fan. cool to see a non-Gamecock WBB fan give an outside & positive opinion on the team by revisiting his pre season outlook for the team & where they stand today.

Now let’s finish.

I was going to make the same point. Mulkey doesn't value the point guard position very highly. Alexis Morris wasn't a traditional point guard. She was definitely a score first guard. Just a continuation of her time at Baylor. Mulkey has undeniably been successful, so I guess she assumed it would work with HVL.

In Paopao's interview I do like that she saw her transfer here in terms of a chance to work on a weakness, defense. If HVL wants to play point at the next level, she needs to find a coach who can develop her.

Same for Fulwiley in her career, undefeated in games played….she needs more minutes in the final four…..my Lord I get that she is a bit inconsistent offensively at times, mostly because she has to produce in so few minutes imo, but her defense and rebounding/assists are still elite per minutes played and she has eliminated her turnovers. Besides, no team can guard her….let her play. She leads the team in points per minutes played by a wide margin…she is the one player opposing teams don’t want on the floor.

Here's the shot that got her in the doghouse:

USCE7.JPG

Coach was upset because she wanted to go deeper in the shot clock, unless there was a good shot available, and a contested 3 pointer isn't that. Fulwiley didn't play in the 4th.

Hopefully, there's a reset for the Final Four and Fulwiley will play more. In general, everyone on the team needs to make more of a concerted effort to get the ball into Cardoso before taking a perimeter shot. Inside-out is how we work best. Cardoso is shooting 63% in the tournament, so opposing coaches would love nothing better than for us to shut down Cardoso by not getting her the ball.
