Coach Yo is getting roasted on social media for hiring Syracuse's old coach.
AD Keith Carter should have seen this coming. He should have saved Coach Yo from herself on this.

Cardoso was one of the 12 players that left Syracuse. All 12 left before Syracuse did any investigation. Obviously something besides playing time and extra running was going on.

Hillsman has never spoken about what happened. I understand that NDAs are probably involved.

This is a hire that you just can’t announce with no explanation.

Yeah, let's hire the CEO who just bankrupted and destroyed his previous company.

ESPN only has 10 players ranked and there another 15 P6, I’m including Big East, who average double figures and would start at most any school they choose. My guess is there will be about 50-60 impact players in the portal.

They have proved they have talent. Now it is about fit, which is a two sided conversation

Friend of mine, also big Gamecock fan, watched the McDonald's All American game last night. He told me the co-award for Edwards and Strong was basically a gift for Strong. He tells me there was no comparison as to which player is better overall and we got the better end of the deal. I watched some highlights and Edwards is going to be special at SC as well. I realize it was just one game but she has talent and athleticism, and being in Staley's program will build on that and create a really good player. JMHO
Strong is the better overall player, there isn't much question at all to anybody that knows basketball. She has a pure jump shot that is good from the three all the way in to the mid range spots. She rebounds well and has great moves around the rim but few people mention her passing skills which are just as elite as her shooting skills. She also has great handles for a player of her size (she has slimmed down quite a bit in the past 6 mos. but still has a PF body type) and once you see her shoot you will understand. She can literally play all 5 spots on the court. Joyce is great, second best player in her class.

could be wrong but am I the only one that thinks the UT coaching hire will ultimately underwhelm? all time program, yes, but we‘re a long way from 2008. I mean they’re talking about Brenda Frese right now over there on lady vol chat .

since they missed the boat on Kenny Brooks waiting for Harper’s buyout to drop, it’s gotta be Kara Lawson or Jeff Walz or bust. but not sure either of those could bring them the back to the glory they demand, expect, & feel entitled to

A couple of encouraging signs for the weekend:

* DAWN IS NOT WEDDED TO PARTICULAR LINEUPS

The 4th quarter against Oregon State, the teams finished 12-12. We were -8 with Paopao on the court; +8 with Tessa. Everyone else who played was 0. If coach had to decided to "ride or die" with her senior guard, we might be dead right now. Imagine how terrible Paopao would have felt. Instead, she looked really happy celebrating a trip to the Final Four with her bff on the team, Tessa Johnson.

Hopefully, Tessa's play will give coach confidence to put anyone out on the court who is playing well. The players just want to cut down the nets, doesn't matter who plays the most.

Also, coach has started Kitts for 2 games and Watkins for 2 games. I like the idea of trying to matchup from the tip. We are getting off to better starts. We have trailed for 19 seconds the entire tournament.

My guess is Watkins starts tomorrow. NC State always starts big with Mimi Collins and River Baldwin and then goes small later in the quarter. Ashlyn is a good enough defender that she could play against a big or small lineup, but Chloe performs better against smaller lineups imo.

* REBOUNDING

Going back to the preseason, @winloseortie expressed concern about our rebounding in the exhibition against Rutgers. During the season, I mentioned defensive rebounding, in particular, as a cause for concern. We're not bad, we're just not at the level we're used. In the tournament, we're grabbing defensive rebounds at the rate of 73.8%, which is 26th out of 68 teams. So, once again, defensive rebounding is just OK.

Here's the good news: NC State was outrebounded by 13 against Texas (they were also outrebounded by Stanford); Iowa was outrebounded by 18 against LSU; we outrebounded UCONN by 8 in our meeting this season WITHOUT Cardoso. Now, all these teams are solid defensive rebounding teams, but they are definitely not teams that get a lot of offensive rebounds. In the tournament, NC State is 62 out of 68 teams in offensive rebounding rate.

Of course, the Pack have managed to make it all the way to the Final Four without much offensive rebounding, so they are doing a lot of other things well. I'm encouraged, though, if we can play our usual defensive game, they will have a tough time scoring. Hopefully, we can make enough shots that we have more points than them at the end of the game.

We absolutely MUST do a better job guarding three point shooters. We gave up WAY too many threes to Indiana and Oregon St. NC State is pretty good in that regard as well so hopefully, and I am sure she has, Dawn is stressing better perimeter defense

The one thing I would question with Strong is her conditioning. Her body type lends to one that can get out of shape.

Oregon State was 2-11 from 3 in the 2nd half and only finished with 58 points. So I think we did adjust.

We didn't do great about Indiana, but they were the best 3 point shooting team in the nation (39.6%) during the regular season. I tip my hat to them.

State's 3 point success over the last 3 games is thanks mainly to Azaiha James. She is only 5'9, so we can throw multiple guards at her. Hopefully, we can slow her down. I expect Paopao to be on Madison Hayes. She's a capable scorer, but not a player State usually runs their offense thru.

So I'm the only one going to Cleveland???? Wheels up at 545 am. So excited but I would love for someone to calm my nerves about NC State!
Did you buy tickets and book a hotel for the entire weekend? I've always wondered how that works for a Final Four. If Iowa loses to UCONN, what will all those Hawkeye fans do? Go home? Stay for the Championship game? Visit the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame?

From what I've seen from State, and I admit it isn't as much as some of y'all, transition is where those guards make their cheese. That's where they break teams down.

I've seen some replies about running back next year. I don't get it. Why not develop the young point guard they have? She may even transfer if HVL stays at LSU. But we'll see if HVL wants to return.

I have a hotel through Monday. The tickets sold through the gamecock club are for both games but they only have distributed tomorrow nights game so far. If we win, we will receive the ticket for Sundays game on Saturday. If we lose we get $250 back.

I think if we lose I may stick around until Sunday and try and catch an earlier flight home. Hopefully I don’t have to worry about that though!

For those that already have tix for both games I think it will be pretty easy to sell those tix for Sunday.

HVL is dealing with some very hard truths right now about the state of her game. I don’t envy her. For next level she is a short, slow, defensive liability who is trying to master the point position. She has a coach who sometimes supports her but will toss her aside in a heart beat for a better portal option. She needs to get in shape, improve ball handling, get good advice from someone other than KM about next steps

Anjelica Velez is their Fr. point guard. She was a HS teammate of Del Rosario for 3 years. They were a package deal to come to LSU. She was ranked #35 in HoopGurlz. She is small 5’6” and appears to be a good player who overly benefitted from more talented teammates.

She played just over 100 minutes this season with 98% of it being 4th quarter garbage time. Her lack of PT and the competition make her stats meaningless. A good thing for her. She is not a short or long term solution.

Mulkey has got to go Portal and HVL needs to jump somewhere

She should go to UCLA. Kiki Rice is a reluctant shooter. The Bruins need a someone to put up shots. Betts can help offset some of her defensive deficiencies.
