I start from the perspective of a man who has been a Gamecock fan for more than 63 years AND had previously developed a lot of ACC-rivalry-hatred sensibilities. My mindset is shaped by all of it - but necessarily stems from living through that era.
King, I love hearing my dad’s stories about games at the Field House and how much hatred the Tobacco Road teams had for us. Crazy stuff. I’m a little too young myself at 53. But I assure you my dad was happy we beat State tonight 😂

We better not let it be close. Refs will take it from us. UConn ran that same screen action all game and Ref decides to get whistle happy on the last possession. A disappointing ending to a good game. Let the players win or lose it. UConn did have a second chance, but didn’t secure the rebound.

No response was needed...I think we all got what you were saying. Take the jab, and giggle for a moment. 63 years is a long time to be so deadpan.:p

UConn gave us the blueprint. Take away Caitlin’s Right to Left step back jumper and she is not the same player.

This could be the most watched game in the history of the women's NCAA tournament. I thought if IOWA lost it would still be a great matchup but as far as the National audience, Caitlin will bring more viewers. I think this is the matchup the Nation wants.

Since IOWA got it's revenge on LSU, will we get ours on IOWA?

Well, I guess it's official: Saniya Rivers can't shoot. She's 3/4th of the way through her college career after all. Just amazing such a physically gifted player can't develop an outside shot. I really wanted to see the handshake line. Found some video on YouTube of her giving someone a big hug (Dawn, I assume) before cutting away. She seems like a good kid. Hope the best for her, except when playing us.

I feel like this Iowa match up favors us quite a bit, but then again what do I know. Just looking at the personal, they will have an extremely hard time defending us. Sure CC will gets hers and her teammates points at times, but really this game is ours to lose.

Maybe a more favorable matchup, but really? UCONN to win? Come on. I mean, of course it could happen, but there’s no way in a betting world you would think that it actually will happen.
I believe UConn covered and I hope you didn’t bet Iowa. I would much rather face UConn

The key coaching decision in the game: Starting Ashlyn Watkins in the 3rd quarter. She was the only Gamecock play the entire quarter. Watkins was a ridiculous +23 FOR A QUARTER!

We won the paint points 44-20. I believe it was 44-14 against Oregon State. We need to keep getting the ball to Cardoso. She's been the best player in the tournament when on the floor. Highest Player Efficient Rating. She also has the best Win Share per 40 minutes. I'll refrain from saying she's been the best player in the tournament since Clark has played many more minutes than Kamilla. Only one game left in KC's college career, plenty of time for her to rest after Sunday.

I see a lot of backboard use out of Cardoso this year that I wasn't seeing last year. She's closing better than she ever has before.

I rewatched last year's Iowa game, so you didn't have to. 🤦‍♂️

Do you want to see what a box and one looks like? It's hard to get a box smaller than this one.

Obviously, they can't do that tomorrow. They'll have to come up with something different. Maybe they play some zone like Oregon State did, but it's a gamble with the way Watkins is rebounding. Even if we miss the outside shot, the Hawkeyes better get a body on her.

Perhaps most encouraging is the ability to hide Paopao on Marshall. Marshall is a classic 3-and-D player. She doesn't create her own shot and she's too small to get involved in screen action, so she mostly hangs around the 3 point line. LSU was able to hide Mikayla Williams on her. Paopao needs to hit shots, of course.

Honestly, what is Geno pitching over there?
UCONN is like a giant corporation, historically successful, but the offices have a sea of half cubicles and bad fluorescent lighting.
Meanwhile, South Carolina is that progressive young company with free green juice, chair massages, and team building get togethers at Dave & Busters.

Maya Moore is Strong's favorite player. She grew up a UCONN fan. I don't know why all the drama. All this talk about "she can play all positions" may be true on offense, but she can not guard all 5 positions. She will play the 4 and 5 next season for UCONN, unless Geno gets real creative for one player. We'll never know how Joyce Edwards' decision affected her. They would have directly competing against each other for playing time next season.

Whatever. I don’t like it.

It is never cut and dried as the rule is stated. It is subjective and a judgement call. Why didn't the ref staring right at the play not call a foul? Because he used common sense and realized that the "foul" was not egregious enough to penalize the offense.....especially in that game defining moment. The one official robbed us of perhaps one of the most dramatic finishes in the history of women's college basketball. We will never know. I hope that official is very proud of herself this morning!!! Sad....

Right. I think the issue is not whether it was an illegal screen or not; the issue is calling the illegal screen in that situation when other illegal screens had not been called earlier in the game.

Thank you that's my issue. I have seen worse screens all tournament go uncalled, calling that one is ridiculous.

That Reese, she is such a better shooter than Cardoso. Ain’t that right.

Cardoso 40-76 .657 in post season 7 games
Reese 41-107 .383 in post season 7 games
WHOAH! Wait up…I said Reese has a better touch under the basket. Cardoso (last night aside) throws up balls like she’s angry at the rim.

She absolutely doesn't the stats nor the eye test backs that up. Reese literally just throws up bricks in hopes for a foul call or uses it for an offensive putback opportunity. Part of the reason Reese rebound numbers are so high, is because she often throws up poor shot attempts, in the style of Moses Malone.

Iowa better not come out in that raggedy 2-3 zone like last year. We will eat it up. Don’t know why NC State went zone. Yes, Camilla was eating, but they were in the game. You have to put pressure on our shooters this year. Can’t stand there and watch us shoot.
