Iowa better not come out in that raggedy 2-3 zone like last year. We will eat it up. Don’t know why NC State went zone. Yes, Camilla was eating, but they were in the game. You have to put pressure on our shooters this year. Can’t stand there and watch us shoot.
The coach said he should have gotten out of that zone sooner.

I feel like this Iowa match up favors us quite a bit, but then again what do I know. Just looking at the personal, they will have an extremely hard time defending us. Sure CC will gets hers and her teammates points at times, but really this game is ours to lose.
Man, I hope you have a good bead on this.

Maybe we'll be able to get 15-20 million for our championship game with IOWA. Thank goodness it's IOWA we're playing. UCONN-Carolina would get not the eyeballs that IOWA-Carolina will get.

I still can't get over that we only shot 2 free throws in the first 39 minutes of the game. In the 29-6 3rd quarter, NC State was not called for a single foul. On defense, if you ain't fouling, you ain't trying. I'm exaggerating. But they definitely seemed passive last night, defensively. Perhaps concerned about foul trouble. Some of LSU's poor defense against Iowa can be explained by foul concerns imo. With our depth that should not be an issue tomorrow.

IF Paopao, Kitts, Swatkins, Fulwiley, Johnson, Kamzilla, Tessa, and Hall ball out, it could be a 20-point win. We need these ladies to hit their shots! So simple, yet so frustrating.

That call was bad timing. If it had happened earlier in the game, no one would be talking about it unless a key player like Paige or Clark fouled out. I hope they let us play today. The last thing you want is for the officials to over react and start calling touch fouls when they haven't done so the entire tournament. This happened last time we played them. Both Aliyah and Clark were on the bench early with 2 fouls.

Poa +9 in 15 minutes; HVL -15 in 30. Not Mulkey's best coaching job.

Bad feeling about today….. of course I had a bad feeling both times we won the national championship. Help me out..
We all have bad feelings before games. Why wouldn’t we, we are South Carolina Gamecock fans. More times than not we are let down. At least this time we feel we have a great chance to win because the team is really that good, not just one good season. I am nervous but also think of the girls are really dialed in like they were against UNC then they can win running away. Just play smart, no lulls in how to play and take good shots. I think we truly win if all play like they have and Fulwiley has a good game and Kitts can hold onto the ball and make the jump shots. That would make us unstoppable. Everyone else is pretty reliable. Also need Paopao to get hot again but I bet their defensive stopper will be on her all game so we need others to step up from three

I like to think ironically enough we have less pressure. For a team that's 37-0 we have gotten really disrespected with media coverage and everyone is seeing if Clark will get her storybook ending. I believe our depth, our ability to shoot the 3, our posts with midrange capabilities and our rebounding ability should make us a more dangerous team than last season.

I know everyone wants a good game but for once I wouldn't mind a completely dominant game where we control the game from start the finish without having to worry about the officiating. I really want this for Raven and the team in general that most non-Gamecock fans didn't believe in.

5 different Gamecocks hit 3 pointers against NC State....in the 3rd quarter. I tried to put myself in Lisa Bluder's head and ask myself-- how do we defend this team?

I don't think zone is the answer. Absolutely can not front Cardoso in the post. Mulkey obviously told Angel Reese to deny Cardoso position by hook or crook. Probably the best option. Bluder needs her posts to be physical and hope Carolina neglects to run its offense thru Cardoso.

Remember our tip-off time was 4pm Pacific Time. Many potential viewers still at work.
Considering it's a championship game and Clark's involvement plus it's ABC I expect it to be great numbers. I'm surprised we gotten 7 million, the media was so focused on Clark vs Bueckers that they rarely mentioned the other matchup. I saw numerous comments from casuals who didn't even know we were undefeated until after the win with NC State.

saw a clip yesterday of an Iowa player or coach and they mentioned that someone on the Iowa staff has been scouting SC ALL year in what i assume was anticipation of this type of possible postseason matchup. if true, speaks volumes to the respect (& fear) other teams have about facing SC in a big game setting.

For the O game, I agree with several posters that they can’t pack it in the paint ala last year, but I expect them to sag/double whenever it goes inside to KC. obvious key is hitting a couple of threes or jumpers early. the three ball has been our great ‘separator’ all year. games where we shoot well from outside in the first/second quarters are the ones that we are normally up double digits at half. On D, we must GET BACK & pick up half court. Iowa & CC can obviously shoot from deep but they make a lot of hay in transition with easy buckets off misses when teams are lackadaisical in running the floor (cough cough LSU most recent example) .

my hope is we come out as we did against UConn two years ago and set a serious & focused tone early and not look back. Believe.

Go Cocks!

If the officials don't take our bigs out of the game then we will win going away. That is why we lost last year. We have multiple and far better players at every position than Iowa except one. It's pretty simple....

Iowa fan here, I think you guys are gonna kill us, we can't sag this year and cardosa is tough against big teams and we are not a big team. If we stay within 12 or so I'll be happy, we know full well the talent and size advantage you have. Do I want Caitlin to have the story book ending? Of course! But south carolina is ridiculously talented, they remind me of the late 80's early 90's unlv runnin' rebels, at some point there gonna hit ya with that big run. Your girls play really hard but not dirty and I respect that good luck today but not too much 😀

Volnation imploding in 3,2,1...

guess the Dawn Staley to UT after the championship game flowing thru the Volquest coaching search thread fell thru 😂.

Also, note that UT’s new coach lost to UK’s new coach by 40+ two weeks ago in the tournament (& without their best player). Congrats Rocky Top .

Reality check for Vol fans: with Dawn, Mulkey and Vic Schaefer in the conference, no proven winner at a Power 5 school sees UT as a great job. Kenny Brooks will not face the same expectations at Kentucky he would at UT. The expectation at UT is not finishing 4th in the conference.

So I have watched about 75% of Iowa’s games this year. Two things stand out to me. First, when the opposition scores a basket and they are all kinda celebrating or doing the look at me thing, Iowa strikes down court fast, they are trained to send a player down court for those opportunities and in every game they catch the opposition off guard several times, usually It’s a long pass immediately from Clark to Staulkey who breaks first.

Second, all season the player setting the pick for Clark always rolls to the hoop for a loop pass on the pick and roll. When they drag the bigs out of the paint (their game plan) it leaves open lanes to the hoop on those pick and rolls, they used it against us multiple times last time with Czinao. We need to leave a big guarding the rim at all times, or else they will find the passing lanes for layups, it’s what they do.

I think this year’s team is better equipped to win this game, as long as Coach DS is not stubborn again with her defensive sets, if a zone is needed occasionally it should be used, or even a box and one, as well as trusting her best players (Fulwiley) to play well and letting them play because Iowa has no defender that can stay with Lay. She would likely be guarded when in the game by Martin who is a fine player but she would be lost trying to guard Fulwiley. If Lay gets extended minutes in this game she will exploit Iowa. Watkins will benefit from the attention paid to Kamilla, and her defender will be at a significant disadvantage athletically and size wise. Watkins will have a big game if she has her head straight for this one. PaoPao has an easier defensive assignment in this game against Marshall, but cannot leave her open at the three.

SC 78 Iowa 73.

UConn gave us the blueprint. Take away Caitlin’s Right to Left step back jumper and she is not the same player.
This was known for some time. No one has done it. Defenders have been going under the screen instead of over.

It is never cut and dried as the rule is stated. It is subjective and a judgement call. Why didn't the ref staring right at the play not call a foul? Because he used common sense and realized that the "foul" was not egregious enough to penalize the offense.....especially in that game defining moment. The one official robbed us of perhaps one of the most dramatic finishes in the history of women's college basketball. We will never know. I hope that official is very proud of herself this morning!!! Sad....
What these officials MUST REALIZE is people don't attend or tune-in to see them officiate a game. They are not the reason we're watching.

I think, as a rule, these women's (and men's) games have been wonderfully officiated! They have let the players play...players like that. No one wants a parade to the foul line.
