Grant Fisher of the U.S. takes the bronze in the men’s 10,000 meters. Just the third time an American has won a medal in this event and just the second in the last 56 years.

All that running, and these guys look like they could do it again immediately. I get tired just getting the mail. 😞

Today's start of the T&F competition has me thinking of some great performances in past Olympics in T&F. There are no shortage of memorable races. One that I often recall when I think of relays is below (what an anchor leg by Evelyn Ashford):

Sorry for reflecting back on past Olympic races. I have loved T&F at the Olympics since I was a little kid.

I didn't check YouTube, which may have a video of the entire race. The below are the best I've found.

Speaking of past Olympics, who remembers this?

I was walking into the Rose Bowl to watch the bronze medal men's soccer match between Yugoslavia and Italy. A guy in front of me had a Walkman TV. I was able to see a little bit of it on a very small screen on a device that probably cost more than our entire trip.

Is it typical for 100m track semis and finals to be only 1:30 (W) and 1:45 (M) apart? I don’t recall them ever running that close before …

That was awesome. I have to say I really can't distinguish between #3 to #6. They all looked great to me LOL.

LOL. Yeah, the differences can be pretty subtle. Two of the guys (South Korea and Netherlands) fell during their routines, so it's kind of easy to differentiate them from the other guys. Then you have to factor in the difficulty of the routine and the execution. The difficulty is set by what components they do in their routine (each competitor does a different routine). The guys that finished 4th & 5th (Japan and Ukraine) had small execution errors, which the color analyst pointed out.

I think the 3 that medaled (Ireland, Kazakhstan, USA) were pretty clearly the top 3.

I watched a bit of this. These guys were unbelievably good. (Kind of rhetorical statement, as it was Hancock's 4th gold medal in the event.)

Embiid getting mercilessly booed as USA beats Puerto Rico. James, Booker, Holiday DNP.

How’s this for a second team: Durant, Edwards, Holiday, White, Adebayo. Three NBA All-Defense.

Katie Ledecky swims the 800 at 3:26. If she wins it would be the first time anyone has won a single Olympic (swim?) event four times.
