While those individual performances are on the players, and they should be held accountable for it, the fact that it's the best we got is on the coaches. Well coached teams don't miss tackles the way we do. They don't miss opportunities to force negative plays. That blitz off the corner was a perfect call. Should have worked. Crazy that a dude who was a freshman AA last year whiffed that bad.Thank you. I don’t know if they even have group film sessions any more, maybe they just email them individually now or something, but there are three plays I would gather the entire team together and show on repeat:
1. it’s either 3rd or 4th and 13 I think, DL Smith comes off the edge UNTOUCHED, has the UF qb dead to rights, and WHIFS him. QB just stepped out of the way(no moves, no hip, no spin, nothing), and hits a receiver 30 yards downfield. They score that drive.
2. The UF qb throws into double coverage (he’s not particularly good) and Dial has it like it was thrown to him personally; no stretching, no jumping, no reaching. Like it was thrown to him in stride. He of course bumbles it and holds his helmet in his hands dramatically. They score that drive.
3. My favorite: 4th and 11 late. UF qb is pressured (we actually brought pressure, surprise), flushes to the right and hits his bailout guy THREE YARDS behind the line of scrimmage with Dial right on him, dead to rights. Perfect; can’t blueprint any better, except Dial WHIFS the guy. WHIFS. Believe me when I say that is a HIGH SCHOOL DRILL practiced every day. No hip, no move, no spin; the guy just steps around Dial and picks up the first. They score that drive.
NONE of any of that is ‘coaching’. None. That is ALL on the player. Leggette making a leaping catch on the sideline is ALL PLAYER; no ‘coaching’ can do that. Those missed tackles and dropped gimme picks are likewise ALL PLAYER.
They need to be held accountable, and I hope they were.
#3 on your list is one of the worst plays I can remember. They threw it to a TE in the open field to get 13 yards, and he did.
