Noticed Jimmy getting up to speed on CFB checking injury reports , quickly seen ND, and Colorado.

The game referred to was Neb- Tex Oct 16, 2010, Texas won 20-13. Game temp 75 degrees and sunny.

Following week Nebraska beat OK St. 51-41, T. Martinez had 435 total yds. The Okies reference raised eyebrows.
The Okies reference makes me wonder if Paul Blart the mall cop is going to play a role going forward. That wasn’t very subtle.

Carol Burnett will be in multiple episodes so the Jeff storyline is not done. The writers screwed up a little with the Nebraska dialogue because Taylor Martinez would have played vs Big 10 opponents and they referenced Texas, I believe. This places the Gene timeline somewhere between 2010-2013. Thinking back about the BCS season photo of Gene with a half on half off red jacket, it now appears to me that Saul is gonna get caught because Gene can no longer suppress him and he has “jumped the shark” by putting Marco’s ring on again.
Yes but the part I’m talking about is the clothes. I thought the purpose of that was to get Armani suits which he couldn’t afford and give the rest to the crew as payment. Then at the end he was looking at Saul goodman style shirt and tie and yearning for them. Does Armani go with Saul?
So a pretty petty scheme for Saul but I don’t know what angle he is playing with it. Unless as they say it is Gene walking before Saul running full blown scams.

He set up Jeff with the scam to help remove the threat that Jeff will turn him in. In the split screen section of the episode, there was a quick frame shot of a carving in something that said SG was here. Also, the Cinnabon eating head of security is married to Christie Brinkley in real life!!

Frank, the head security man, makes a comment to Gene about Nebraska possibly joining the Big 10 during Jeffie’s clothing run so that puts the timeline about 2010.

I now wonder if we see Walt make a stop in Nebraska on his way back to New Mexico from New Hampshire. Should fit the timeline in BB. Saul did verbalize to him about running a Cinnabon in Nebraska! Watching the episode again and the bumper for the next episode has a car stop at a snowy crossroads! Is this Walt in his 77 DeVille??? Hmm…..

No, Christie is unmarried, I believe..
she played that actor’s wife on Parks & Rec

So a new actor has taken over the “Jeff” role as original “Jeff” played by Don Harvey, had contractual obligations as he was in We Own This City on HBO & couldn’t fulfill his original “Jeff” role. Had me confused at first and thought it was a different guy!

I don't know why shows don't put a brief note at the beginning of the episode alerting viewers when an actor changes. I spent a few minutes trying to remember if he was a friend of the cab driver. Even his vibe was a bit meek compared to the earlier aggressive persona in the mall. A little heads up can prevent unnecessary confusion and make it less jarring.

So listening to the college football dialogue was fun, and I heard "Reggie Ball" thrown out there. I thought it was a mistake because he was a QB at Georgia Tech back when Calvin Johnson was also there. So I went and checked to see if there was a different Reggie Ball at Nebraska. And yes, in 1995 there was a Reggie Baul. My Google search also indicated that there is a Nebraska prisoner by that name and they are the same person. Reggie Baul, former Nebraska WR was arrested for theft and forgery in 2019. I have to believe his name was very purposefully used by G&G

The whole sports talk was way off. Nebraska joining the big 10 came together and was announced in the summer of 2010. There were no games going on, and it definitely wasn't rumors either the year before or that fall. Just an unnecessary gaffe.

Overall, I just didn't like the episode. Seemed like a lot of extraneous stuff to remind people the writers already used Chuck to tell everyone Jimmy cannot change who he is.

I think it highlighted Saul/Gene's ability to still pull off a heist with relative ease and that he is as sharp as he ever was. On the flip side, he spends his nights alone drinking scotch and listening to the police blotter. Something has to give, he's at a crossroads (which we also see from the preview for next weeks show). Also, most of the sports talk was accurate and who is to say that a casual fan would not know the full details on Nebraska joining the B1G in the fall of 2010? This show is all about the extraneous stuff. The writers have set a very slow pace for the show the entire way through and focus on events that shape the characters.

And I can’t imagine this being a standalone episode. Someone mentioned that this isn’t Carol Burnett’s sole appearance; her asking about Nippy the dog and Gene’s blunder about Okies tell me that we’re going to see Gene in an uncomfortable situation.

I read: the picture of the black-and-white Gene with the bright red jacket, we know now that he’s putting it on, not taking it off.

I didn't think the security guard was a casual fan, which really threw the exchanges completely off for me.

I took this as Gene being completely unprepared for football small talk. His whole conversation in the first meeting with big security was very general and obvious BS. He was prepared after that to engage in Husker small talk and minutiae. He did his homework, as always.

I'm watching it again tonight and will check to see exactly how early in the process this occurs.

Speaking of which, BCS completely ruins my sleep on Monday nights.

"Felina" (BB last episode) shown as Sept 4-7, 2010. BCS currently Oct 16, 2010 (Texas-Nebraska game) and beyond, so WW is already dead.

That's interesting because it seems like Gene had established himself at Cinnabon for quite a long time, possibly several years.

Saul arrived at Ed Galbraith’s shop on March 15, 2010.

I like the idea of Walter visiting Saul on the way west from New Hampshire.

That would be in early September, so they would have to backtrack from the current time. I don't see anyway the vacuum guy leaves a clue as to where he puts Saul. IMO, if WW makes an appearance, it would have to be pre-Nebraska.
I'm kind of with Rude on this one. Starting to think a WW cameo was a ruse.

Getting back to Carol Burnett. Kim's mom is from Nebraska. Just sayin.

From BB S5.15:

Saul Goodman: Hey, I'm a civilian. I'm not your lawyer anymore, I'm nobody's lawyer, the fun's over. From here on out, I'm mister low profile. Just another douchebag with a job and three pairs of Dockers. If I'm lucky, three months from now, best case scenario, I'm managing a Cinnabon in Omaha.

This has to be a mistake. The football talk in last night’s episode was very specific and easily checked. Mistakes happen.

Edit: As @Grant Green indicates below, this isn’t necessarily a mistake.

The 2012 tag could be an expiration date. Since many states do 2 year renewal periods, that would work well for 2010.

Yeah, I remember it. Possible, but doubtful IMO. What purpose would WW have to seek him out (probably a number of Cinnabons in Omaha)? He has a very distinct mission in returning to NM.

Yeah, about the 2012 tags. Duh. If he arrives in Omaha in 2010, of course he would have 2012 tags.

Here's the thing about the heist, if Gene was telling the truth about the footage being erased after a few days he loses almost all leverage over Jeff unless Jeff is caught with the goods, which he is likely to unload or destroy fairly easily. How does Gene maintain leverage with little more than knowledge of a few truck receipts? What am I missing here?

It's a good point about the video getting erased, although I don't know where he got that information. At the very least, he bought himself 3 days of solace...enough time to figure out his next move although he already had the opportunity to run, so not sure what's keeping him in Nebraska unless it's Kim related

If this has been brought up, I missed it. S4E5 starts with a flash forward to Saul and Francesca shredding docs as Saul prepares to call the vacuum guy.
Toward the end of the scene, Saul reminds her to pick up the phone on November 12 at 3pm. This must come into play soon. Btw, Nov 12 is Saul's birthday as shown on his drivers license (pretty sure when he gets married). EDIT: I've seen speculation that Kim calls him every year on his birthday.

Fun fact - During the split screen montage, the score being played is "Jim on the Move" by Lalo Shifrin (from Mission Impossible). So clever.

I forgot to respond to this. I had known about the casting change and it was still jarring. The original Jeff was bigger and more intimidating, a slightly scary guy. In casting the new actor, they went for a facial resemblance, primarily, and a lot was lost here. Oh well.

The original Jeff was a formidable threat:

BTW, I thought Carol Burnett was borderline criminally underused playing such a gullible little old lady.

Does BCS return to New Mexico with only three episodes left, or is it all Nebraska at this point?

I've got to believe there is going to be more to Carol Burnett's character than meets the eye.

I can’t see “Nippy” being a standalone episode. I can’t think of Jimmy’s previous gig as an elder lawyer without thinking of Marion’s potential to impact the storyline. Her asking about the dog at the end was not a throwaway line.

That thought crossed my mind, too. She is a long-time resident, she knows the neighborhood. It would be easy for her to shake the grapevine about the Nippy story and compare notes. Plus, her son could have already mentioned the "running into Saul" story to her, although that seems less likely given how the characters have played it out since Saul's game with Marion's scooter. More likely is that she doesn't trust anyone who associates with her son, and did some digging on her own. Her innocence with Saul may be her clever, devious wheels spinning in self-interest. She is someone who initially wanted no help from anyone for anything, yet eventually opened up to Saul and let him into her home. I'm skeptical that that is all from a simple need for a friend at this stage in her life. And Saul may have his guard down after being in Omaha for a few months, and thinking he is handling the one threat he has run into.

With BCS, everything somehow ties to everything else. Looking forward to the wild ride to come, wherever this story line takes us, or doesn't take us.
