Funny, talking to my parents on the phone. They live in PA. My mom was talking all about the women's game against Arkansas last night. She watches every women's game and is always talking about the women. She said "I don't know who to follow for men this year. I used to like Duke when Kryzewski was there, but they aren't good as this year." I said "How about the Carolina men!? We're having our best season in like 30 years."

She said "You don't hear anything at all about the men. Isn't that sad?"

As good as we have been, we aren't getting the national recognition some might think.
I’m not talking about fans that pay more attention to women’s sports than men’s. I’m talking about the people that get paid to follow this stuff.

Yep. We'll never get above low 40s. I think waaaaay too much emphasis is put on OOC. At this point the OOC is pointless. You play 18 conference games. I don't think the committee will pay too much attention to our net. However, for all of the "let the computers decide" people, you will be happy there are humans in the room when it comes to our seeding. We are living proof of why it takes a hybrid approach.
The humans in the room came up with the faulty algo. IMO, better to fine tune and keep any human selection bias out. Make the algo open source and everyone is clear on exactly where they stand and how to improve their status.

All these NET rankings and Quad wins sounds like a bunch of 🐎💩 sometimes. South Carolina is 23-5, pre-season picked last in SEC MBB. We’ve won six SEC road games! Wins over UK, UT, Ole Miss x 2, and MSST. Two bad losses in the state of Alabama, and not so great home losses to UGA LSU. Finally we have been underdogs in most of our games this year. They just keep selling us short in Vegas and on ESPN…

The post you are agreeing with proves that the net has a loose correlation to whether or not a team makes it. We are a national story. LP is a strong contender for national coach of the year. We’re a top 20 AP team. To say the committee isn’t paying attention is laughable.

The NET is NOT the biggest filter. It if we’re, then more too 68 teams would get it. The biggest filter is Q1/Q2 record. You’re not getting in if you can’t compete there. It’s not that complicated.
The trouble is that many of us are not laughing. I have seen many of the bracketology projections and I agree that we seem to be in good shape. But I have seen us get left out when we were in a similar situation so I would not say we are a lock.

According to this explanation at NCAA.com, the NET is the primary filter used to get a workable group of teams to seed. Here is the link and a portion of the explanation. https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketbal...05/college-basketballs-net-rankings-explained

How are the NET rankings used?

Since the NET rankings serve as the primary sorting tool for Division I men's basketball, they play an important role in establishing a team's resume. The men’s and women’s basketball NET rankings and team sheets will be provided publicly on a daily basis on NCAA.com and NCAA.org starting in December.

So the problem for us is that we are currently ranked #47 in the country in the NET. Some teams will get automatic invitations because of winning their respective tournaments. Some conferences such as the Big 12 will automatically get a large number of picks because they have the highest conference score in the NET. Some believe that the SEC may only get 4 picks. There is no guarantee the SEC will get a large number of picks. Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky appear to be locks. After that it gets a little vague because the next team in the NET is Miss St. at 31 and then Florida at 34.

I couldn't agree more that we deserve to be a 7 seed or a 6 seed but I'm not going out on a limb and say we are a lock. If we keep winning there is no question that at some point we have to be a lock. This Florida game will be big since they are the 6th highest in the NET and ahead of us.

I'm not too worried about that. For one thing, there are only about 7 women's teams (and one individual player) who get significant national media attention. And our women's team happens to be far and away the most dominant team this year so I think it's natural that our women's team is pretty well known.

The men's side is different. There are a lot of teams to split the media attention. I think our men are getting their share, and to the extent they aren't, it's probably a good thing that they can fly under the radar a bit.

Ok Dabo. I now believe we should be a lock. It would be tough to keep us out after the Florida win. But we needed that one at home.
