Your part about the "trailer park inbred" employees brought me a chuckle. It's hard to have a debate like you requested in the title if that's the only response lol...

I mean, I guess. But for the life of me, I can't figure out why Clemson grads would raise a toast to our alma mater.Inbreds with missing teeth that skipped a trailer payment to attend a game definitely should not.
Fight me.
IDK.It has always been my firm belief that during the singing of the alma mater, when the words "here's a health, Carolina" are sung, that only alumni, students, & employees of the university should raise a toast. Inbreds with missing teeth that skipped a trailer payment to attend a game definitely should not.
Fight me.
But it's my state school.IDK.
It is petty and pedantic to care about this just because of the lyrics "...when proudly we sought thee, thy children to be" when we could just have every fan raise a fake toast to match their very real mini bottle.
Your attitude reminds me of Duke or the Ivy League, not a state school.
I have one too...and a big one from UT.. From one graduate to another, "GET OVER YOURSELF"....Because it is a privilege, & those are earned.
My diploma is in a large frame. The yellow coat mafia might stop me at the gate if I tried your suggestion. Would be fun to try though. Right before the alma mater is sang, I stand up & loudly state, "You can only raise a toast if you have one of THESE!"
No. You kiss it!You are full of bull. Any Carolina fans should toast them. You just believe you are better than other people. I went to USC 2 yrs and finished at Francis’s Marion. I paid for both my kids to attend USC and they both graduated. So you just kiss it
Pretty sad that a man feels guilty to wear his college ring because he's worried how it'll make others feel.I have one too...and a big one from UT.. From one graduate to another, "GET OVER YOURSELF"....
I want ANYONE who wants to be a fan, give money, attend games, etc to raise a toast and salute proudly. Remember not everyone could/can afford to come to school, make it through the waiting list, or had the SAT or grades.
I NEVER want anyone to feel less than or do I want to feel privileged...
I don't wear my college ring or watch anymore due to feeling pretentious...
Now when I see your threads, I want to bypass them...I don't have respect for the person you described in your post.
This thread has a UNC alumni feel....I feel like I need to take a shower now...
No it's not sad!!!! I feel very comfortable in my own skin which is why I don't have to.No. You kiss it!
Pretty sad that a man feels guilty to wear his college ring because he's worried how it'll make others feel.
I graduated…love my school…. And full disclosure, I thought it said…here’s “to” health Carolina. But I was quite inebriated during college. It has always been my firm belief that during the singing of the alma mater, when the words "here's a health, Carolina" are sung, that only alumni, students, & employees of the university should raise a toast. Inbreds with missing teeth that skipped a trailer payment to attend a game definitely should not.

This................everything else is just worldly pride.I honestly can't imagine anything that matters less. It's not stolen valor.
You worked hard to earn the right to wear that ring. You should wear it with pride. I wear mine 6 days a week.No it's not sad!!!! I feel very comfortable in my own skin which is why I don't have to.
Dude, I am educated, and an accredited investor (look that one up my egotistical friend), owns lots of property in TN, NC & SC.
If you saw me out, you'd think I don't have 2 nickels to rub together...I like eating in diners, driving my prius with 220K miles and my jeep that's 20 years old, hiking the appalachian trail (it's free), having a nice glass of 8 dollar wine, going to ETSU for basketball games even though I did not graduate from ETSU, playing with my frenchie bulldog....oh my gosh, so many great aspects of my life to have THAN have to be worried about people saluting my alma mater who did not graduate from there...
YOU ARE THE SAD ONE MY FRIEND!!! I can't imagine the turmoil you go through at games...just go and enjoy the game, atmosphere, the band and forget about yourself...life is short!!!
If they ask if you graduated tell them no, but you DID FINISHI would imagine I'm probably the only person in this thread that actually lives in a trailer park. I went to Carolina, but I didn't graduate. Probably one of the reasons why this trailer park is the upper limit on my housing choices. I don't do the salute because I fear someone might ask me when I graduated and I would be ashamed to say I didn't.
As someone from a white trash background, I grew up in trailers, but never in a fancy trailer park. But I moved to this one because of my dog. The apartment we were living in before didn't provide enough room fo r him, but now he has a yard with a rusty fence so he can run around. So I have an uncivil, white trash dog too, but he's happier living here.
Hmm, what about the parents who are paying for the tuition ?Hmm
Does an honorary degree count?
How about students who did not graduate?
What about donors who have given large amounts of money but never attended?
What about 5 year olds who go to games with parents who both graduated?
I could concede that one.Hmm, what about the parents who are paying for the tuition ?
You’re a good person. To me the Alma Mater is more for the students and graduates.
I didn’t go to USC. And even though I’m a life long fan and former employee, I wouldn’t care to participate in that sort of thing in it anyway.
You’re a good person.
I agree with your first three lines; disagree on the college ring though. I generally only wear my college ring when wearing a suit, but when I have it on I wear it proudly. A lot of work and effort went into making it possible to earn that ring! It was also a gift from my grandparents, so it's sentimental in that way as well.I have one too...and a big one from UT.. From one graduate to another, "GET OVER YOURSELF"....

Nope. Get the hell out of here! What about a former employee who also was enrolled but never finished?
That “rock ‘n rye idiot” may well be an alumni.Good man.
You had an excellent post until you decided that 1 more sentence was needed. It wasn't
So you're agreeing & also admonishing. Kinda testy too.
I don't think I'm better than anybody. I just hate to see John Q., Rock 'n Rye drinking idiot display poor etiquette & raise a toast when he should not be doing so. It's just always bothered me.
I think you are correct about the fact many of the fans, that are not Carolina alumni, at the football games are just following the crowd.I think a lot in attendance have no clue regarding the words or the toast and are just following the crowd.
Many probably think alma mater is related to the character from Disney's CARS movie!![]()

You are right on, brother. No it's not sad!!!! I feel very comfortable in my own skin which is why I don't have to.

Sir, as a long time Gamecock supporter you tick me off. I have been a Gamecock fans since circa 1960 and have attended a boat load of games and your post makes me feel belittled - like I'm less of an attribute than other people who attended Carolina. I know of someone who played at USC that doesn't attend as many games as I use to attend. I've worked with a number of Carolina graduates over the years who didn't even care about Carolina on any level. So sir, if I'm diminishing the overall Carolina football culture in anyway, I'm very sorry. Please accept my apologies.
BTW, the person I know who played at Carolina has received assistance from the state of NC and that was recently. So, don't go feeling high and mighty.
Disagree. My wife and I are both alumni however I think anyone who wants to raise a toast to our great university should do it. And do it often! It has always been my firm belief that during the singing of the alma mater, when the words "here's a health, Carolina" are sung, that only alumni, students, & employees of the university should raise a toast. Inbreds with missing teeth that skipped a trailer payment to attend a game definitely should not.

Good thinking.I say that anyone who calls themself a Gamecock is more than welcomed to participate in the toast or anything else. It isn't that big of a deal that you should exclude anyone. GO COCKS!!!
Nyck Harbor can now raise a toast during the alma mater.Sir, as a long time Gamecock supporter you tick me off. Based on that summation, there would only be about 10 people at games who would qualify. Carolina is in Chapel Hill, for your info. I graduated from The University of South Carolina. Did you not get the memo about Carolina being in Chapel Hill?Final summation.......if you didn't graduate from Carolina, or aren't currently a student, don't raise a toast. Debate over.
Your credibility on here just hit ZERO.Based on that summation, there would only be about 10 people at games who would qualify. Carolina is in Chapel Hill, for your info. I graduated from The University of South Carolina. Did you not get the memo about Carolina being in Chapel Hill?
