If you’re Chris Rock, are you thinking someone is going to slap you on stage in front of other celebrities and on an international broadcast?
You know I was kidding. Believe it or not, I feel Chris Rock did the right thing. If there was an altercation on stage it wouldn’t have ended well. However, I will say this with respect to the incident. People react differently to a slap in the face or a physical altercation. I’ll go one step further, if there’s no entourage around him or cameras on, Will Smith who has violence issues, will get himself seriously hurt.

Buddy Harrelson? Like the beating he gave Pete Rose in the playoffs?🥴
I was 10 years old and watching the game when the fight happened. My recollection of the fight. Pete Rose and Buddy Harrelson were mouthing off at one another, things got physical and Wayne Garrett had to step in to break it up.

Rose took Harrelson out at second, breaking up a double play. Harrelson gave him a shove and Rose kind of threw him around. At least from my recollection. I’ll see if I can find it.

Reports coming out that the Academy asked him to leave after the incident and he refused. Maybe he really does need his award rescinded and he be banned from the Academy. Again, the priveleged get away with so much stuff it is ridiculous.
That falls on the academy. Someone should have said, "Mr. Smith, you don't understand. We're not asking you to leave. We're saying you must leave because you assaulted someone during our ceremony."

Instead he refuses after they "ask him to leave" and they shrug. Sounds like a pretty feckless academy.

Tough call. Not too long ago we burned half the country down because of George Floyd, can you imagine the police getting heavy handed trying to remove Will Smith and his wife from the Oscars while the cameras were rolling? Unfortunately, this is the new norm.

Bad example. George Floyd was murdered on tape for the world to see. Let’s at least be honest. This was a slap in the face literally. He should have been at least escorted out and then they could arrest him whenever. I still don't see how charges aren't filed with or without Rock's consent.

I’m a terrible writer. Yes, apples and oranges. Yes, he should have been escorted out (peacefully 🙏🏻). But he said “no I’m not leaving”. This leaves law-enforcement with a very very delicate situation. Engage and run the risk of a physical altercation while the camera’s are rolling? If they can’t subdue him do they taser him? Now, I find you to be a very reasonable and fair poster so I have one question for you. If George Floyd never happened would Will Smith have walked on stage and smacked Chris Rock? I say, probably not because the consequences were real. Like you, I believe that Will Smith should have been arrested and charged with Simple Assualt, preferably the next day at his home. However, I’m perfectly fine with this outcome if it means we all live in peace and harmony.

Yeah, they could wait it out and do it afterwards. Even if it was like you said simple assault. I'm still now sure what George Floyd and Will Smith have to do with each other in any way at all. I'm sorry...I just don't see any correlation between the two at all. Will Smith wasn't a victim of anything other than his wife banging his kids friend.

Nothing to do with Floyd.

the academy couldn’t possibly escort him out it was a no win scenario. Whoopie on the academy committee saying smith Oscar will not be taken. They will do nothing.
Some lady came out of a chris rock concert last night and said that rock was so out of touch with gender identity. Lol. Comedians will be a thing of the past soon as everything will be off limits.

There is zero evidence I’ve seen that anyone from the Academy asked Smith to leave.

I agree with raz - no win scenario for the Academy and the show producers; they’re sort of stuck. As for taking away his Oscar, they can’t do it without looking like hypocrites since they’ve not taken anything away from Weinstein, Polanski, etc.

Do mean the George Floyd murder showed Will Smith that it was alright to commit violent crimes against black men?

At certain point though, things change. You can go back through history and find examples of nothing happened when X did this so how can we now do something to Y. Let’s start at the beginning, when Cain killed Abel. He didn’t go to jail, right? So can anybody go to jail now? An obviously extreme example but at some point things have to change. A pompous *** walking on stage at your awards show to slap another man in the face would have seemed like a good time for things to change.

I guess it depends on your definition of evidence. The reports I've read indicated the academy said Smith was asked to leave. Maybe the reports were wrong. Maybe the academy was lying.

Might be - but the podcasts I listen to and are hosted by connected Hollywood types (including people in the theater when it happened) have not reported anything at all about someone in an official Academy capacity asking Smith to leave. The show producers do not represent the Academy (first all minority Oscar producers this year too). Now, reports of publicists, Washington, and Perry all talking to Smith has been widely reported.

They ask him to leave peacefully. When he refused, it should have been made clear that the leaving part was mandatory, it's the peacefully part that was up to Smith. If he still refused, security should have escorted him out, and possibly even detained him until finding out that Rock wasn't going to press charges. There's clear evidence of Smith committing an unprovoked crime, I think it's ridiculous that some are saying that he should have been treated with kid gloves in this situation.

I agree that they won't do much of anything in the end. They are making statements now to defend themselves in the court of public opinion because of the heat this story is generating. They've already said their "disciplinary process" takes weeks to run its course, setting the stage to not take any action for quite some time. Weeks from now the sharks in the water will have moved on and the academy can put out a milquetoast statement saying they reviewed everything and it's been handled, and there won't but much public vitriol.

I respectfully disagree. If Floyd never happened and half the cities in this country were not burnt down to the ground Will Smith would have never attempted to walk on that stage. The consequences and reprisals would have been severe on multiple levels. JMHO

Half the cities in this country have been burnt down? Wow.

Also, you are seriously underestimating Will Smith's ego. Scientology isn't self-indulging enough for that guy.

Its a pretty slippery slope for them (the Academy) it will be tough to take away his Oscar when other's like Polanski, Allen, Weinstein...still have theirs.
The backlash is mounting so I don't think its just going to go away.
IMO they should not allow him to return...ever.
I also think he can kiss any more nominations goodbye.

At least you don't exaggerate. Half of the cities were all burned to the ground? I think he did it because he saw if you don't get your way, you can just storm the Capitol and kill cops. He saw that and said, this is for Murica and standing up for yourself no matter how stupid it may be. That is about how silly your argument sounds. Will Smith did this because he has some issues. Stop blaming other people or using other events which don't have **** to do with a man losing his mind and comparing them. It's disingenuous at best.

I've been seeing articles today which are trying to make this some sort of racial issue about how black women are treated. That's stupid. Alopecia affects all races. The involved parties at the awards incident were the same race. Smith didn't like Rock's joke. He then made an azz of himself by coming onstage and beotch-slapping Rock. That's about the extent of it. Smith may or may not suffer some damage to his career but it was far from being the crime of the century or the huge racial incident some people want it to be.

George Floyd has jack **** to do with what Will Smith did, but no surprise you missed that or probably do agree with it which is more likely. Just stay on the test board in your little own fishbowl group think if you couldn't comprehend this very simple basic point.

Did you read my post or are you just going off half cocked. My post basically said this has nothing to do with anything else like Floyd or the Capitol or cities burning. It has to do with smith being stupid and attacking Chris rock.

You replied with that, but my point in the prior post was that it had jack **** to do with Geroge Floyd and I likened it someone blaming it on 1/6 as that would be just as stupid. If you cannot comprehend this still, I'm not helping you.....seems like everyone else kind of figured it out.

Smith may have derailed his career (for the time being) but he sure did help Chris out, probably not the way he wanted but still...

It would be one thing if you didn't cherry pick with that response....but you did and didn't even give the ooops I was wrong...because you were. It's only political when you don't like it...if you agree with it....it's just fine or you're really that hard up to comprehend and follow a thread.
