Huhhhh, what? Assault is wrong no matter the race. You kind of just outed yourself there though....good job. The fake outrage of "for the children" was a cute touch too. So you're upset it was getting coverage "for the kids", but people minimizing it is also a problem and you then introduce race into this discussion as it wasn't brought up prior to you doing so. Par for the course.

I'm sorry you get so easily offended. If you look at my first comments in this thread you will see I brought it up then. That's OK though, go back to treating minority victims differently and pretending you're not a real racist.

He brought up the minority on minority violence before (not sure if in this thread or another). While that is a component, what's very clearly illustrated by this incident that is bigger than race is the kind of privilege Smith has as a celebrity. He not only assaulted someone in front of millions and walked back to his seat, he was given an award and minutes to talk/defend his conduct not long after. Then partied all night. How many people would get away with that?
Entitled rich people get away with stuff all the time. He won't be the first entitled person to walk away with nothing happening to him. Don't disagree with you for a second, but celebrity also isn't a race. It was a weak out of bounds comment by him IMO, but him going directly to race isn't a surprise either.

So you are the only one really bringing up race here.....it figures. Most that know your handle know what you're about snowflake. Celebrities and rich people get away with a ton of things......and they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Best to your militia in the woods. Let's not forget....it's "for the kids". Clown.

From the 1950's through the 1990's the Oscar's were always about beauty, pageantry and a certain degree of class. One of the biggest TV spectacles showcasing the rich, famous and refined. Over the past two decades the Oscar's have devolved into a total s**t show. Will Smith should have been escorted into the lobby and arrested by security. If they didn't want to create a scene they should gone to his home the next day and arrested him. To do nothing sends the wrong message to society, especially battered women.

I did bring up race, because Chris Rock is being treated differently because Will Smith is African American. Why should Chris Rock be treated differently because Will Smith is African American? You can argue over the severity of it, but kids pick up on it, and the cycle repeats. Kareem Abdul Jabbar wrote a pretty good article that touched on it at points. I think he missed a few things, but overall it was a good letter.

Celebrities and the very wealthy getting preferential treatment is nothing new.

The biggest issue for the Oscars IMO is they have no idea how to balance celebrating film with the business of rewarding them. For example - the biggest song of the year is from the film Encanto - so, the Academy makes a great decision in having the cast perform the song, but instead of having everyone on stage singing their part, they have the cast come from the audience, sing the wrong parts, and then only do the first half before turning the rest of the song into a rap by Megan thee Stallion. They also aired this at around 10pm (and my kids were dying to see this). Another ridiculous choice is honoring the Godfather, and they trot out Copppola, De Niro, and Pacino, but only Coppola says anything, and the other two look like mute puppets. And then the honor the '28th Anniversary' of Pulp Fiction winning Best Screenplay? Also - Spiderman is the biggest movie of they year, but not really nominated for anything and instead of getting the three Spidermen together (and maybe more of the extended cast) to do something fun, they do nothing. Instead, we get Tony Hawk, Sean White, and Kelly Slater. And P Diddy introducing the Godfather. And people dancing during the 'In Memorium' segment. Just - lots of issues (including hosts who were funny, but really not seamless). Also, the glamour has been missing, as have the typical 'Oscar' film.

Not to mention he tried to justify it by going the "protective father" route he just played in the movie and is now doubling down and playing the "well my dad abused my mom" card.
This isn't going to end the way he thought it would. He might have had his moment afterwards but public and Hollywood backlash is building.
Jada staying quiet, with the exception of her 2 sentence tweet is also not helping. IMO.
Smith really could have parlayed that joke into a huge amount of support for both he and Jada and for people suffering from Alopecia, he really blew it.
But we all know it wasn't really about that specific joke.

Yeah, could have really embarassed Rock when he received his award, but was all reaction when he saw Jada wasn't happy with the joke (and everyone knows Smith was laughing at first). It was almost like, 'Are you happy Jada? I slapped him. Better?' - Smith has issues. Number one is Jada.

Yep, I don't think she knows or she doesn't care that she is triggering him. I can only imagine the manipulation going on there.

They dug up a video from 2012 of Smith assaulting a reporter on the red carpet.

"Just violence"
Yep as compared to "minority on minority" violence. I'm not the label guy here....you are. It was 2 men and one assaulted the other. Happens in sports, UFC weight ins, reality TV, MTV Music awards with Tommy Lee and Kid Rock. Assault is wrong, nobody is arguing against that or saying Will Smith shouldn't have been cuffed. Your reason is different than mine though as you need it to be about race for some odd reason. Was Jim Evertt arrested after he shoved Jim Rome down? It was justified IMO as Rome was a prick, but Evert wasn't arrested. I guess it was white privilege by your standards?

I don't get the 'race' angle here. Sure, both were minorities, but as noted, it's happened with other rich non-minorities too. What was the race angle when Tyson bit Holyfield's ear? I suspect there's some kind of inductive reasoning at play that goes to a particular political stance, but really don't want this board to turn into Nittany Nation (NNChan).

True enough, I'll let it go. I don't understand the race angle either, makes zero sense to me.

Several things wrong here most importantly the already declining Oscars has turned into The Springer Show.

Apologies good for some not good enough for others.

I'm not totally sure about this but isn't Alopecia a total loss of hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, arms etc. technically bald all over , PSU had a player with this condition totally different look , i think it was Crawford.

I'm sure there are varying degrees of it and yes it was our DE Jack Crawford.

Perhaps. Nowadays, one has to be very careful with comments about other people. Everything is offensive, legit or not.
Agree. Anyone who makes fun of my coffee/ latte addiction.... ;) I think you can relate to what I've been lusting for:

You focus on Will Smith, I focus on the victim, Chris Rock. I can think of many people who if they assaulted Chris Rock, a celebrity, would have elicited a completely different response. Let's pretend it's not racism though, even though it actually is.

Why is Jada being blamed for Will's actions? It's ludicrous, and yes, misogynistic.

Some people are cool with cucking which is fine, to each their own. I'm not shocked you don't know about them, you don't seem to know much about anything on this. Try harder with a bigger spoon or go back to the old site. You fit in so well there.

While I side with Chris Rock on this, I also think roasts are completely different than a regular stand up comedy routine. The entire point of a roast is personal insults.
My post was made in response to someone saying that the "woke" generation couldn't handle a Dean Martin celebrity roast. That is all.

I wish he (Will Smith) tried that sh-t on Dice or Eddie Murphy if they made those comments. Then suppose how this would have played out. Could almost guarantee it would be a non-issue, cause nothing would have occurred.

I don't know why but Chris Rock reminded me of Mike Piazza after Clemens threw the broken bat him. He did nothing. Nothing!! If that was Buddy Harrelson Clemens was dead! You're right Potter, Eddie Murphy in his prime would have kicked his butt on stage! Even Billy Crystal might have thrown a punch or two.

If you’re Chris Rock, are you thinking someone is going to slap you on stage in front of other celebrities and on an international broadcast?

Rock was scared, too scared to make a decent comeback, but his instincts did him well in this instance.

It makes me sick to think people should be scared of making jokes. We need more jokes right now. The world is garbage and laughing at it is one of the only respites.

Might cannot make right in 2022. We've come too far to backslide like this.

And I think therein lies the issue with people lionizing this, especially kids. I just hope any kid that saw this has parents that can explain how wrong his reaction was. Sadly though, seems like more and more parents today don’t even know the difference themselves.

Reports coming out that the Academy asked him to leave after the incident and he refused. Maybe he really does need his award rescinded and he be banned from the Academy. Again, the priveleged get away with so much stuff it is ridiculous.
