The defense specifically. When Sam Howell lights you up like Dak did today, then you worry.

Dak has been doing this for years against the Eagles. They don’t get consistent pressure and play soft coverage. Dak looks all world.
Dak is all world until he’s not. I think the birds played him like they should. No plays over the top, make him work. Just look at the 4rth down almost TD pass and his failed 2 point conversion. He can’t quite be great when it’s needed.

I love the win, but this may be the softest 8-1 team I can recall. The defense needs to be fixed or they won’t have the season they want.

Dallas was playing street pitch and catch all day.
Yet they only scored 23 pts. and lost.

Clearly their defensive strategy and it wasn’t all that effective, save for a couple of red zone gaffes.

Dak had a 115 passer rating and 72.5 QBR. Dallas didn’t lose because of him.

When Sam Howell goes back to back the same way, you start to worry. We are back to the Gannon debate about whether the run D is great because teams can pass at will and don’t bother to run the ball.

With KC, Buffalo, SF and Dallas (again) coming, they need to fix this issue. All of those QBs are better than the guys that have lit them up recently.

Yes. It’s called luck. Plain and simple. I give the Eagles offense credit. They played well against a tough Dallas defense. The Eagles 4 of 4 (I think) red zone offense won the game.

The Dallas non-TD by inches and Dak stepping out by inches weren’t the result of anything the Eagles defense did.

Luck counts and I’m glad the Eagles won. But if their goal this year is a title, this defense needs to improve.

As @Bvillebaron pointed out, the Eagles offense needs to cut out the sloppy play too. Either of those fumbles could have sunk them today.

The Birds don't seem to dominate like they did last season. But they are 8-1, so they have to be doing more than a few things right.

Dallas scored 6 points in the 2nd half (1 TD, and they failed on the 2-point conversion). By contrast, the Birds scored 14 points in the 2nd half.

But red zone gaffes, coming up small at the worst moments, is Dak.

Any update on Goedert? I’m hoping no news is good news since they had x-rays right in the locker room. A break would have leaked fast.

ugh. this is not good news. When he went right to the locker room, I had my suspicions that the injury was serious

Damn. That’s quite a blow. Goedert being injured is becoming a consistent thing now. I hope for his sake it’s a 4 week thing and not a season ender.

it was a shoulder issue, I think, last season, and he was missed as both a receiver and as a blocker.

The FOX commentators sound like Cowboys cheerleaders. Had them muted much of the time.
Sure hope they’re not too disappointed with their world seemingly upside down.IMG_0650.jpeg

So there’s no super sure short pass Play in the books vs a stacked box on 2nd and 8 when the other team has 3 time outs?
Think back to the Jets game when Eagles had the lead and threw it away. I’m sure they were.

Fourth Quarter
  • With the Eagles driving, Jalen Hurts threw another interception, this time to Bryce Hall. Once again, Jermaine Johnson was there to disrupt the passer. Luckily, the Jets went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, one that was started by a Josh Sweat sack.
  • Another scoreless drive for the Eagles' offense. Elliott missed his 37-yard field goal wide right. Hurts and Brown made another outstanding connection for 36 yards, but it did not pay off.
  • SACK! Reddick and Milton Williams made the biggest sack of the game. They took down Wilson for a loss of 6 yards.
  • On the first play out of the two-minute warning, Hurts was intercepted by Tony Adams, who returned the ball to the Philadelphia 8-yard line. On the next play, Breece Hall ran into the end zone for the go-ahead score. (Jets 20 - Eagles 14)
  • "I did not do my job and I did not make the correct read on the play," Hurts said of the final turnover. "But it happens. It is an opportunity to learn and grow from it."

The Eagles are terrible when a team has a third and long - they go soft and it seems always give up a long pass play - drives me nuts but they won and that's all that matters.

Hurts not being as big a threat to run as last year has made the O a bit less dynamic and more predictable.
