Shocker - doing nothing is better than this $700,000,000 boondoggle. Now if you want an actual fundraising campaign that can pay for it, great. As is you're just diverting resources away from Franklin's program and taking away part of his recruiting pitch. Let's not even pretend this won't have an effect on how the white outs look on tv, yet another marketing hit. But, but, spending...

Isn’t the idea to spend the money before NIL kills off college football for good?

The white outs against our best matchups like Michigan and tOSU are done with the new FOX Big Noon deal so the pretending is in your head. WVU might be our only true night game at home this season.

FOX doesn’t have first choice every week, CBS and NBC will each get their share (though FOX will reportedly have the most weeks of having the top choice). We’ll have our share of 3:30 and 7:30 home games each season.

College football is done for good my friend. Sad, two best sports, hoops and football and we screwed them up
I recall the same sentiment when MLB initiated free agency. Too much $$$$ to fail. Change...not for the better...but it will go on.

For 2023, FOX gets to choose the 3 weeks they want 1st pick.

And, looking at the B1G schedule, it's a virtual guarantee they'll take Weeks 8, 11 and 13.

Michigan (and @ Ohio State) are very likely to be Noon games.

Fox is running the show on this TV contract. CBS and NBC are getting the scraps.

That’s not really a correct characterization. FOX does get some priority but sources I trust indicate that CBS and NBC will get first choice at least 1/4 of the weeks each (maybe not in 2023 for CBS since they will carry fewer games but at least for 2024 and beyond).

edit: I’ll also note that unlike the previous deal, FOX does not get all the conference championship games - CBS and NBC get some of them each.

How is spending $700,000,000 for comfy seats and nice bathrooms for people who don't play, coach, or recruit going to win a single game? Do you think the players give a crap about the stadium seats?

"Come play for us- our fans get to use great bathrooms."
Players? Maybe since their families are sitting in them. Fans? Absolutely since they are paying for season tickets, seat licensing, donation points to improve their seats....but we could always just put some lawn chairs in a field and play there....as Pat Kraft stated Beaver Stadium is an identity for PSU....and apperance matters to the players.

If someone said something supposedly happened it must be true. No need for verification or context...burn it down.
I really like James and I'm not a fair weather supporter either. However, it matters very little to me if there are hard feelings between he and Jay. Most coaches understand that they are unlikely to enjoy universal acclaim.
For all those who wish to crucify Jay for allegedly snubbing Coach Franklin...just tune in here after the first loss of the season. LOL
Who says there’s going to be one?

So when that happens 10 years from now the costs will be 3 billion for a renovation or a new stadium for 4 billion.

You're logic is exactly how gov't deals with infrastructure. Let it get to that point where it's unsafe or undesirable then start crying that you don't know how this could happen and scramble for money.

You know the game.

Except the full $700mm is not to make the stadium structurally and mechanically sound. The amount over and above that is intended to generate revenue and should be economically justified. Typically one element of that is increased ticket prices (in various shapes and forms). How do you think the folks who sit in the East side will feel about that?

So the equivalent to road taxes would be what? A proper fundraising campaign? Your whole analogy is another complete non sequitur. Nobody in the university has ever stated the stadium is structurally unsafe.

We know that price tag is an imaginary number. What does $70mm get you for now?

Given their voting history, lack of knowledge of the NIL, continuing to divert funds away from the football program, etc I think they are pretty much morons and not exactly trustworthy or believable. Still, they are more credible and intelligent than you, and we all know how high that bar is.
The board has never voted down a football request. Not sure where the diverting of funds idea comes from.

Example of let go to 💩 then pay tens of millions for a complete rebuild on a small AAA stadium 10 years ago. It would cost $150mm + today.

You're the guy that's saying let it go it's fine then when it's not and PSU asks for gov't money your going to lose your mind and scream against it. Textbook.

Franklin has complained he doesn't get enough funds for coaching salaries, NIL, facilities, etc. Meanwhile the board, including Short, have been raiding the AD budget for things like museums.

This is mind boggling stupid. Why would anyone pay to keep a damn minor league professional team? You complain roads get neglected, well here's your damn funds and resources for them. But you don't realize that.

Supported it? Short led the charge in the Finance Committee - calling it a brilliant example of "financial engineering" on the part of Eric Barron - I kid you not, you can look it up.

THAT was the only time in recent memory (TTBOMK) the Board actually voted on something that "took money away from" athletics.

Lubrano, on the other hand - actually voted "against".

The full Board ended up approving it 26-7.

Amazing how the facts are so often 180 degrees opposite of some folks' "my truth" - and how little the facts matter.

Not for the games that matter.

And the other vote that people bring up in regards to “taking away” funds from football happened at a unique time recent history. People will cite the vote but not the reasons behind the vote.

Yep

Or, gee whiz, the fact that even then, the spending proposal for Lasch went through anyway - by an overwhelming majority.
But, I suppose, I must be missing the meaningful detrimental impact to "football" that occurred by having the proposal pass 30-6 as opposed to 36-0.
