While I’d rather have Diaz with us for another year, I do not understand the surprised reactions by some that he’s looking for HC jobs. When he was hired by PSU, it was commonly speculated that Manny would probably be around for about two seasons while he’s rehabilitated back into a desired HC.

I don't think anyone is surprised by Diaz looking at and being considered for HC jobs - personally, I expected him to be a hot commodity this off season and would have guessed for him to go someplace more like Texas A&M with the requisite salary to match than the likes or Duke or JMU.

Now part of that is that not that many bigger programs have openings (yet?)

Whether he stays or goes, I think one of the legit concerns about Franklin is the retention rate at coordinator spot. I realize these aren't the Paterno days, but it's hard to have consistent performance and complementary football when every season or two you're breaking in a new coordinator. Sure hope Manny stays, breaking in two new coordinators won't be easy.
Nick Saban laughs at losing coordinators.

I was hoping that Poindexter would take over for Manny when Manny gets a HC position

I can't imagine Diaz leaving PSU DC to be HC at JMU. Heck, he probably wouldn't even be making more there. Cignetti was only making like $700K there.
If Diaz interviewed for the JMU job, then he is clearly looking to leave PSU. JMU, seriously? what a crap school.

I understand the Duke head coach job, but he’s not going to be able to recruit or attract the types of players he wants which is a big handicap at Duke.

Maybe Diaz sees the number of PSU defensive players leaving for the NFL as a concern and could be facing a rebuilding season in 2024.

Thank you dcf4,
That should make USC a competitive team.
Time will tell. Although, I’m not so sure it was a coaching problem as much of a lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball for USC. I have heard some recruiting guys saying that there is a lack of quality defensive line players on the west coast and in order to improve the DL, USC may have to rely on the portal heavily or the defense could continue to be down the next few years. We will see.

Hempfield PA, DT Deyvid Palepale was a PSU lean then commited to USC now considering UM for what it’s worth about building defensive talent . IIRC five star kid but had plantar fasciitis and might have dogged it his senior year . He and the coach has a fall out which spilled into social media .

FTR, James Madison would likely be favored over Duke on a neutral field right now.
Some other schools that they would likely be favored over - South Carolina, Pitt, Cincy, Purdue, Memphis, Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan State, Baylor, BC, Syracuse

I have heard he is pretty good but he was never a 5 star rated player that I can remember. However, if he had plantar fasciitis, then he should get the benefit of the doubt. If you’ve never had it…don’t. I can’t imagine wearing cleats with it.

what?

I live in the Triangle and its a very friendly place. Been here 25 years.

I was down there on business about five years ago, and I was nearly always greeted with, “Go f*ck yourself.”
