Have you attended a World Series game? I was going to add in person but that would be redundant although in many cases announced attendance figures are the amount of tickets sold and not those in actual attendance as it should be. But I digress.

I have not and it's a giant vacuum on my sports bucket resume and being a Pirates fan it may be a hopeless cause which may lead me to go to Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland or Philadelphia one day if I ever hope to attend a World Series game.

So what WS games have you been to?

Yes... 2018 Red Sox game in Fenway and 2020 when they bubbled at Texas Rangers stadium.

However, when I was 10 back in fall of 1975 my Dad told me he had 2 tickets to a Red Sox playoff game and 2 tickets to upcoming ND/BC football game. I was oldest son so I got to choose. I chose poorly and my 7 year old brother got to attend the 6th game of the 1975 WS, the Fisk homerun game.

Source of contention with my wife. 1998, Yankees vs Padres. I get an invitation. All expenses paid for game 1. I’ve been a Yankee fan for as long as I can remember. I also have season tix at PSU and we play Drew Brees and Purdue the same night. I can’t let my Penn State tickets go to waste. I go to the PSU game.

My wife’s favorite player, Tino Martinez hits a grand slam that night. They go on to sweep. Wife is mad at me for a week every October since. She thinks I’m a complete idiot for giving up a World Series ticket to attend one of about 150 PSU games I would eventually attend. I have to agree with her.

Never. I did go to a Yankees playoff game (‘96 maybe?). I was at Reggie Jackson’s 400th HR game. Orlando Cepeda was coaching with the White Sox and spotted my father outside the stadium before the game. They were teammates in the minor leagues so he invited my father to come in with him. My father leaves me and my sister with my aunt and cousins. My father then finds his way up to the Yankees broadcast booth to talk to Bill White (or friend and former teammate of his brother, my uncle) and also hangs out with the Yankees traveling secretary at the time (pre-Costanza), who was his best friend growing up. 9th inning, my father shows back up at our seats hammered. Seems like a good time was had by all!

Yes. 2008 Phillies vs Rays game 5. The continuation game over two evenings which was the eventual series winner. Got to go to evening #1 with my Dad and evening #2 with my brother since my Dad had to wake up early for work.

Back in the day, a buddy of mine and me were pretty heavy into sports memorabilia. Set up at big shows for a number of years and we had a lot of treasures pass through our hands during that time.

It was hard to get us really excited given what we bought sold and traded over that time.

But a friend of ours pulled out an item from his personal collection one day. The story was just as cool as the item. He said his dad was given great tix and when he went to the game at Fenway the whole row in front of him was empty as game time approached. All of a sudden, a bunch of suits came in and swept the row and the people around the row. There was a buzz and then my buddy realized why.

The suits were Secret Service and the people who sat directly in front of him and his dad was Bobby, Teddy, and Rose Kennedy. He had them all sign his program and he still had it. I wanted that program bad, never got it though. Wonder where it is today.

I've told this story before so I will try to shorten it. My family started getting Pirate season tickets (4) in 1958. I was 11 years old in 1960 and my parents said I could go to 2 of 4 possible home games. The Bucs won game 1 but I picked game 2 which they lost 16-3. The next 3 were in New York and the Pirates won two. They came home up 3 games to 2. My Mom tells me you can go to game 6 or a possible game 7. Of course I take game 6 which the Bucs lost 12-0. I have now seen 2 games that the Pirates have lost by a combined score of 28-3. I might mention my favorite player at age 11 was Bill Mazeroski. I go to school for game 7 (no night games in those days). My Mom goes to the game. The Pirates come up in the 9th with the score tied 9-9. The first batter up was #9, Bill Mazeroski. Score tied 9-9 and #9 at bat. My Mom was deeply religious but was a heavy smoker despite all efforts by my Dad and me to get her to stop. She says a prayer and promises God that if the Pirates win the game she will never smoke another cigarette. My hero, Bill Mazeroski, sends the second pitch of Ralph Terry over the left center field wall and the Bucs win a classic. I miss the greatest moment in my hero's career, but it was worth it. My Mom kept her promise to God. She never smoked again.

My highest level in each sport: NHL, Stanley Cup round 2 (was at the clincher when the Jackets took out Tampa in 4) and ASG; baseball, Game 1 NLDS Cards at Phils 2011, ASG in CIncy; football, 1994 Rose Bowl plus the odd Iggles game (no playoffs); European soccer, Champions Cup semifinal (5 DM tickets!) in 1978 Liverpool at Gladbach in Duesseldorf; World Cup, 1994 second round; MLS, three MLS Cup games and ASG; NBA, nothing, except a Sixers loss during the 9-73 season.

My dad promised to take me to the WS in 1964.... Oh well. We used some of the inheritance to go to that 2011 game, the night before my parent's memorial service in Manayunk. He owed me!

I have attended Phillies World Series games in ‘80, ‘83, ‘93 & ‘08. I was at both games in the split game in ‘08. I also attended the all-Star game. I have played softball at the Vet. I have played poker in a deluxe box in January.

I missed th '79 WS. Other than that I have perfect attendance for the Pirates WS appearances during my lifetime.
I have been to SCF game 2 (Pens win), a SB (Steelers loss) and B1G championship game (PSU win).
Well, this doesn't answer my question. New question; which ones have you attended?

Well, it kind of answers your question...
...none of them. As a suffering Pirates fan (I've actually stopped caring about them) I never attended or wanted to attend a WS. I will not watch/ listen a MLB game until the Pirates have 3 wins in the WS. I'll tune in then.

No World Series for me either. Highest I've gotten was ALDS Games 3 & 4 A's-Twins in 2002.

But I have been to two NCAA Basketball Championship games and Game 7 of Calgary-Tampa in 2004.

I think the only way I'd go to a World Series game is if I happened to work it for media, someone got me a pretty cheap ticket, or my team was playing in it.

Saw the Mexicans win the Little League World Series for the first time in 1957.

Was living with my grandfather about a six block walk to the field…..my Dad was serving in the Air Force in Iceland and Germany.

We also walked to many Phillies games at Bowman Field that summer…..

A lifelong Phillies fan, I managed to cop a ticket to Game 2 of the '83 Phillies/Orioles Series when I was living in Bawlmer. Look at that price $25 for a lower reserved seat ticket !!

Odd thing is that I always remembered it as being Game 1 which was the only game the Phillies won. But the ticket does not lie. Strange how the mind can play tricks on you.

Remember it as if it occurred yesterday.

Final game, 1978 World Series, in the Bronx, sitting in right field with two college roommates ( one, a huge Yankees fan from Northern Jersey ) We had driven up from Washington DC earlier in the day, we were GWU students. Beers, weed, and enough cash to buy scalped tickets from a buddy of my one roommate. We also bought hot dogs and if memory serves Tgar correctly, Utica Club beers.

Robert Merrill from the Metropolitan Opera sang the National Anthem.

7th inning, Reggie Jackson drives a big one into the right field grandstands near where we were sitting. Pandemonium, just crazy. We stayed for the entire game, watched the police officers on horseback ring the field etc.

Tgar was not driving and was dozing in and out of consciousness briefly on the drive home. He opened his eyes up suddenly to realize Fran, who was driving, was drifting across several lanes on the NJT or whatever road we were on and Tgar screamed, so did Gary in the back seat. Fran came to immediately. Everyone had an Adrenalin rush from that scare and stayed awake for the rest of the drive back to DC. It was probably 5 am when we parked and crawled out of the car.

Oh to be young.

I did use that method (media) to see one of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and the NCAA Men's Gymnastics final--as a Penn State volunteer photographer in Columbus, where I live. Surprisingly, it's hard work, physically.

I was very lucky - I had gone to all the home playoff games for the nationals in 2019 (wild card vs brewers) and 2 vs dodgers and 2 vs cardinals. Those games were all pretty inexpensive. Bc DC is an event town the World Series tickets were crazy. In fact Fri and Saturday - games 3 and 4 after the nats won the first 2 in Houston - were $1300 lowest price. In what was very good fortune we were in Myrtle beach for the weekend for my son’s baseball team and we weren’t in town as nationals lost all 3 home games. (I suspect I would have ponied up for one game).

I told my wife that if there is a game 7 we are going. Late in game 6 we booked the flights. Had pretty good seats - 400 level but front row. For the final 2 innings we were able to stand behind the nats dugout and were getting texts from people who saw us on tv. It was pretty amazing and the cost including flights and hotel was about 2k.

craziest part - not many nats fans were in town. We went to the 4 seasons where the nats were staying and hung out with a handful of nats fans, the team and the tv folks until 5 am. Sotos dad gave me some of his chicken wings…it was a pretty incredible experience…got tons of pix with the team…
