Hey Franklin haters, is a playoff game a big game? Win or go home. Elimination. Season ends.

I'm not a "Franklin hater" and I think this was a big game (win or elimination) but I don't think SMU was very good. The game felt like a September game against a weak OOC opponent (except for the 22 degree part).
The ACC is Charmin soft then and only deserved to get 1 team in.

To answer the question, yes it was a big win. Too many people liked SMU today. Actually, it seems like there was more respect for SMU versus the initial respect for Boise. The line was smaller for SMU at home v the line on a neutral field against Boise.

I think the boys can beat anyone on their side of the bracket. They can get beat but they can also get to the final game.

Why *****, sit back and enjoy the ride for however long it goes. Franklin and the team deserve support versus the alternative.

I kinda do….if people would stop posting negatively about Franklin nonstop, this post and others like it wouldn’t be necessary….do you follow?
So, this post is going to stop them? More likely that it will inspire them to come harder after the next loss. It's a non-stop cycle of taunts between the two groups of children that just annoys the adults on the board.

Beating SMU is like beating Maryland. Nice team but hardly worth bragging about. Franklin has never beaten a good team.

And the Pitt troll shows up.
The dude is clearly a little troll. Bottom line is PSU has a group of fans who take the field over Franklin, but want to act like he's a bad coach. Taking the field over him is just an easy out. It's basically MNC or bust for him and the program which means somehow he's doing a bad job when that is the only options....it's just f--king stupid at this point in time. If PSU does somehow beat Boise that means they finished the year #4 and then still made it to the semi's while navigating 2 playoff games. IF that occurs as it's a given they will move that line yet again. Short on a MNC, they will say this year is a failure.

Well said. And they feel there are so many coaches out there doing better, but I don’t see them.

I would love to have a limited-dimensional badge system in here. Each badge would define an alignment of a poster on a dimension of their personality, fandom, beliefs, etc, so they wouldn’t feel the need (have the right?) to express them in each post. If followed, the conversations could be much smoother, less hostile, and on-topic.

For example I’d have the “neutral” political badge, a “wait and see, I don’t expect us to win CFB championships” expectations badge, a “CFB championships don’t make me a better person so $20k/year to NIL isn’t in the cards” NIL stance badge, and “my whole house isn’t decked in blue & white” spirit badge.

I told some people at the game that since PSU won by so much everyone would say "SMIU, wasnt that good and it wasn't a big win for CJF". I'm calling BS, it was a big win for CJF. We might be the only team in college football that has won 100% of their playoff games.

That’s a bit of revisionist history regarding the Franklin era. An MNC has always been where the goal post is. Franklin never delivered a playoff birth, let alone aMNC appearance. Consolation prizes had to be found for keeping him. Try to set the goal as winning the BIG. But we only ever won one under his tenure. So the goal post got moved again to beat OSU and Michigan, the two big dogs. He started to struggle with Michigan and OSU owns him. The folks who always had the MNC as the goal said enough, stop lowering the bar for him.

As for this season, we didn’t play Michigan and lost again to OSU. we then backed into the BIG championship. Didn’t win it, but at least we got there after years of frustration. Expanded playoff means the OSU loss and BIG loss didn’t mean as much, so we caught a break by still getting in. We got handed what, on paper, looks like the easiest path for a deep playoff run: two teams who we out recruit every year and we play one at home and one on a neutral field. The goal has always been the MNC, and I want to hold this guy to that standard now that he has FINALLY gotten within sniffing distance of achieving one.

Since we've won all of two in well over 100 years, sure- why not demand that that is our "standard"?

I am as disappointed as the next person regarding the "big game" results over the years. But I think it can be fairly said that PSU performs at the level its roster and resources allow. We are better in both aspects than most, but not at the level of tOSU, Oregon, Ala. and Georgia. It will take special circumstances to beat those teams on the field. All you had to do was watch tOSU last night to see the difference.

Isn’t Alabama sitting at home with three losses? How did that happen?
