I am driving 3 miles to my mother's house. She is having 22 people, and this will probably be the last one she hosts. She wants to move to assisted living next year (she is 83). She just lost her brother, and her remaining sister (out of a family of 10 kids) lives outside the US and isn't able to make the trip home. By this time next year, a lot will probably have changed with the family dynamic.

Yeah.....enjoy these moments with your family. Never take these for granted.

My siblings and I were having a texting conversation regarding the Thanksgiving snowstorm of 1971. Anyone recall this? We were driving from NW Ohio to Rebersburg and on our climb of the Madisonburg Mountain we got stuck. Sealtest milk truck pulled us up and over around 3:00 am.

Yeah, it’s always rough to be the last of the siblings. Note to self: be extra nice to your Aunt Mary today. She graduated Saint Mary’s in South Bend; it will be nice to see her trash talk my daughter, who graduated USC. Mary used to be CEO of St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno and would see the ND-USC game every time it was played in LA.

I remember a couple of big storms in Southwest PA, Somerset county.
The one I remember most of as 1974 and started Thanksgiving weekend. Started off as freezing rain and then thunder snow.
I know my sister had to call Penn State to tell them she couldn’t get back in time. I guess it was for spring Registration. We had no power for a week and the turnpike was closed. Although closing the PA pike from Donnegal to Breezewood happens a lot.
I also remeber many a snowy rides back to Stare college over Cresson Mt and Ebensburgh on Rt 22.

Flew back to PA yesterday from FL and I am freezing ... Will be ready for sun and warmth again by saturday

your timing (or the holiday's timing) was pretty poor. The fall was unusually warm, and unusually dry. Yesterday, while having rain in the am, got up to the low 60s. Alas, it's downhill from there. Today's high is the low 50s, and Thanksgiving is the same temp, but rain. Friday's high will be the mid 40s, and Sat and Sun won't get out of the 30s. Alas, it appears that will be the norm for awhile, as the long-term forecast shows the highs either upper 30s or very low 40s for at least a week.

With all the years you lived in this region, and all your hours on the ski slope, I'd think either your blood could adjust, or you would remember how to dress for non-FL weather. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Enjoy your holiday.

Just finished what I am referring to as Fakesgiving (have to go to Cinci tomorrow for actual Thanksgiving and mother in-law’s 80th birthday). It was a fury of cooking on three different surfaces while eating what I was making and drinking Guinness with 3 of my 4 daughters home and 1 of my brothers and 2 of my sisters over. I love doing it every year! Now I’m ready for a nap (and more Guinness!!!)!

If you are among the fortunate individuals who still have parents to visit and a spouse to travel with you, savor the blessing.
Hope you can find one or two cool people to hang with. I would hang with you-I always admire your outlook and stance whenever you post. Hope your holiday turns out super and keep up the good work.

I have gone through life on scholarship...a quote I borrow from Paul Hornung. I met my future wife at age 12 and knew she was the one. She was very pretty and popular, so it took me 10 years to win her over. I loved football and I coached with enough success that it allowed me to draw a check as recently as yesterday as I continue to work in athletics ( my 52nd) years. A below average player, yet every penny I've ever earned can be traced to football. My wife gave me two wonderful sons and I finally have a beautiful 1 year old granddaughter.
On a sad note I lost my wife to cancer 15 years ago and Thanksgiving can be difficult because my mother passed away on Thanksgiving Day 30 years ago. Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes. As we age, there are far too many goodbyes.
We have a nice community here, a family of sorts. We have different perspectives and hence our opinions can clash. But I've always been impressed by the way everyone can put that aside and express heartfelt compassion for another.
Nothing is forever. You don't need a holiday to treat your loved ones special.
Thank you so much for your kind words.

My FL blood is so thin, I usually only go home to play WCC in the summer or fall for a PSU game. Maybe this Christmas though.

Did you know the Robb family?
Earl and Myrtle.
He was a teacher and summer rec director. I think I may still have a Rebersburg Rec t-shirt with a soapbox-type car on the front.
I don't recall that name. I left Brush Valley in 1960 so maybe they were after that time.
