Finally due to this HC pushing the program forward and being fought every step of the way by the school and portion of their fan base still stuck in 1986. Thankfully Kraft and those not fighting the HC got past the roadblocks that are up in there. The ones complaining today or about this hire all seem to want this HC gone....odd how that works.
Not odd at all. Haters gonna hate. Interesting how many posted that there was no way Franklin could hire Knowles since he was generally regarded as the top DC in the country. Right after he does, the same idiots are claiming he really isn’t that good any way.

I said the same thing about NC then a coworker told me if you send your kids to public school there you’ll understand.
Education like Justice usually is based on what you can afford. Every municipality has a variety of schools supposed quality of education. Taxation, income levels, and density of population play a major role.

It’s weird going after the top DC in the country given we’ve never really been an elite program according to many here. Consider me skeptical.
Even weirder was Franklin arguing it was facilities was the reason we couldn't win a Natty, who have thought it was a DC?

I'm not complaining, we'll see if this is an upgrade over Allen (Hopefully so) but no denying the "woe is me" we can't compete with the big boy's excuse is out the window.
It only took a decade of infighting from the inside to get there. Sadly there are still people trying to work against JF and Kraft. There is still work to be done, but this was clearly a big step for Kraft and JF. Hopefully we now see this translate over in recruiting to a top 5 class or two in the next few years.

I hope the Clemson troll who was busting our balls on PSU and losing Allen, chokes and blows coffee out his nose after reading the Knowles to PSU news.

I believe Knowles will make about double at PSU what clempson will pay Allen ($3.1 MM vs. $1.6 MM).

Allen at PSU in 2024: $1.2 MM

Knowles at PSU in 2025: $3.1 MM

Are those numbers correct?

About that. Clemson troll was calling us a mid and poorly funded program. With that attitude, he might fit in here if he toughened up.

Let's be honest. If you consider yourself a PSU football fan and you didn't enjoy a year where the team made it to the semifinals......the odds are you will be unhappy virtually every season.
That's what you are up against!
This. Was a great year. Would it have been nice to win a Natty? Of course. Being one of final four is damn good though.

Money talks. It’s refreshing to see T™️osu play the role of bullsh|t for a change.

Not really, it’s all of the above. Championship level programs invest in their staff, facilities, NIL, etc. PSU football is finally shaking off the cobwebs of operating like a thrift store for years. It’s great to see.

Exciting to see the AD and President of the University finally getting it.

Tom Allen will make $1.9 MM in 2025, $2.0 MM in 2026, and $2.1 MM in 2027 at Clemson.

I'm one of those that wants to see the results on the field. Yeah, it's great you can pull in this mastermind and that funds are being appropriated to making this team better. But will that mastermind be able to improve the tackling? How about finding linebackers who can cover backs and tight ends in space? Will we have the personnel to play a tight man style and not sit in a soft zone and let receivers like Tez Johnson own the middle of the field? There is plenty of chatter online that this hire puts PSU over the top and that it's the beginning of the next dynasty. Well, ok, great, but if November 1 goes sideways in Columbus like it often does, is everyone going to lose their minds like OSU fans do when they lose to Michigan? I just think there needs to be a proper perspective to all this. AK was a great hire and changed a lot of the narratives about our offense but his schemes still couldn't score a TD vs Ohio State and it couldn't get any WRs open for one solitary catch in the semifinal game. There's more layers than just hiring a great coordinator.

FWIW Knowles shut down AK'S offense when AK was at Kansas and Knowles was at Oklahoma State in multiple years.

I wouldn't use the phrase "puts us over the top". I would go with "give us more of an edge". For example, I would hope that a better DC would have been able to adjust coverage and limit Tez Johnson after seeing him torch our D in 1H. IMO, winning big football games is about finding those few small edges in a game that increase your %chance of winning.

If you want to talk more layers. How about weakening your main conference competition by taking their DC who knows their players and offensive schemes for next time we play them. And maybe boosting recruiting and/or getting an OSU transfer or two?

I can see the interview now:

Interviewer: Jim, aside from the offer to make you the highest-paid defensive coordinator in “college” football (😞), what attracted you to Penn State?

Knowles: The lack of pressure. They don’t actually expect to win like in columbus, so it will be nice to have a stress-free job for a change.

😞
Are we being bamboozled again?
