It's been like a Rocky fight, a lot of back and forth shots. Hopefully we can hit hard, AND wrap the arms moving forward.

me too, though suspect if he smells success he’ll get offers and leave.
I think anytime you have a successful coordinator, you're at risk of losing him. If you're not one of the big boys, you may lose him to one of them. If you are one of the big boys, programs looking for a HC will come calling. If you want to have a coordinator in place for a long time, hire an aging veteran (Don Brown, anyone?) or shoot for a guy who is going to be good, but not good enough to have other opportunities.

Less than one day after Texas gave up 550 yards on the ground to BYU in a 40-21 loss, Longhorns defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is out of a job. Head coach Mack Brown announced Sunday in a statement that Diaz had been removed in just his third year on the job.

"Our performance on defense last night was unacceptable, and we need to change that." Brown said.

I’m sure it was all just a misunderstanding.

If Clemson had hired Diaz, posters here would be saying "why can't Franklin get a guy like that?"
U are probably Correct most likely 100% correct.....difference is Dabo has been very successful and gets the benefit of the doubt...

And Clemson didn't hire him, neither did Venables at Oklahoma (PSU fans will love that hire).

Great hire , JF probably had Knowles atop his list but went to Ohio St. With the need for a LB coach Manny fits the bill.

I was thinking Mason at Auburn but his strength is the secondary , with Dex and Smith we're established there already. Elijah Robinson great recruiter but as a DC that' a big gamble.

Well it is something we are used to. People forget under Pry we lost 4th quarter leads in huge games multiple times making the QBs look like the second coming or Joe Montana down the stretch.
I don't know a lot about Diaz. Has he not surrendered 4th quarter leads? Does he make opposing QBs look more like Joe Mantegna?
The alums I've met are pretty smart. Their non-alum fans never seem to be sharpest knives in the drawer.

However, there are so few of them the collective stupid level isn't high :ROFLMAO:
Wasn't there a Miami guy who found his way to this board a couple of years back? I can't recall his handle

The question for this board is if not Manny, who ? There has been an unusual amount of DC's hired as HC's this year. The other issue is going from DC to DC , not going to see it. I see it as a refresh for Manny with collaboration with Dex.

No way they’re letting Mason get out of Auburn after their defensive performance against Alabama.

Soft coach, bad recruiter. What could go wrong?

even if he does well, he will be here 2 years tops.

Who is this hard coach, good recruiter that will stay 3-5 that you desire?

Nobody on this board had ever heard of Knowles until 3 weeks ago.

Robinson is a great recruiter, but zero experience as a DC.

This is a Saban like move. Get the most out of him and if he draws interest enough to leave, that probably means we have a great defense in '22.

If not, we probably move on in 1 year a la Kirk C.
