Don’t even try to put this on Franklin. Allar stunk the joint out. He missed so many throws it’s not funny.
It’s a cultural issue. And that goes back to the head coach. This program is a front runner who beats the crap out of outmatched teams. Methodically. But systematically fails in big moments against evenly matched opponents. Always.

James doesn’t make Allar miss an easy TD or throw an awful int with 40 secs left. But it’s the culture and long time trend that rests with him.

Story of the game: squandered opportunities.

Penn State completely controlled the first half, but the offense is so anemic, they could only manage to put 10 points on the scoreboard.

Penn State gets the ball with 4:30 remaining in the game, putting them firmly in the driver's seat to grind the ball down field and chew clock, and they get held to 3-and-out.

Then, against all probability, the defense pulls the biggest stop of the season out of their butts, and Allar wastes no time in throwing the game away.

A spectacular choke in every sense.

Gang, Penn State has a culture of choking in big games. It’s a disease that you only cure with a change at the top.

It’s time. And I suspect that deep down James feels it too.
Cam Miller was put in position to win...but unfortunately fell down.
Allar was put in a position to have a chance to win in regulation...and threw a terrible pass that ZERO coaches would have advised.

The coaches put PSU players in position to win...Jimmies and Joes unfortunately did not succeed.
Why? Why even attempt that throw? You have the better defense, you have the better offense. Go to overtime and win the game. Terrible decision by the head coach, terrible decision to throw that ball.
No, it was certainly NOT a terrible decision to attempt to win in regulation. They immediately got a first down and the Allar from the USC or Oregon games would have gotten into position to win with a FG. He didn't this time. 🤷‍♂️

Only blame on James for this one is the malpractice that is the state of the WRs. They are absolutely horrible. But that’s about it for this one.

Thoughts

- Great season, one of the last 4 standing
- This is the least effective group of WR I can remember since 03-04? 0 catches is inexcusable. Heard good things about Tyseer Denmark, but he barely played. Need 2-3 portal guys.
- Allar is not NFL ready.

Because even they couldn’t imagine he’d make such a bad throw.

I’m one to typically point the finger at our coach, but not tonight. Hard to blame this one on Franklin. Yes, he was slow to make adjustments after halftime, but players were the ones who let down in key moments.

I would feel more for these players, but they’re pros now. If you’re cutting multi million dollar deals then play like it. If you’re getting paid millions to coach, then coach like it. Why the f would we not play to our strengths to win this when we got the ball back. Why throw. He panicked. At this juncture, that should not be happening. Something has happened with mental preparedness and toughness. You can have all the physical tools, but if you’re not it mentally, you’re toast.

The computers said this would be a close game. I feel bad for Drew. This was a good season.

I did not feel very good about the one minute offense going down field. I get that the aggression does make sense because you want to set yourself up for a potential game-winning field goal. However, the inconsistency of Drew’s accuracy throughout the night had me wondering (even prior to the interception) if this is what we want to do in this moment. The way we were running the ball would give us a shot in OT. I get being aggressive to go out and win the game, but I was nervous with how Drew was tonight. Unfortunately, I was well within reason feeling that way.

I understand that. But why is that always the case in these games against evenly matched opponents?

What is it about the program that leads to all of these tough luck mistakes? over the span of a decade?

Marques Hagans should be cleaning out his office and heading back to Charlottesville after these last 2 seasons. I wonder what the hell Stubblefield did that earned him his firing because Hagans took the bar and put it through the ground.

Tony Johnson was in that 03-04 mix wasn’t he? Better than anyone we have now I think.

At least we’re still a wrestling and women’s volleyball school.

Now we just need women’s wrestling.

You're wrong. Penn State has a great culture. We have a great history of winning. How old are you?

I'm getting the sense that there is automatic tension between Franklin and whoever is the WR coach. Is it time to move Terry Smith?
