Seen that open in the flat , but SC had to be a freakin hero.
There is no It factor with this team. Where are the leaders. No fire in the eyes. It’s like the coaching staff is just ok with getting 5-6 players into the NFL every year and damn everything else. Elite teams don’t rely on gimmicks, big plays only etc. Look at Georgia and Alabama...fundamentally sound. Penn State is not. We are at the present moment a second tier program.
SC has escaped several sacks and has taken a beating. No one should question his heart, but he’s got accuracy issues.
We weren't necessarily a better team before the opt outs.
Did you really think we would be better with second and third stringers manning the defense?
After years of poor tackling we’re left with 3 options regarding the coaching staff-
1. They don’t recognize the problem.
2. They see it but it’s not a priority.
3. They see it but can’t fix it.
I don’t know which of those choices is better. The excuses and head in the sand approach by both reporters and Sandy regarding holding Franklin’s feet to the fire needs to stop.
Oh no, I knew better than that. This team has been going down hill since the 6th game of the season.
do you think he tells guys to opt out so he has an excuse when losing a bowl game?
Clifford may be a gamer with heart, and may thoroughly prepare, but his decision making and ability to see the entire field and progressions, have this fan hoping that his 2022 role will not be in a starting role, but rather be that of a backup / mentor to the younger QB talent. This represents a significant change of opinion but his performance in the current game seems to support a new perspective. He has heart but that doesn’t completely overcome the ability to make quick effective decisions.
You hope/believe this is a different game if we have all our players. That said, it's same ol', same ol':
- Constantly in 3rd and long.
- Give up big 3rd downs on D.
- Poor tackling.
- Under/overthrown balls from Cliff.
- Can't stop the run.
- Can't run.
Franklin hasn't really boned up any game/clock management calls though, so.....we're improving!
Also, I'm thinking Franklin is our Kirk Ferentz. He's gonna collect a fat check and make a solid run every few years. Franklin recruits better, but results aren't much better.

He and his son just won't a father / son or daughter competition. More than anything, he's just a personality. I like him.

2-6 to close out the season. Good job. Remember when Penn State use to get better as the season went along? Those days are long gone.
The reality here is that PSU probably didn't truly deserve to be in a NY Day Bowl with our 7-5 record and overall lackluster season. So I'm not going to be too distraught by this game. It is just sad to see the same kinds of things happening here (with over a month to prepare) as what happened in most of the games this season.
I sure hope Diaz gets the D tackling better, blitzing at the right times, and getting some big bodies on the D line. Hoping we find a way to get a consistent running game and allow a true QB competition (don't simply put the returning starter back in that spot out of loyalty).

He's got accuracy issues because of his OL.
I get some of the gripe against SC. Perhaps not the vitriol though.
How about furnishing a better OL for this guy? Otherwise, y'all are gonna be bitching out Drew Allar or Pribula down the road.
