Read my post Pookie. Every resident in the peanut gallery was screaming run the damn ball. I merely said I wonder if some plays got checked at the LOS. 13 wins this year and 34 in 3...the coaches don't need anyone's protection. Especially from some of the message board experts like you.
I have, for years. Must.Protect.Coaches.

Absolutely. Not pleased to see how PSU now behaves…but getting used to it (Franklin says the right things but the team is very undisciplined and this manifests itself at the worst times).

it was great to see the team play physically but I think they quickly figured out that Boise was overmatched in trenches.

Shame they insist on being cute. Run Allen until they stop him (they never did, but we insisted on these gimmick plays that don’t work).

Game could have been over early and final like ~ 42-7. But why make things easy, let’s run Drew on a few bootlegs/QB draws and see if he can join Carter in the tent!

On to Miami!
The fumble after we were up 14-0 and recovered their fumble killed our mojo for the rest of the 1st half, and most of the 2nd half. Easily could have been 42-7.

Funny how no one has mentioned the strides he's made. Going from a guy that rarely saw the field to an integral part of this OL. Kudos to him and the staff that never gave up on him....even though he committed elsewhere.
Rucci starting to play like his HS rankings. Great improvement.

Something I noticed last night for the purists. I really enjoyed hearing the Blue Band in the background without the piped in music. I felt like I was watching a game back in the 80’s or 90’s from that respect. I hadn’t really noticed it all that much before last night. Hearing “Fight On State” and some of the older reliables that they play was refreshing.
I second that!

If Drew doesn't pull that back Nick may have broken a loooong one. Instead, a fumble and momentum change. That's the way it goes some times.
I agree, I think it was same play he broke in the 4th Q, May have been another TD and game over at that point.

Happy New Year To All!

1- Technically, I was trying to watch #15’s footwork as much as TV provided that chance. I’ll leave it to the experts on here who know much more than me, but he seemed to NOT be throwing through his throws consistently. Anyone else notice him almost stepping back on his throws?

2- I think there is some learning here and they need to develop a better strategy on blitzes. Allar has been really effective when he has run this year. If he sees it better and runs, I think he had the opportunity to make some big plays with his legs. Whether it’s screens or something else, Boise put some tape out there for others and the Nits must address this.

3- My only complaint is the lack of discipline the boys continue to show. I was totally disappointed in the one personal foul when 33 jacked up the Boise running back from behind. It was senseless and I could not have agreed more to whoever said announcing that you have to respect your opponent and not do that. That was just disappointing to me to see that. You can’t have that especially from a player as good as 33. That has to be addressed and they have to know you just can’t do that regardless of emotion or heat of the moment.

Congrats and thanks to the boys for allowing us to keep watching. It’s been great and looking forward to the Orange.

lol, it certainly would be fun. And if Siobhan were serving, I would probably blindly sign any tab she presented to me. :ROFLMAO:

I actually have pretty close relatives that live closer to the Orange Bowl than where you're located. So I'd have a place to stay.

Alas, my wife is having a medical procedure on the 7th, and as a result I can't be traveling that week.

I hope you're going. If so, have a blast, and lift one for me.
I pray that everything goes well with your wife's procedure and quick healing

Protect them from who exactly? The drywallers/football experts on this board?
As a former general contractor, I object to lumping in drywallers with couch coaches. Drywallers perform an honorable and necessary trade in the construction industry.

Couch coaches do nothing useful at all, unless you find whining to be useful.

Yes, because ONLY those with coaching experience have valid opinions on a football discussion board.
Even those with coaching experience have no valid opinions, only opinions. The only ones that have valid opinions are the ones who are actually getting paid to make those decisions. And having coaching experience does give you a different viewpoint because those who have coached know the realities of what happens throughout a season. Fans think every game should be a perfect exhibition of flawless execution from start to finish….but it doesn’t work that way at any level.

My apologies….drywallers definitely perform a necessary trade.

He struck me as a little small.
They showed a stat where over 1600 of his yards came after contact….i wonder how many he would have had if he was playing against tougher competition every game. He obviously didn’t have a dominant OLine.

To the critics:
PSU never trailed in the game.
Final score 31-14
They beat the spread.
D handled one of the best backs in the county.
O gave us lots of big exciting plays.
Special teams not too shabby.

Enjoy!
Be Happy!
OL was dominant when the playcalling was to their strength.

to be fair to Jeanty there were a few times where two or even three defenders seemingly had him dead to rights and he somehow squeezed through and gained yardage that I didn't think was there, he's a really good back

I would have selected Vanover and Allen but maybe that indicates a balanced attack on both sides of the ball ... or that I know nothing
Think about it... Can't give the MVP to an RB other than Jeanty, which would imply he wasn't the best back on the field and fly in the face of the hype machine.

On D, I also was thinking Vanover til I realized Zackee had that insane fumble recovery too.

So opining that we should be running on 3rd and short when they haven't stopped Kaytron all night, rather than a gadget play, is not a valid opinion because I never coached?

Got it.

Got it.
It seemed as if Kaytron could have had 200 yards rushing last night, its so baffling why Coach K couldn't see that.

It’s as valid an opinion as saying they should have run more gadget plays because if executed properly, it could have been a TD. It’s just that, an opinion. As much as any of us agree or disagree with calls, we won and that’s what matters. I disagreed with a lot of the calls throughout the game as well, but I’m not going to spend all my time on the board trashing the coaches over a game we won.

You don’t read very well, do you? I said none of our opinions are valid, they’re just opinions. A lot of your opinions I would disagree with, but that doesn’t make yours any more valid than mine. And former coaches know there’s a lot more to these decisions than sitting back and criticizing them after the fact. Hindsight coaching is never wrong. Coaching from your couch is the easiest thing in the world to do.

My 2 cents...

  1. We won becasue we just had better players, not the in game coaching
  2. If i see one more effing gimmick play when we are third and one i am going to lose what little is left of my mind
  3. The blindside block by 33 was dumb, but i am willing to guess he was looking for payback after being held on almost every play
  4. Disappointed to see B St better reperesented in the stands than we were
  5. Drew needs to develop a sense of the blitz or he will never progress... i think out playcalling did a poor job not calling plays with a safety valve look (or maybe those looks were there and Drew missed them)
  6. Not sure i like Drew in the RPO look vs traditional drop back, play action
  7. We handed B State many gifts, they just handed us back more... at the end of the day these are 19-22 year olds kids

Apparently this is not a valid observation or reaction. You just don't understand the complexity of the coaching decisions that go into play calling. Plus since you already know the play didn't work it's easy to be right. Ya know? 😜

Some game thoughts. Just my opinions.
Interior defensive line was awesome. Bottled things up and allowed the pursuit to get "hats to the ball."
Really impressed with Vanover. Did a great job setting the edge.
Sutton played a great game until he got silly.
Wheatley and Reed have been terrific in the last 2 games. Thinking the issues in the Oregon game may have scheme.
DeLuca is extremely underrated.
Seemed like Allar was throwing the ball a little high on the intermediate passes. Was it footwork? Throwing off his back foot?
Kotelnicki is an outstandong OC. Just wish sometimes he would adopt the "you can't stop this, so we're going to keep doing it" philosophy.
No doubt in my mind that Singleton and Allen were playing through bumps and bruises midway through the season. They are playing at a higher level at a faster gear lately.
Left side of the offensive line + Dawkins deserves a game ball. Right side wasn't bad either. Wormley had a bad couple of minutes.
I'm sure blitz recognition, blitz pick-up and "hot read" will be a major focus this coming week. Especially if it's Notre Dame.

I'm still in the camp that Austin Jeanty is a terrific collegiate running back who should have won the Heisman.
Underrated stat: he avaraged 1.6 yards after contact last night. It's usually a LOT more than that.

#4... I think the new format presents an attendance dilemma. Most fans don't have the time or dollars to follow the team through multiple rounds of playoffs. Even the home game for some PSU fans involves travel.

I think Boise St fans had honest expectations not to advance, so this was the game to go to.

I think Penn State fans had honest expectations to advance, so a lot have a choice to make...do I spend that dough, or hold out for the Orange Bowl.

What are your thoughts on the offensive play calling? It seemed pretty obvious that running the ball was working well. I have a hard time believing that AK was being dumb or arrogant by passing so much, so there must have been something else going on. Countering defensive adjustments? Working on the pass game since it looked like we were not going to have a problem handling boise? Trying not to over work the backs?
