Curious as to what your favorites are. My father loved the score of “The Third Man.”

Probably Kronos Quartet and Clint Mansell’s score for Aronofsky’s The Fountain’ and Mansell again for ‘Requiem for a Dream’, and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for ‘The Social Network.’

Oh - and every movie Justin Hurwitz scores - this from ‘Babylon.’

I miss the oddly inspirational/aspirational movie songs from the 80’s…

No "Goodfellas"? That's worth a mention just for Memo From Turner and Monkey Man.
"Casino" is also excellent.

Casino is very good.
I would also include Repo Man and Gross Pointe Blank but then thats kind of my wheel house of music.
Gross Pointe Blank is fantastic.
If we're going John Cusack, I'll add High Fidelity.

Choose your Clint movie, but "Good, Bad, and the Ugly" is probably the leader.
"Godfather" hard to argue with.
'"Inception" because it really fit the dreamy vibe.
Not a popular one, but "There Will be Blood" because I dig Johnny Greenwood.
I have the theme from TGTBATU running through my head now.

And to this day I can fire up the Pulp Fiction soundtrack at any time and I’m transported back to my mid-90s self. I would listen to it all the time in those days while working.

For an opening theme that truly sets the mood for a movie, you can't be the Overture to the movie "Gettysburg". Not only does it provides a sweeping grandeur at the beginning, but then it is reprised during Pickett's Charge that really grabs you by the heart strings knowing what is going to happen once the Union army unleashes a pure hell of hot lead and steel against them from Cemetery Ridge.

A bridge to far.

Epic movies on grand scale and these scores do each justice.

star wars
Jaws
Rocky
Etc are classics. I could go on and on.
