Michigan averaged 33 ppg, OSU 32.5 ppg against ranked teams over that same time.
Again, OSU recruits WAY better than us because they spend much more money and Michigan WAS FREAKING CHEATING DURING THAT TIME!!!!! You're pretty dense for a University leader.

Sure, it’s my opinion based on a) how well Franklin recruits (which is better than everyone in the conference save two teams), and b) the serious lack of competition in the B1G after the top two schools. That will change next year with four decent to good quality opponents joining. Joe never recruited as well as Franklin while in the B1G. Franklin should do better (and is mostly).
PSU and UM have been pretty comparable in recruiting rankings over the past few years. JMO, but I think a better offensive coordinator would have made a difference in the Michigan game. If PSU wins that game I believe we are in the conf champ game on tiebreaker.

OSU has ranked higher than both PSU and UM in recruiting the past few years. As I said after the OSU game, put Harrison on PSU and I think we win that game.

Bottom line. I do believe that a better OC could be the difference between 10-2 and 11-1 with a potential playoff berth. Look at the difference Diaz has made. The defense went from really good to absolutely elite.

Pry had good defenses too, and I'd argue Manny has the deepest, most complete, most talented roster from top to bottom we've had with Franklin. But you're probably right - a halfway decent OC/offense and we likely beat Michigan. Defense played well enough to win for sure.

So, who is your choice if JF goes outside the program?

Looking like the Kansas guy....would be quite a catch. He turned down ND and AM last year....and word is PSU is competing with Oklahoma.

Poindexter.

If Franklin doesn’t promote him, AP will be getting better offers elsewhere. 👍 and thus considered outside of the program.

The only reason I don’t think this happens is that Franklin rarely hires people into positions capable of outsmarting him…..admittedly a low threshold

Hence why multiple ex-coordinators are now successfully coaching elsewhere.

I don’t know much about the Kansas guy, but it sounds like he is pretty well respected in the coaching realm and has a track record of success. If that’s the guy, then 👍🏻

boy, you employed some real mental gymnastics to arrive at your conclusion about Poindexter. Kudos for the effort. And, I’m curious who the multiple ex-coordinators are. Ciarocca? Yeah, Rutgers is “successful”. Rahne? He took a HC job. Moorehead? Failed at MSU, decent at Oregon and now HC at MAC school Akron. Donovan? No comment.

I don't agree with this statement at all. Especially when you look at the all-important position of QB

Paul Chryst or David Shaw would be great. Maybe Jason Garrett.

Someone who realizes it is not against the rules for the QB to take a snap from under center.

Well gonna be interesting to see what happens at PSU... Kingsbury rumored to be looking at Houston, Sean Lewis is most likely taking a HC position. Seems to be a lot of smoke around KU OC Kotelnicki, Brady would interest me but I being OC for the buffalo bills I don't think he would step back to OC in college especially when he can get a look as HC in the NFL. Starting to look like Marion or Kotelnicki but who knows JF sometimes pulls people out of nowhere. We also don't know who has contacted JF.

What don't you agree with? I'm using the final team recruiting rankings.
We've been consistently behind Ohio State in recruiting. While they may be "2" and we may be "5", there is a huge difference when you look through the actual recruits. I'll also add that head-to-head, they get more kids than we do. This is especially true when you look at PA kids. Kids we've gotten from Ohio are kids that tOSU didn't want or offered late. I can't think of a single kid we got from Ohio that Ohio State had put the press on. Allar, for example, was far down on their radar and the kids they had already committed were considered better. They only offered him as an insurance policy in case #1 didn't pan out.

Lastly, if you look at tOSU's roster, you'll see a lot of kids from FL, TX and CA. Their national recruiting is far better than ours. We've made good progress in MI and FL. A quick look for the last five years:

  • 2023, PSU 14 tOSU 4
  • 2022: PSU 6 tOSU 4
  • 2021: PSU 21 tOSU 2
  • 2020: PSU 15 tOSU 5
  • 2019: PSU 12 tOSU 14
Average 13.6 vs 5.8

He was talking about recruiting efforts vs. Michigan I believe, which is fairly close.

As @Midnighter said, I was referring to recruiting vs Michigan. Our talent is similar and I believe that game was lost due to a poor offensive game plan and play calling.
OSU is clearly recruiting at a higher level as I said in my post. I think they have been beating us on pure talent and not as much coaching.
The bigger point was that I think PSU could have been 11-1 with a better OC and possibly looking at the playoffs.
